Things to do in Brisbane

Hi all, I will be posted to Brisbane for a 2 months assignment, from what I see on the Australian Tourism website, there don't seem to have much things to do in Brisbane, anyone has any experience travelling in Brisbane or any "must-not missed place" ?

Just Google for it and check if those attractions are what you want.

If you have a GPS, better still.

good place to be a robinson crusoe, esp if u a bolehlander.

Early to sleep early to wake..nuthin to do but while away yr time... thinking of bolehlander friends back home eating char kwai teow, chee cheong fun, nasi lemak, deep fried devil, urban lupcheong, mangosteen, Musang, Ang Hei, duku langsat...hahahahahah!

heck, even the nite life..Oops! what nite life?

But seriously, its a damn great place to retire..fresh air, beaches (very brrrrr cold water even in summer), friendly people (i say friendly, i dint say they bcome yr friend), laid back kinda life... so, if u were n aging ellie looking to slowly pace out, tis the THE place! hahahahah!

Hahahaha, man, what I thought was right then, I been there once for a week, didn't see much, I thought I didn't have enough time to look around, but the reality is, there is NOTHING TO SEE!!! Okay, I guess I just have to bring a few good books there then. Thanks Tupai for the heads up

Seriously nothing much to do in Brisbane, i only went up the Ferris wheel near UTS in the down town when i was there last year.

however, since you'll be there for 2 months, drive to Gold Coast (about an hour drive) on weekends and enjoy the shoppings, the beach, the sea and all the theme parks there !

Gold Coast is the probably the only reason why Brisbane still exists....

Nothing much to do in Brisbane 'cept enjoying the city life there. Treasury Casino is nearby to the townhall and well... you could go to Southbank, it is a Sunway Lagoon type waterpark (free entrance) within walking distance of the city - on the riverbanks of Brisbane River.

What you could do is explore the outskirts... there is a Koala Sanctuary at Mt. Cootha called Lone Pine. Then you could either head north towards Glass Mountain to Australia Zoo (under 2hrs away - the late Steve Irvin/Croc Hunter home) and further up toward Mooloolaba (another 1 hr -Sunshine Coast) where you'd find the Underwater World....

Head south towards Gold Coast [under 2hrs] where you'd find the biggest themeparks and Seaworld there. Others, such as Dreamworld, Wet ‘n’ Wild and WhiteWater World are sure to please, Warner Bros. Movie World and the Australian Outback Spectacular provide their own unique feel, while Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary creates a never ending interactive experience with nature’s many creatures.

Wanna know more - just GOOGLE.

Cheers!!!

If you are important enough to be sent to Brisbane for 2 months, then you should also be important enough employee to be allowed a weekend car rental and charge them for the rentals each time.... I am sure you can squeeze that out of them... just make sure you don't go rent yourself a Proton Jumbuck...

If you are in Brisbane, a trip to Gold Coast is a must. There are actually many things to see and enjoy. Car rental ranging from AUD35 per day depending on type, year and transmission of the car. Since you will be there, shop around for the car rental as online car rental can actually be more expensive. The best thing to do is when you arrive, get to the Info center. They will tell you all the places and things you must do and visit. Different season offers different kinds of attraction. Just tell them what you like and they will guide you. The maps and info service is FOC.

go ahead and rent the car... but if I were you and the trip is a confirm thing - I'd book from the big players... 2 weeks you say... if you book in advance - they'd give you a damn good rate - all you need to do is email them and ask them... then tell them you're looking for the best rate available from all the big players... I got an Tarago (Estima variant) for AUD160 for the WHOLE WEEK! insurance exclude.

btw - GPS rentals are expensive, if you only need it for 2 weeks, I can lend you a Garmin 255W c/w australia wide 2010 maps...

Thank you so much guys and girls, thanks for all the advice and recommendations. As a conclusion, I will rent a car and drive to Gold Coast on weekends and enjoy a "retirement" kind of life on weedays in Brisbane
