The list can continue for the next 5 years but I shall summarise them into two - MUST Have and GOOD to have.

A group of us who are active in the community is scheduled to meet the 4 aspiring candidates who are offering themselves to serve in the Subang Jaya and Kinrara state seats and Kelana Jaya and Puchong Parliamentary seats which SJ/USJ falls within. Except for Dato Lee, the incumbent who knows this commnuity like the back of his hand, the other three do not know what they are jumping into. Of the three, only one can be consider a Sinkeh - meaning totally blur blur who we are and what to expect from us. Three including Dato Lee are fortunate that they are MPSJ councillors who should know the issues we are facing here. They cannot plead innocence. Hopefully by midnight tonight, we will know how in the words of Pak Lah, they can work with us and not we work for them. Our wish list is not going to be an unreasonable one and we know who to direct them to - state or federal. So OK folks, here are some fact and figures extracted from the usjXpres file.


Parliament: P104 Kelana Jaya (Total voters: 67,906) - Loh Seng Kok - MCA

State: N30 Subang Jaya (Voters: 34,667 100% from this SJ/USJ community)- Dato Lee Hwa Beng -MCA

Nomination Centre: Petaling Daerah Office (next to Wisma Consplant or Subang Parade)

Parliament: P103 Puchong (Total voters: 58,729) - Mr Lau Yeng Peng - Gerakan

State: N29 Kinrara (Voters: 21,740 of which only 3,606 voters are from USJ 16 - USJ 27 including Kg Tiga voters) - Dr. Kow Cheong Wei - MCA

Nomination Centre: MPSJ Building USJ 5.

All official actions starts from 9am and by 12noon, we will know who are contesting. At this moment we only know that Parlimen Puchong will be contested by Dr Azmi Jamion from PAS. Come to the nomination centres and have fun - shouting and heckling

[... if I am not mistaken, 3 of them were MPSJ councillors. They were part of the team which approved the building of the Millennium Big Bird park. As pcyeoh said, they are responsible for placing big flower pots along the main road not forgetting the fanciful lamp posts and "upside down of Michaelangelo" drawings on the intersections at the 4 corners of Taipan are our least priority.
So, these guys will do the same later if they are elected as MPs or Aduns (with more power)...Bathu]

With Dato Lee Hwa Beng winning the Subang Jaya state seat uncontested (the DAP guy was disqualified), Mr Loh Seng Kok who was the political secretary to ex MCA President Datuk Sri Ling Liong Sik will have a hard time to remind the Subang Jaya folks that they still have to go to the poll to vote for him. And he can afford to fail to turn up yesterday for an important meeting with some 40 of the active members of this community. We were there till 12.20am and could not understand no matter how busy you are, definitely you can spare some time to meet your voters especially when you are a new kid in the block.

Most of us are very impressed over the humilty and the love to serve the people of Dr Kow Cheong Wei. Even his face make him likeable. He is only a councillor in MPSJ and not an ADUN. Yet in that capacity he has been serving his people in Puchong in the MPSJ Council.

Mr Lau Yeng Peng, a councillor in the MPSJ Council and also the Selangor Gerakan Youth leader also showed his humbleness when inspite of being late (he was held up in an earlier appointment) he nevertheless turned up at nearly 12 midnight and apologised profusely for keeping us waiting. Better late than never not if you are going to need the support of your voters. He did not waste time and got down to the business of the day....... or would I say .... night. All three of them attested their signatures on their commitment to work with the residents to resolve community issues.

And now we come to the no show by Loh Seng Kok. Does that mean the no show by Loh means that we are not going to get support from this new MP from Kelana Jaya? With the Subang Jaya folks not needed to vote for their ADUN, many may not be aware that they are still required to vote for their MP. And there are yet others who think going to the poll to vote for one position is not worth their effort. So why not stay at home and spend a lazy Sunday morning in bed.

I was one amongst those folks who waited up during the meeting last friday to meet up with our aspirant YB's.

Frankly, I attended mainly to meet in person these aspirant YB's as 3 of them are new. Most importantly, I wanted to see what they had to offer United Subang Jaya residents over the next 5 years should they be elected.

First up we had our incumbant Dato Lee Hwa Beng. As he is the incumbant, he was very much in tune with the needs of the residents and had agreed to our wish list and signed it without hesitation. Frankly I was quite pleased with that, although I think realistically, as to how much of it will be delivered, well, only time will tell. That is a gamble that all voters would have to take. It has since come to pass that the good YB is going to be our ADUN due to the disqualification of the opposition candidate. To be fair to the man, he has done quite a bit of good for the community, and we look forward to him making good on his "Aku Janji" he signed on friday.

Next, Dr. Kow Cheong Wei, a total stranger to most United Subang Jaya folks. What struck me was the humility of the man. Although he is a councillor at the MPSJ, he admitted to being a little unfamiliar with United Subang Jaya issues, yet with almost puppy dog eyes, the man was full of humility and asked to be given an opportunity to prove himself. Like all politicians, he pointed out the work he has done for Puchong folk and it seemed to me that he was well suited for that constituency. This is one candidate who would get my vote, if not for anything else, at least for his sincerity in wanting to give it his best shot. Alas, if only I could.

Then we have Mr. Lau Yeng Peng, who as it turns out is not only a MPSJ councillor, but also a United Subang Jaya resident himself. Ahhh.... and here is a true blue political animal if I ever saw one. When faced with the "Aku Janji" that we presented him, the man took time to read it and (perhaps it was just me) seemed to hesitate just a smidgen before signing it. Personally, I'm kind of neutral on this candidate, simply because nothing stood out for me. I can only hope that if he is successful in his candidacy, he would make it a priority to get to know his constituents well and help us solve our issues particularly those that would require the Federal government's initiative.

And last up, we have Mr. Loh Seng Kok, the aspirant for the Kelana Jaya Parliamentary seat, which will cover about 80% of United Subang Jaya. Now here is a man who did not show up for the meeting at all and from what has been written in this thread, has not signed the "Aku Janji" either. In fact, I only know what he looks like only from the numerous posters and buntings strung up all over the township. My personal opinion is that I am not impressed by him thus far. The man seems to think that United Subang Jaya is not worth his time, and that he has "other important" matters that better deserve his time. As for the poster of him during the floods (if it were true, as someone had questioned the authenticity in this thread), this would work well if we were still a rubber or palm oil estate in the '50's or '60's. Someone from his party should remind him that this is the 21st century, and United SUbang Jayan's are a savvy lot, although in Dato LHB's own words to his fellow aspirant YB's that night, we are not unreasonable.

All in all, it's too bad that I may not be able to vote this time around as I registered too late. In that sense, maybe I am lucky in that I will get to assess all 4 candidates with a local track record the next time around. In the meantime, to those of you who are eligible to vote, be there at the voting stations this coming Sunday and make your vote count. Be sure to get to the polling stations on time and send these guys a clear message that we are not called United Subang Jaya for nothing !!!

i know LHB is a voter in his consituency. what abt the others? r they voting in our area? think loh seng kok is voting in NS - so how 2 represent us when he's voting in another area? also, will he vote 1st or show his muka on election day?
