How can M'sia be an education hub???

Our govt now is considering to lengthen degree courses at PRIVATE institutions from 3 yrs to 4 yrs. Never mind that they have been flip-flopping decision on the length at PUBLIC institutions from 4 yrs-3yrs-4 yrs, but to control the duration of courses at private institutions is really absurd.

If this kind of policy of intervention is adopted, how on earth can we attract foreign unis to set up shop here with a peace of mind? Are we discouraging students from studying locally (4 yrs) and go spend their parents money overseas (3yrs)? There is certainly no fit between Strategy and Execution in this country.

At one period of time Malaysia was very bullish to become the
an education Hub in Asia, but i think it has lost it's shine.

Many colleges were set up depending heavily for a flood of students,
especially from China.Many did come to get a cheaper passport to the UK or US.

But China had set forth a very aggressive program to promote the English Language and twinning with US and UK universities are now growing steadily in China.

Beside, not many students favour Malaysia due to its hot and humid climate which is not conducive for studying.

the gomen is getting all this education thingy wrong again (not the first time).
who wants to come when our local uni is ranking so low!! might as well get in quality lecturers like NUS (which has improve in stature globally). how to compete for students when we think we are "still" the best. we need to open our eyes and ears to improve.

Many of our government programs are built on a weak foundation including this idea of education hub. MSC was the same thing, Perwaja was the same thing. Proton was the same thing. The whole NEP is based on the same thing.

When you have university graduates from the best university in the land who cannot does not even no the 3R well, how do you expect them to convince others to pay a permium for education services? Who is going to believe?

Same thing with MSC, Perwaja, Proton and ultimately the NEP - its based on the presumption that somehow accountability is unfair, its overwhelming stumbling block to the underserved that fairness and social equity must be fought whatever the cost and darwinian naturality is to met with arrogance of making someone else pay for it.

The funny thing is we have thousands upon thousands of students who could not get a place in the public unis. on one hand and on the other, we have so many Bumi-owned private "unis" that could not get students? The situation is so bad that Najib asked that the private unis merged if they want to stay alive. In the 1st place, unis like these should not be given the licience to operate.

Now, the government is aksed to pump in another few millions to keep these "unis" alive. Are we not wasting public funds here?
