Subang Jaya, March 26, 2005:
The Subang Jaya Municipal Council (MPSJ) has helped identify a site in Bandar Kinrara, Puchong, for the Subang Jaya district police headquarters (IPD) building.
Does that mean MPSJ can now officially hand over the police reserved land in USJ8 to commercial developers to develop the controversial foodcourt?
Deputy Minister of Internal Security Noh Omar was quoted by national news agency Bernama that the Subang Jaya district police will be headquartered in Bandar Kinrara. However, he did not say when construction would start.
It is understood that Dr Kow Cheong Wei, the state assemblyman for Kinrara, has been lobbying hard to have the Subang Jaya IPD located in his constituency. Kow is also a MPSJ councillor.
It is also noted that Lau Yeng Peng, Member of Parliament for Puchong, did not object to Kow\'s plan to locate the IPD in Bandar Kinrara as it is within his parliamentary constituency.
Of late, residents in USJ has been brewing grouses that both the wakil rakyat were conspicuously silent over the local community\'s petition to have the USJ8 police station sooner than later.
3 more police stations in Subang Jaya
Yesyerday, Noh announced that he government has proposed to build three more police stations in Subang Jaya, including the district police headquarters, in efforts to provide better services to some one million residents in the area.
However. Noh did not specify the other two new police stations, nor whether the USJ8 Pondok Polis will be upgraded to a full-fledged balai polis.
He said construction of the three additional police stations was to overcome various shortcomings faced by policemen in the district.
He said his ministry, with the cooperation of MPSJ, had identified a site in Bandar Kinrara, Puchong, for the district police headquarters building.
The projects were among the 160 housing projects and police stations, costing RM1.5 billion, to be built by the government, he told reporters after visiting the temporary district police headquarters in Puchong.
Noh said the existing Subang Jaya district police headquarters was located on a two-storey shophouse leased from the developer. It is learnt the monthly rental is RM24,000.
\"It is the only district police headquarters operating from a rented premises and this has given rise to various shortcomings in terms of logistics, living quarters and personnel,\" he said.
He said the district headquarters also did not have a lock-up and had to rely on three of the eight police stations under the jurisdiction of the district police headquarters.
\"We will also build living quarters for the 933 policemen in the district who have been provided with only 78 houses currently,\" he added.
