My co wants to bring a lecture from UK for schools tours. This year it was held at DBKL, Jln Raja Laut. But the auditorium is closed next year for renovation. We hv short listed Civic Centre, Panggung Bandaraya, KLCC Convention Centre and also PWTC. Nothing confirmed yet. The Production Manager will be in town next week to view these places. The venue has to be accessible by public transport. Just wondering if there are other venues worth looking at.

Run thru the directory list of kakiseni.com. I guess costs would be a factor.

Among the shortlist you might want to add Pyramid Conv. Centre.

MALAYSIA AIRLINES ACADEMY in Kelana Jaya has an auditorium (full A/V facility / seating capacity 1000+ ) and they also allow outsiders to use for functions lectures etc etc...

Even has 100 room hotel with F&B facility for your foreign/expat friends.

You need to contact the Building Management there though...

PM me if you want the contact..

    Ciao...

My suggestion is for such an event hire an event cordinator and they will be doing all the leg work for you. Take it from me. Your existing organisation with its current resources will not be able to manage this. This is not a normal activity. You can then pass the cost to the participants. This is only the beginning. What about publicity, marketing, handling phone calls and booking, program and cordination etc etc. Why not start at the very beginning. You then spend all your time monitoring the event cordinator rather than get bogged down with all the details and fire fighting. See your fire has just started when you don't even know which hall to rent. These professionals have with them which hall is the most suitable for you and the pricing too. Their availability to them is just a phone call away. Yours have to start at usj.com.my.

pc, any idea roughly how much will it work up to. Oh, btw, we cannot push costs to participants, as its meant for school children and thus masuk free!

My friend, the easiest money to make is from the students. ALL parents will fork out anything for their children education so I don't understand why you cannot charge them. If it is free, people don't see the value so they will take it lightly and worst still, they think ini perkara main mainn sahaja. I would suggest you need to charge them something and pass the cost to them. I know many are charging a bomb anything from RM 70 - RM 200 for educational event such as the motivasi courses. When I attend one of them with my kid, I say to myself I could have done it for half the cost and throw in some jokes for free. Charging a nominal amount also let you have control over the situation (no gate crashing and surprises) and also to defray your cost. Like this event cordination, it can cost you anything from RM 2,500 onwards depending on how complex you want it to be. Example are you going to invite others to set up booths to peddle their goods, provide lunches and refreshment to the students etc etc. If you have 500 of them, even if you need to pay say RM 5,000, it will be merely RM 10 to each students and lots of peace of mind to you. If you need further info, pm me. I have worked in organisations before where we always tai chi this task to those who know their stuff well and all the time it is worth it. They can even advise you how to recover those cost back by creative marketing or synergies.
