Another 100 Year Old Temple Earmarked For Demolition?

EARMARKED TO BE DEMOLISHED WEDNESDAY APRIL 26?

I have been receiving far too many telephone calls from very upset Hindus who are alleging that another more than 100 year old temple is about to be demolished - this time in Section 11 in Shah Alam Selangor!

Demolition is expected to be tomorrow morning according to the sms!

If any one has any 'intelligence' on this, please confirm. I believe it is one that is on a hill just back of the Kayangan round-a-bout?

If this is true it is really sad for last week another 'ancient temple' was demolished in KL?

BREAKING NEWS!

Several members of the KUIL SRI MAHA MARIAMMAN SECTION 11 SHAH ALAM have just confirmed that despite police reports made, appeals to the politicians and appeals to MIC Selangor State leaders they are expecting the temple to be demolished!

According to one of the committee members one 'spineless" MIC leader is alleged to have told them he cannot do anything and asked them to picket at the Temple site!

Is the temple built on private land or state land?

Lawyers for the temple could apply to the High Court for an emergency injunction to stop the demolition.

I am surprised that the MIC-wallahs are not helping to do this?

Dude .. this isn't the first temple they've demolished this month

Injunctions, even when granted, have occasionally been disregarded by the authorities.

Anyway, I just got this e-mail :

Quote:
Please gather and show support / oppose at 8.00 a.m on 26-4-2006 at :

Kuil Sri Mahamariamman,
No.3, Jalan 11/2F,
Seksyen 11, Jalan Tarian,
Shah Alam.

Those able to spare the time should go do the needful

Friend - Even if it is on state land there should be 'conventions and sensitivities observed' if indeed, this is a Temple with a 100 year old history, that puts it in existence even before 'BANDARAYA SHAH ALAM', the school or the presence of non believers' and religious fanatics habitats in its vicinity?

We can deliberate and the said land out of fair play could be purchased if need be!

We preach about unity in diversity, of religious tolerance, 'Malaysia truly Asia' and all that jargon, both here and at International Fora!

Perhaps, we need to invite both CNN and BBC to come over to Shah Alam since things are quieter at the ring road in Katmandu, Nepal!

MIC-wallahs? Good point indeed!

It is alleged that it was one such 'MIC Wallah' who told them that his hands are tied and go picket!

In my book, this fellas has been an embarrasement and his continued tenure in positions of powers is 'political fornication!"

I got the e-mail from PRIM (Uthayakumar's yet-to-be registered party) and usually if PRIM is involved, DAP and PKR are involved too. Don't know (and don't particularly care) about PAS.

I am pleased to bring to your attention that I am informed that with immediate effect several local and international individuals/media groups/bloggers and members of the civil society are monitoring the demolition of religious houses of minority and marginalized groups in Malaysia!

This is good.

Thanks to Jeff's Screenshots too this matter has indeed taken an 'international posturing!' by the calls I have received from abroad! Thanks Jeff!

Let the whole world know that Malaysia too has its fair share of hypocrites, fanatics, Talibans and racists though they may pretent not to be so during their trips abroad for conferences and the G to G programs or while study abroad!

As far as the demolition is concerned it is going as scheduled tomorrow I am told by the Temple Committee seconds ago! I am driving up in a few minutes to give them my support!

DJG,

Great job sir. Keep up the fight. Mua will be tarveling and will not be able to turn up tomorrow. Hopefully many people will be there. Record the whole thing via video if possible as we can show the world how tolerant is the Selangor maju govt. destroying a 100 year old temple regardless of whose land it is one is freaking stupid and arrogant.

MIC buggers are worth for nothing... Even a 100 yr old temple they can't do anything.Where is Samy Vellu who is the saviour of the Indians/Hindus in Malaysia? Well call Subra and tell him this is his chance to get some mileage if he is smart.

I have just returned from the Shah Alam Section 11 temple!

For logistics - if you are coming from either the Federal Highway or from Klang you must take the road up the massive round-a-bout towards the Selangor Istana on your left with Tesco on your right.

Facing you 100 meters is another round-a-bout - the 'Kayangan Round-a-bout' where certain contractors made a lot of money!

Take 12 clock (straight) and 80 meters from that round-a-bout is a Mobil on your left- take left there before Mobil and turn again left 20 meters later - go straight you will see on your RIGHT on the hill the 100 year old:

Kuil Sri Mahamariamman,
No.3, Jalan 11/2F,
Seksyen 11, Jalan Tarian,
Shah Alam.

When I arrived there were many devotees already praying and several holding virgil.

I went over to the back where the Temple Office was to meet the Temple Committee Members who were waiting for me.

They were shocked, sad, and speechless that this has happened.

They gave me copies of their Police Reports and the Notice sent by the MBSA about the demolition ( a standard letter with blanks on the space which is to be demolished!) and in this case that blank space had the Temples details.

Perhaps, this is the standard letter they send out each time they want to demolish a prayer house!

They told me that they had gone all over even to MIC's Selangor Exco but to no avail!

They allege he told them to seek the assistance of NGO's and to picket/demonstrate.

If this is so why is he still claiming to represent Malaysian Indians?

Another group of 40 are going over to Section 11 Police Station to make police reports.

One elder perhaps, in his 80's was so hurt that he was crying saying he felt betrayed by the politicians and the country while another shouted that it was time we had the equivalent of the Tamil Tigers in Malaysia to teach these fellas a lesson once and for all for their racism and arrogance!

I felt really helpless but assured them of all that we were doing through this community forum, with Jeff's Screenshots Column and our local and International networking.

I shared that I had already received 12 calls both local and international sources/journalists seeking more information to highlight this injustice which they allegedly claim was initiated by a racist headmaster through the dominant political party!

Yes a headmaster!

A younger group challenged me to stop the plans to demolish the Temple but I told them that I had no such authority nor power.

That all I can do with my friends and contacts is to raise a 'consciousness' that this act is an henious act and a betrayal of trust of a minority group in the country!

My wife and I performed an 'archana' - prayer at the Temple and I assured them that I will be there tomorrow morning to give them support and tonight that we will sms and contact all we can to be present at Section 11 Shah Alam, Selangor Darul Aman.

Tomorrow - I pray that common decency will prevail!

If it does not come I for one will not be surprised!

But remember what 'goes around comes around .......eventually!'

Post #4 - injunctions have been disregarded by the authorities. That's a serious matter. Was there any attempt to cite these authorities for contempt of court? Or did the aggrieved parties abandon all hope of getting help from the legal system and the courts?

The temple authorities in this particular case would be on much stronger ground if they are armed with a court injunction preventing the demolition for a specified period of time.

You cannot willy-nilly disregard the legal process in favour of a "confrontation" between the temple authorities and devotees on the one hand and the local govt on the other. To do so would be admitting that the courts in Msia are not capable of doing one of the most important things of what they are supposed to do, which is protecting the interests of the rakyat. That is opening a whole can of worms.

And by getting outside parties involved, you are just giving ammunition to the zealots and the nationalistic elements to allege foreign interference in a domestic issue - especially one as sensitive as religion. In any case, the agendas of some of these foreign NGOs and observers is suspect, especially if they are influenced by the "religious right" in the US.

Can seek assistant from MCA..... no? Because this is nothing to do with Chinese community?

This is the disadvantage of having "racist" based political party.
