    houseman pay

was a houseman a long long time ago ....
RM 4000 sounds a lot, but that will require to work , probably 100hours of work per week .... roughly RM 10.00 per hour :-(
The calculation is based on a lot of overtime on call allowance, with basic pay of around RM 2000, plus critical/federal and housing allowance .....
For the hours of work you put in, it is actually peanut.
Only people insane will be smiling, I think.
However, I do agree with you, it is a lot better now; we used to have take home pay of RM 1200/month before tax !!

hmckl mentioned "calculation is based on a lot of overtime" - I guess hmckl chose a wrong word to clarify his/her statement.

However, just to add some info and to clarify .... :- in the Professional and Management level of the Govt service, such officers are not eligible for overtime. Furthermore, when the job needs to be done, an officer cannot refuse to work, even if it is beyond the normal working hours. Most people have the std perception that a Govt servant is a someone earning a "blind salary" (gaji buta) but the observers choose to be blind to govt servants who actually work like dogs with poor pay. Doctors were one of them... now it is looking better for the docs.
