The cops also know that the bike lanes are dangerous especially at night - thus they kind enough to turn a blind eye IF the biker is on the slow/emergency lanes at night....

whilst i understand the reluctance to use bike lanes..it would be good if they know their left from right and also the dotted lines in between lanes are not dedicated bike lanes.

You have your point but lets not confuse the issue with badly maintained roads/lanes. My question was, are bikers NOT allowed on the highway lanes meant for cars and 4 wheelers or must they strictly use the bike lanes as long as it exist alongside the main highway?. If its true, then any biker riding on the car highway is an offence.

the laws say that NO bike must be on kesas and fed hiway...but the laws also tutup satumata when bikes (esp big cc) dont use the narrow and dangerous 'dedicated' lanes...
Bikers also face
- brand new 1-3inches nails deliberated thrown all over so that the Mat Pomcit can then sell their services to 'repair' your punctures...U cannot ride more than 200 metres without 'picking' up a nail...As opposed to my 5000km each time in LOS with snagging a nail!
- flood, up to 1 metre pn stretches... a biker a few yrs ago had fallen and drowned!
- dangerous S-bends with no run off
- unlit and potholed tunnels etcetc...

Anyway, the autho knows about all these but chose to ignore them..
U ride at yr own risk and the usually the poor/lower income group are always the victims...

how much do those mat pancit charge? i think using the emergency lane is much safer for bikes as long as they behave correctly. even so the saman for using car lanes is only $30, IIRC?

i think the highway consortiums (eg: guthrie, PLUS, NPE - i think these are the consortiums, not too sure tho) need to do something with our toll monies. ideally, id like to see these billion-ringgit businesses do their CSR in terms of educating malaysian motorists (drivers and riders). they can spend, say 1% of their profits and try to get the government to match their funds in order to make the program into a national scale. with that much money, we can probably form an agency that can focus on educating these dangerous drivers and motorists.
education can be in a form of TVC (tv commercials), talks in local universities or even cool printed ads on newspapers. whatever it is, i sincerely think that education can solve most of the problem, if not all.
the bottom line is that any programs of this magnitude requires a lot of fundings (especially if some politicians up there wants to pocket some). we paid, cukai jalan, cukai kereta (300%). cukai tanah, cukai puntu, sales tax, etc etc.. i think we can probably spend it some on road safety programs.

suggestions: consortium of road companies in msia give out certain amount of funds and the gov't should match it in order to reach out to the motorists, nationally.

u think wrong. either that, u r another motOrist who never rode a bike or IN the bike lanes but made general know-all statement OR u r a cubchai biker who really abide by the law of safety riding..i.e.not doing more than 30-50kph in the bike lane...

unless and until u have rode in these lanes b4...then comment lah.

btw, i made a comment to a minister that these dangerous bike lanes killing and maiming the country's resourses were designed and approved by idiots driving cars! the minister laughed and commented "It is too expensive for the gomento correct the faulty designs..." so u see, the lives of the poor bikers, using the bike lanes, are worth chicken droppings!

My bro-in-law's cousin also rode a strad750 (lucky Strike colors)..he had a similar accident near motorola in the bikelane. He was in leathers after a spin in Batu3 track...Are we talking about the same guy?


Anyway, this distance relative (budding lawyer) was paralysed from neck down. We the biking community even got world famous motoGP racer, who had recovered from his paralysis, to write him an encouraging word...It works. It worked in many ways too...Though he progressively gained movements from waist up, He is blessed. Though his is on wheelchair today, he eventually married his physiotherapist! And have 2 beautiful girls!

Anyway, back tot he thread. I found out and kinda concluded thatmany bikes which jumped the redlight at junction, somehow do not look very malaysians. I see traits that ID many as indonesians and also many bangladeshi...of course, our very own home grown rempits lah!

The presenc eof traffic cops at 'infamous/hot ' junctions might net the gomen some revenues and hopefully deter these idiots from risking theirs and other peiople's lives.

Talking about bikers speeding, how come we don't see the traffic cops issuing saman to speeding bikes since the reported high fatalities from road accidents are from them?
