I bet you are also wondering how the hell MPSJ can renew their business licence when it is compulsory that they are certified to be hygenic by the Pest Control Company. Rearing rats in their premise and keeping cats to check on its population is outside their scope of business unless they are selling exotic pets and rats are classified as one.

I've boycotted Giant. The food in their market section, especially chicken, is spoilt. I once went on a weekday night and the smell of rotting chicken was so bad we felt like throwing up. Another time, we saw a big cat dash out from underneath the shelves of the broom section. No wonder that the whole place smells of cat pee and is so filthy. I'd rather pay the toll to shop in Tesco Puchong or Shah Alam where even the fish area is sparkly clean with no smell. Let's hope that Mydin will be a good alternative to USJ residents.
Rotting chicken, fishes, fruits,.. we have experienced them all. Fortunately for them it is not always, and wifey still prefer to go there because of the convenience, hoping things will improve.. naaarh....
At least we now have an alternative and hopefully Giant is awake enough to improve their quality.
We should invite Giant's Manager or their bosses to read this thread.

Giant to improve their quality?
I doubt anytime in the near future. It's been going on for ages.

I personally prefer Carrefour to Giant USJ1.

The Giant aisles are so narrow and the kids will be playing with the trolleys banging here and there. It tends to get a bit annoying when u're bumped into from the back for the fifth time onwards in a single shopping trip. Then when you stare at that blardy irritating kid he/she will just go hide behind the parent and the parent pulak think, oi what did you do to my kids lah?
At least in Carrefour the lanes are wider albeit I have to go upstairs just to get my toothpaste and I don't get as many kids playing around with the trolley

I find Carrefour's lighting and ventilation much better than Giant's. I get a headache if i stay in Giant for too long

Fresh food - forget about the Giant in USJ 1. The meat section stinks and have been such for a very long time. I only go there for canned goods.
For meat, vege, etc... I either go to carrefour, tesco or Giant Shah Alam.

Giant is always my LAST CHOICE of shopping even though it always claimed to be the cheapest amongst all hypermarkets.

Just 2 weeks back, they advertised a midnight sale (7pm-12midnight) whereby a 200g pack of Nescafe is for RM8.99. My daughter went there at 8pm to buy a pack of that. However at the paying counter, the cash register shows RM10.99. When my girl told her that it should be RM8.99, the cashier answered her that she cannot do anything about it as the scanner reads RM10.99. Then, she called for her supervisor. Guess what the Supervisor said: "Harga Sales belum masuk computer, kalau nak sales price kena tunggu 10-15 minutes". Then he left. My girl decided that it's not worth the effort to wait.

I also had bad experience shopping in Giant and I always make it a point to double check my receipt when I shop at Giant.

Happy shopping to all!!!

I have stopped going to Giant USJ for a long time. The place always gives me headache due to its poor ventilation. However, the Giant at Kelana Jaya and Bandar Puteri is much better in terms of ventilation and freshness in foodstuff.
I also like to shop at Tesco and C4 and now for certain items Speedmart 99. Maybe next time, I will try Mydin.

Agree with you on that very stinking, feel like vomitting meat section, i have complained to the manager before. Not only that it smells, our clothes will also stink when we arrive home.
If Giant Shah Alam and elsewhere have no problems on that, then it looks like the Manager at Giant USJ1 is not doing his job in maintaining hygiene standard.

I have stopped patronizing Giant ever since they stopped my cart from leaving unless they check the receipt. Even though the new management stopped this practise a few years ago, other things have not changed and all these are highlighted by the various contributors here. Good reasons not to go.

I wish Walmart is here. But Carrefour and Tesco are good alternatives though.

Mebbe because Giant USJ stands for GIANT - U SAKIT JIWA

Its about time the management there wake up to reality....

And by the way, if any parents looking for infant milk formula, do try getting them from your local chinese medicine shop. You might just save a helluva bundle in the long run. ie: Enfagrow and GainKid is something like RM 4 to RM 6 cheaper per tin compared to ANY hypermarket. I get my kid's milk formulas from the chinese medicinal shop in Taipan...

From lots of bad comments here, in short, Giant NEED a total OVERHAUL!.
Maybe its the bad management attitude with making hay while there's sun, no need to rock a already stable boat, its still profitable despite competition, lastly take it or leave it altogether. What else to say?..sigh!.

One thing is very annoying, I think Giant (especially at most branches) and Carrefour is still very very slow at the checkout, more so when packed with people.

During the time when they were enforcing this bad practice, I just ignored them and pushed my cart out. While many times they could not do anything to me, at one time they refused to let me go. That was when I told the supervisor that unless they have suspicion that I was shoplifting, they have no bloody reason or right to stop me and checked purchases and my receipt. I could not be held accountable should there discrepancy as nothing could be done by me between the cashier and the guard which was in full public view and a distance of only 20-30 ft. That showed that they didn't trust all their customers. Thank God, they got some cow sense to discontinue this bad practice.

I believe Makro started that practice here and Giant emulated it. It only strengthen the culture that in business, "trust no-one!" or "In God we trust, others pay cash".

A guard did stop me once by holding on to the cart and refusing to let go. I filed a complaint to their management and a manager apologised saying that their guards are not supposed to enforce it if customers insisted on going out without wanting their receipts checked. I guess they have poor communications between staff and management.

Its not only that, its quite common what instructions filters down to the ground staff are not clearly understood, nor have the ability to exercise diplomacy, restraint or flexibility. Its likely their level of intelligence thats the limitation. They pay peanuts and what do you get..its obvious!..
