Exclamation Security upgrade launched for Touch ’n Go cards

"PETALING JAYA: All Touch 'n Go card users will have to register and upgrade their cards for better security features beginning tomorrow until Dec 8.

Rangkaian Segar Sdn Bhd, which operates the electronic stored value card, said cards which were not upgraded would not function after the deadline.

Users should bring their cards to any Touch 'n Go counter, including “add value” lanes at toll plazas, for the upgrading process, RSSB chief operating officer Swinder Grewal said in a statement yesterday.

All Touch 'n Go cards, including Touch 'n Go Zing Auto Reload Card, Touch 'n Go Hybrid Auto Reload Card, MyKad with activated Touch 'n Go features, and co-branded cards such as the Singapore Cash Card and Touch 'n Go Ferrari Card, would need to be upgraded.

There are around 2.8 million cards in circulation and one million MyKad holders with Touch 'n Go facilities.

“Touch 'n Go security features have not been compromised in the past but as new technology is available, it is time to update the card to maintain a fraud-free status,” she said.

On the registration process, Swinder said users who did not previously register should go to a Touch 'n Go counter and give their details by filling in a registration form.

They could also call the Touch 'n Go Careline Centre at 03-76285115, she said.

Forms can be downloaded from Touch 'n Go's website www.touchngo.com.my and either faxed to 03-76285100, e-mailed to touchngo_careline@rsegar.com or posted to RSSB's headquarters.

“With this exercise, details of card owners will enable RSSB to refund the money left in the card in the case of stolen or lost cards,” Swinder said, adding that the information would remain confidential.

Registration would also allow RSSB to give out free itemised on-line Touch 'n Go transaction statements or e-statements, she said.

Swinder said all users who upgrade, register or purchase new cards would automatically qualify for “The Winning Touch” lucky draw contest and stand to win a 42-inch plasma television every week or a Volvo S40 at the end of the period.

For more information, please call the Touch 'n Go Careline or check RSSB's website.

Federation of Malaysian Consumers' Associations (Fomca) advisor Datuk Hamdan Adnan said any security feature upgrading without any cost to the consumer was most welcome.

“This move will encourage greater use of the card. People will be more confident putting money in their card as they can get refunds if the cards are lost,” he said.

As RSSB would earn more revenue, Hamdan said it should reduce the cost of the SmartTag.

He also questioned the durability of the MyKad, especially when it was used frequently for its Touch ’n Go facilities."

I cannot find any such information on the touchngo website.

Nowadays, everyone wants our personal info at the excuse of some new technology. At 50 cents per data and with 2.8 million users, TNG will easily reap another RM1.4 million. What's in it for the user to take the time to register - nothing!

Users can win prices in their lucky draw... Swinder said all users who upgrade, register or purchase new cards would automatically qualify for “The Winning Touch” lucky draw contest and stand to win a 42-inch plasma television every week or a Volvo S40 at the end of the period.

With 2.8million users and taking one person only own 1 card... what are ur chances of getting that Volvo S40? 1 in 2.8million!!

Give me back my RM44 first....

By the way, a friend told me this recently (especially if you on long trips!) - get a RENTACAR sticker, stick it on your windscreen.... drive up to the manned toll booth - declare the car is a RENTAL and give your TnG Card to be coded....
when you exit the other end, your charges would be... GUESS... Kelas 5... or oso known as cheaper...... oso no need to Q-up...just TOUCH and GO..la

So far i find nothing sinister abt the up grading and registering. I am user and find this card very convenient as i don have to worry about loose change. Once my card got stolen and lost quiet a sum.

This main reason for upgrading and registrating :if you lose your card you can get it deactivated and get a refund of your balance...and also they are streamling and interegating the card to other new service providers.eg transport, parking, bus fares and soon to some themes parks too eg. Bukit Merah Theme park.
Registration is free of charge. and balance from old card will be transfered to the new card. If you want to terminante this service they will return the balance to you too.

PLUS SHOULD GIVE A REBATE OF RM25.00!

Just does not make sense after their last review.

Somethings is just not right! I have a very bad feeling about this! Watch and tread carefully!

And once again consumers are been put through hell and are they going to give some form of top up rebate of say RM25.00 to every touch & go customer for putting us through this?

Yes I am proposing it as a customer myself and also on behalf all consumers as President of the Consumers Association of Subang and Shah Alam, Selangor (CASSA)!

    You call Ms. PLUS!

    t g upgrade

why do the co.need personal information for a prepaid toll card ?
i just dont feel comfortable sharing personal biodata with a toll collection company.

why should we capitulate to this unreasonable demand ?

they can hv my 3 cards and the smarttag

with no legal protection under the umbrage of private data information,we dont even hv legal recourse in the event of the company misusing those personal data

in sing and hk under the privacy data act you can refused to hv ur identity card photostated-under their law those information is strictly for the police and the various governmental organisation-the bank can only check ur identitical card and not make copies of the card to prevent abuse of the holders information.

i don't understand why RSSB has to make it such that cards that are not registered will fail to be used after the deadline.

and, yes, i wonder if there is any easy money out of this whole exercise...
