Nice food-Macau/Hong Kong

We would like to go for very good dinners in Macau/Hong Kong. Any recommendations? Can be Portugese, Chinese or buffets. We also plan for dim sum lunch at Lung King Heen in Four Seasons Central, which was accorded 3 Michelin Stars. The review from the websites were mixed. Any personal experience?

does it have to be a buffet?

I recall a few restaurants that I liked very much in HK & Macau ... but there are a lot of good choices so I wouldnt be able to recommend many.

If you are in Macau, there is a restaurant called Fernando's at Haksa Beach in Coloane. They have some excellent portuguese food.

Cheers, m

There is another awarded with Michelin 3stars but in Macau, a small french restaurant at the old Lisboa if fine dinning is what u go for.

I personally find the `Kitchen' in the New Lisboa a better dinning place if you are looking for some really fine steaks

No, does not have to be buffet or fine dining. Fernando in Macau also mixed review especially on the service. What about A Lorcha? Seems good and easy access.

Have not thought of Kitchen, will google the reviews. Thanks

Dim sum - Maxim Palace restaurant at City Hall in Central, HK Island

Others - there are about 20 Asian and Western restaurants between 10th - 13 floors at Time Square, Causeway Bay, HK island.

Hk is a food paradise. If you prepare to pay, the choices are plenty. THe abv recommendations will cost you below RM500/meal for a table of 4-5 persons.

I would like to share my experience with you. A few years back, three of us visited HK. On one occasion, we saw a big sign board (in Chinese) advertising their banquets. There was, amongst others, one captured our interest. A host approached us and I pointed at a set for two paxes which costed HK$168. However, as we had three persons, I told the girl (or woman) that we wanted this set for three paxes. We did not want the next one up which is for four persons and costed HK$268. She said no problems!
As none of us read Chinese, we actually did not know what were the dishes advertised for $168. When the foods arrived, we were pleasantly surprised as there were shark fin soup, abalone, fish maw and king prawns! All this for HK$168? However, when the bill arrived, it was HK$650!!! It may not be expensive for the foods we had but, hey, we did not request for those! So, watch out for such tactic.

Talking about Dim Sum, I love the Poh Low Chan Bao & Siu Loong Bao from Maxim Palace Restaurant. I'll post some photos in 'my favourite foods.' photo thread.

The queue is long, so go there about 11.15 am to avoid waiting for 45 minutes. It is a hugh restaurant.

Other good restaurants are Xi Yan, Yung Kee Restaurant, another good one but you have to have a Ning Po Residents Association membership to dine, Mak's Noodle at Wellington St, etc

There are a lot of cheaper and very, very good foods that are frequent by Hongkies in corner lots, side streets but you must know how to get there.

For Dim Sum, I have this restaurant to recommend- Fu Sing Shark Fin Seafood Restaurant at Lockhart Rd, Wanchai. Always full of local Hongkies, avoid going on weekend. Prepare to take a long queue number on any day.

There's an interesting review here from a malaysian blogger
