Could you tell me how to go about it.
I just shifted to an apartment block with a common Astro Disc for 14 apartment units. Can I just plug and play? Or, do I need Astro technician to do it?
Previously, the decoder is connected directly with a long white-colored cable to the satellite disc, but now I have a wall socket, so what sort of cable I need to purchase and where can I get the cable?

Go to any hardware or DIY store, tell them u need d astro cable that connect d decoder 2 d wall socket. They wud know coz is common 2 hv such astro socket in most apartment/condo nowadays. I got mine from DIY shop. Just plug in d cable & u r all set!!
No need to key in any mystical code can also work ah....wow. That easy ?

Since Dire Straits is an existin subscriber, his decoder & his smartcard shud hv been setup.
4 my case, I remember I didnt call up Astro 2 reconfigure my decoder when I shifted from my old rented house 2 my new apartment.

I think you are right. I approached the property manager, they told me they have forgotten to install a "box" on the master disc to receive the signal. All I have to do after their work is just plug and play.
But I also called up Astro Customer hotline just to confirm the procedure. Well, guess what thay have to say. A customer service girl said she cannot tell me how to go about the method to reconnect my Astro service as it is too "complicated" to talk over the phone. She suggested an installer. I asked her how much the installer will charge. She replied RM100. Then I said the price is ridiculous as all I want to do is to reconnect, not to install a new one. Well, she told me I can negotiate with the installer. So, this is my personal Astro encounter. Not a very pleasant one, is it? What says you, friends, is Astro professional or what?
Yup, agree that Astro customer service has becoming worse day by day. I remember when 1st installed Astro in 1998, whenever I called Astro customer service, d line got connected within few seconds. D service is also quite good. However when I last called them a few mths ago, I was put on hold & listen 2 Astro advert playin repeatingly again & again until I got fed up & disconnect d call.
Anyway 4 my case, they also asked me 2 get authorised installer 2 "plug & play" d astro decoder 4 me when I shifted 2 my new apartment. & same as u, they ll charge $100!! They dun even need 2 install d dish, what a rip-off.
How to get to Customer Service promptly
Share with you my trick! Check out your Astro Guide for the tel. no of Advertising dept. And insist that the recepient transfer your call over to the Customer Services dept!!!! I tried and it worked promptly! I did this after I listened to 15 mins of music played while being put on hold!!!! &*())_+&^%%$##@@ Frustrating!!
Astro has contracted most of their services including the distribution of their guides.. so its no use barking up the wrong tree for help. Its best you find a private installer without the assistance of Astro cos it would take nearly 1 week for the agent to get to you.
Their services are cheaper too and prompt..usually they charge RM 50 or lesser for a visit.
I had my astro repaired and adjusted lately and I have kept his phone no. for any future assistance.
I have some tips that may be of use. We cannot switch the Astro dish between different models of Astro decoder without first programming for it. Especially if you are using a centralised dish like in an Apartment unit, the dish might not be compatible. Try this:-
1. After plugging in your decoder to the wall outlet, select Menu in your Astro remote and choose Satellite signal.
2. The indicator bar show show a green bar in order to watch Astro. If you notice that there is just a red bar with no signal after plugging into the wall outlet (please ensure your connection is not loose), chances are that the dish is not compatible with your Astro decoder.
3. Still in the satellite signal screen, press 369 on your Astro remote. A screen would pop up on the dish configuration. The default configuration should be at "Automatic". Click and select on "manual" and select your frequency at 10.000 Ghz. Click OK and you should be able to receive the satellite signal now.
And to think they charge us RM100 for the above procedures.... Do share this around.
