Ministry cracking down on Cybercafes
"Cybercafes in the country are advised to immediately make sure that all the software used on their premises are legal copies, and that the product-licensing conditions are being strictly adhered to
“The law applies to all, without fear or favour,” said Mohd Shahar Osman, the Federal Territory enforcement director, in a press statement recently.
Shahar advised cybercafe owners to check with the software owners to ensure that they have the correct software licensing agreement for their business.
A cybercafe in the capital was raided last week. More than 28 copies of Microsoft Windows 98 SE, Windows XP Professional, and Office Professional 2000, suspected to be unlicensed, were seized in the raid".
I cant understand the favortism and double standards being practiced here..pirated copys of softwares of all sorts are rampanty being sold openly in Low Yat Plaza. Imbi Plaza and other Plazas too. Why arent these ppl being arrested, they too are infringing the copyright laws
Maybe I am missing something here.
It is one thing for personal users to use pirated software, but a totally different case if a company/corporation uses pirated software, simply because they are using the software as a part of their system which makes them money - us personal users do not use counterstrike to make money, at least I hope not!
Thanks Tim for your response
Those RM5.00 software, are they not illegal to be sold, afterall they are indentified as pirated stuff.
I'snt there a law against this racket? just curious..surely these software are saving us lots of $$$..but thats not the point.
Its boils down to cheating the owners of the software
Purchasing unlicensed products for microsoft is illegal. It has been stated in the policy before. In United Kingdom, microsoft is changing original copys for the pirated ones.
so wot is illegal with a pirated software/video-cd ?
to buy/sell it on the road side, in restoran ......
to sell it in sungai wang or low yat plaza must be legal, how else can you rent whole floors to sell this stuff, while others doing the same thing on the roadside will be arrested, summoned or whatever ??
maybe it is just that those big rollers to destroy the cd's cannot go up those small escalators in the shopping centers ????
