Bad traffic on Federal Highway - 22 Dec

5.30pm If you're coming from KL using the Federal Highway to Subang, please turn using the first exit (Carrefour). There is a horrible accident further up where a motorcyclist died. I was stuck in that jam pretty bad but feel sorry for the motorcyclist family. Wonder what is he doing on the highway intead of the motorcycle lane.

Jan, many had posted regarding this bike on f'hway issue. And 99% comments esp negative ones were made by motorists. Get a bike and see it from their view...

For the ignoramus' enlightenment:

There are far too many reasons:
~ too narrow and winding with no runoffs in stretches
~ manhole covers protruding here & there
~ bad drainage of parallel drains resulting in spillover of gunks
~ flooding in stretches
~ nails..yes! NAILS many are new nails, intentionally scattered all along the lane from klang to mid valley, to generate 'mat puncit's very haram bizz
~ robbery esp at night with rope strung across to ensnare the poor chappie after his late night shift!

~ of course there are also the small rempits who use the f'hiway to race away...

etcetc...
I have spoke to 2 deputy ministers regarding this and all paid lips service...

Meanwhile, bikers esp the young 'uns on cubchais continue to be roadkills...
I kesian the innocent ones and how the family is suffering due to their demise...

Hey Mr. Tomaswaki, now is 2009 and 1981 is 28 years ago...

I used to use my little Suzuki TS125 along the bike lane in the same year you did, I was then an undergraduate shuttling between lectures and giving tuition to earn some money for my semester fees. The bike lane then was one of the best around.

By the 1990s, the entire bike lane was already a danger zone. Amongst the many ills were:

i. potholes;
ii. unlighted tunnels;
iii. flooding in the dark unlighted tunnels;
iv. crowded and busy with heavier traffic and users;
v. traffic policemen waiting for you after a corner and suddenly suprise you from nowhere;
vi. and nails being strewn on the road to intentionally puncture bikes so that those puncture repairers get more business.

The bike lane during the 90s was already a danger zone and in deplorable and dilapidated state. I can vouch for that becoz I was a member of a big bike club then and we approached and discussed the problems with every known politicians who, like Tupai rightly said, provided mere lip-services.

Now, I will only dare to ride the bike lane on two types of bike i.e. a BMW R1150GS or a scrambler because they bikes are relatively more manouverable and "forgiving". But then, I might still hit one of those nails and suffer a puncture. Worse, I might even hit those invisible wires set across the bike lane late at nite by robbers to fell their victims from the passing bikes.

So, these bikers, be they small or big bike users, will prefer to ride on the federal highway amongst the cars because it is of "lesser risks" to them than riding on the bike lanes. Let us try and understand their predicament.

Bro, wanna make some money?

Get a strong big electromagnet and install it on the bike before d front tyre.

After a KL-Klang run, I think we'd be rich once we sell off the iron nails.

Back in 1981, there weren't such scums called mat pancit.

There are always two sides to the coin. I too rode bike (not a cup chai ok?) until about 5/6 years ago, I never failed to use the bike lane when going along Fed Highway. Thank god I never had a puncture nor was robbed. Flooded track, dimly lit streches, irritating and annoying cupchai...yes.

I dont disagree with Tupai and Sentinel that the bike lane certainly has room for improvement. But the fact is that there are still many bikes using the bike lane. Why did this decimated biker had to come out to the car lane? In any case, I also sympathise with those bike that felt compelled to use the car lane, but they have to be considerate and ride carefully. I observe that many of these bikes that dont use the bike lane, ride on the main Highway like they are the taikor and often weave in and out of other vehicles. These bikes, I dont sympathise and they deserve to be knocked down. Bruder Tupai and Sentinel, sorry but that's my personal view.

TaiKor, No apologies needed. I always believe that its 'to each his own'.

The other side of the coin, Killing some1 on the road with your tin-can or any thing, can also lead the killer being:
- go str8 to jail for up to 20yrs on a manslaughter charge and whole family grieve for the killer's long period of eating curried rice
- simultaneously get sued in civil court, found guilty (100% sure lah cos already sentenced to jail mah), made to pay RMgodzillion$ bankrupt and whole family ended up 'pokai' and eat roti canai...HAhahahahah!

No apologies required. When it comes to this category of bikers, I have no sympathy either. Not that I am heartless but if you wanna play with fire, get ready to be burned...

A few years ago i read an article by an expat who wrote - Why do these motorbike riders keep trying to commit suicide on my car?

He added that during his first few months in Malaysia he would brake, swerve etc to miss them but gave up because he caused an accident avoiding them.
