SUBANG JAYA: Is the Subang - Bandar Sunway stretch of the New Pantai Expressway (NPE) to open soon?

Street-lamps lining the eastward-side of NPE (see picture), from the pedestrian bridge connecting SS14 and SS15 to Sunway Pyramid were lit up since Friday night, June 22.

A source told The usjXpress Team that the stretch will be open to traffic from Tuesday, June 26.

The source said with the partial opening of the NPE, traffic congestion at the Kewajipan roundabout would be reduced tremendously.

This is because motorists from Subang Jaya heading towards Bandar Sunway could now use the overpass without having to go through the bottlenecked roundabout at Persiaran Kewajipan.

However, as the underpass at the Lebuhraya Damansara-Puchong (LDP) junction would take another 16 months to complete, motorists using the route to access the Federal Highway are advised to put up with traffic backflow especially during peak hours.

The usjXpress Team was informed that traffic policemen would be stationed at the LDP junction between Pusat Bandar Sunway and Mentari Business Park during morning and evening peak hours.

The source said the underpass at the LDP would only be completed in another 16 months.

FAST TRACK

Since taking over the project on May 4, Road Builder (M) Holdings Berhad has resumed construction works feverishly.

Earlier, Road Builder's spokesman Yong Juen Wah told usjXpress Team that the company targetted to complete the 3.2km stretch from Subang Jaya to Bandar Sunway in eight months.

"Our priority is to complete the stretch from the Jengka roundabout to the KL-bound PJS6 area near Taman Desaria," he said at a special briefing for Subang Jaya and Bandar Sunway residents arranged by Subang MP, Tan Sri K.S. Nijhar, May 9.

With the stretch expected to be partially open to traffic this Tuesday, Raod Builders would have taken 6 weeks to complete a critical portion of the expressway that has burdened motorists in the last three years.

However, the underpass at the LDP interchange would require 12 to 18 months to complete due to extensive services involved at the particular spot.

It was learnt that construction was being be carried out concurrently in all approved portions of the expressway which runs from Subang Jaya, Taman Maju Jaya, Pantai Dalam and ends at Jalan Bangsar and Jalan Kuchai Lama

Works on the unapproved portions will start as soon as issues related to the relocation of squatter colonies are resolved.

Sources at Road Builder said the entire expressway, costing RM505 million, will be opened by stages until it is fully completed in 2-and-a-half years' time.

By then, overpass at the Jengka and Kewajipan would be turned into traffic interchanges.

On May 4, Road Builder (M) Holdings Bhd announced it has acquired New Pantai Expressway Sdn Bhd from Berjaya Land Bhd and Dasara Berkat Sdn Bhd for RM210 million cash.
