If you want Manual, go for Perodua MYVI. SXi Hi-spec => RM46,000 only. My sis bought 1, it's been 1 year. 42L of tank takes her to 420kms. 490km on NKVE.
For Auto, go for Perodua Viva. Heard is More economical. But I not sure how economical, haven't owned or tested it. |

if 42 litres takes u 420km , then its really really bad consumption for such a small car...my old peugeot 206 gets abt 12km per litre inclusive of 1 hour jam daily...perhaps tinme to think of longer run, think of honda city or toyota vios, pay more for a better car and better consumption....like they all like to say nowadays, bite the bullet now...but reap the rewards later...

For the MYVI. Not really 42L. But Around 32L (RM60 each fill before the price hike) as my sister got "3 level to go" each time she fill up... Good for 420km mix driving. It's Very good in my book already.
As a comparison, My Iswara 1.5i Auto 3 speeder 45 litres only good for 290km mix driving! 382km highway. Contemplating installing NGV or selling it off. ANy pros and cons? Last edited by jefflimwh : 05-06-2008 at 11:28 PM. Reason: add something |

Thats the mileage that I get for my 1.6 wira (13km/L)! Myvi is not known for its fuel consumption its kinda bad, maybe consider Savvy, better body build (Renault). But I heard the AMT might give problems, so only MT is recommended. |

My sis in law happened to buy a lemon in that first batch S*vvy. I guess its unfortunate for her. Within 5 months the car stalled with a wrecked engine, due to a some cooling system defect but seriously overhauled under warranty. I saw the list, you'd land in hospital if you had to pay for it. 3 months ago, lube oil leaked out entirely and sump pan had to be repaired. 1 month ago, the ignition coil and cable assembly went kaput, cost her RM600. I think the AMT is also becoming quirky as the AT gear change timing is now somewhat bongkers. I told her to sell the car off soon. There you have it?.. if they don't get you via taxes, you get sick with local car. Of course there's happy stories too, but I'm just sharing one true story here. Perhaps one should google on those 2 makes and judge for oneself which is a better deal. Myvi have a better quality engine, (EFI, DOHC, 16V, timing chain, better technolgy) better power delivery and more silent. Savvy have excellent road handling and more positive steering that NO Perodua car can match. Better sporty feel at this price point. THE ONLY PLUS point I can feel. I've read Savvy parts are more expensive.

Family owns both MYVI & Viva but since I do not drive them on 'long term' am unable to give exact mileage calculation.
But the Viva is too light and does not feel very safe; the MYVI is solid and feels like a 'small sedan' than a K car and it has better / bigger interior space. For info on NGV, pls read / look up at www.ngvcommunity.com My Yaris gives about 13km/l at city driving with very low maintenance cost (same engine as Vios) - I think if you want to own a car for long term like 8 to 10 years, a Vios / City would do good. Myvi would be a better buy if Vios / City is above budget but pls try to make ownership comparison (maintenance cost - can get from all authorised service centres) and interest rate. I think Toyota's interest rate is much lower than Perodua and has a lower maintenance cost. Note: MYVI uses a Toyota engine, thus longer service interval at 10,000km just like Vios. my 2 cents.... |

I drive a MyVi, so far no complains - quite a friendly car for older folks - easy to park, nippy, comfortable and "affordable"

Mileage depends on how you drive. I get avg 230 km with each RM30 or RON95 petrol on my manual Myvi. Average speed below 80 km/hr. Like to car for its reasonbly good pickup, goog uphill climb ratw and overall performance - except for initial issues with defective clutch plate and detached drive shaft.

I thought the longer service interval is because of the synthetic lubricating oil they use. I had mine changed to the premium synthetic lub oil by Perodua and needs to reservice only after 6 months. |

Fuel consumption is a subjective issue and one can only gather a rough average which also depend on your light footedness, driving style, route, terrain, city traffic cirumstances and so on. There's no need for any ignition adjustments for fuel quality as its all EFI system there. Lube change is about 10,000km on regular lube and longer intervals if using synthetic lube. BUT if using syn lube, CHANGE THE OIL FILTER and top up every 10k km. This chore have not varied in the past 2 or more decades eversince sythetic lube came about. If unsure, READ YOUR CAR MANUAL BOOK.

Chang and rest,
Lube service is 10,000km / 6 months with semi synthetic oil for Toyota (Vios, Yaris & Camry are the models I know off) and for Perodua MYVI. I am sure of this fact as I own a Yaris and my Dad owns a Myvi. I also know that some UMW service centre's insist on 5,000km service even with semi synthetic, I am unable to comment on this but I think they are cheating. Subang jaya UMW service centre & Section 15 shah alam Toyota service centre are where I service my car and they allow 10,000km interval for semi. The Myvi is serviced at Perodua (direct perodua and not a dealer) and they practice 10,000km or 6 months for semi synthetic. As mentioned by a forumer, with longer service interval, we must check our oil level (this is important for those who drive less and drag for 6 months). My Yaris is going through the 6 months change interval and is running very well. Note 1: Honda does not practice 10,000km / 6 months even with fully synthetic oil. Note 2: Nissan allows 10,000km or 6 months ONLY with fully synthetic oil. Conclusion: Check with your car dealer / service centre but check only with the Manufacturer operated service centres and not the dealer operated ones. |

Thank you for the information. BTW, I only send my Toyota to the Subang Jaya UMW service centre but I must say I do not know about semi-synthetic since I only use fully synthetic. |

Rule of thumb of my mechanic: Fully synthetic can go up to 10,000 km per change (but my mechanic normally calls them in around 8,000km - by then the oil will be fairly thick and viscous ... ) Best is to do a visual check using the dip stick once you get around 8,000km Semi synthetic can go up to 8,000 km per change (recommended 5,000 km - Perodua at Puchong does the change every 5,000km) FULLY synthetic is normally for 2.0 litres engine and above ... below that (1.8, 1.6, 1.5, 1.3 etc ) semi is more than adequate. ( I think his business logic is if you can afford a car more than 2.0 - you can pay for the FULL price )Apart from mileage, there is also the TIME FACTOR - i.e. change oil every 6 months - no matter what is the mileage - reason, errrr .... oil gets dirty ??? (these are all rules of thumb from mechanic)
