I have done the Sentricon method - TWICE. Make sure you choose a reliable contractor as the first one did a "con" job. Compared and it normally costs around 2k plus - I used Rentokil the 2nd time.

Drilling wouldn't work with mining land as it can't retain the pesticide - that is what I was told and the pesticide used is really posionous.

Personally, I think you can only chase them away to your neighbours house with the termites treatment, it will likely to come back.

I did the drilling method for termite prevention but it's not effective. I have to get the guys to come back every 4 months to do a check as termites return. Found out that whenever my neighbour (who doesn't use any pest control treatment) uses termite powder to treat termite-attacked zone, those pest would pack their bags and family, move over to my territory!!!!!

And after all the drilling, I have ugly patches of holes on my tiles!!!! Everytime I see those patches, my heart aches!!! And it's been 6 years since my house had the treatment. I was given a warranty of 7 years, but within the first year, I had my next attack!!!

So if there's other better method, consider them and NOT drilling!!

    Termites

I have em...found a nest in a neglected area of my kitchen.

3 holes close to each other, inside the wall, all at tile corners (the space in between the tiles). What could they eat that could be found inside the walls?

Some mud trails in different areas of the house, all close to the wooden door frames and all in the same area...in the rear of the house. Also seen in the ground floor toilet (beside the kitchen) and the second storey toilet (above the toilet beside the kitchen).

My landlord didnt want to pay much to inspect or exterminate.

Any information or previous experiences with these critters...what can I realistically expect from extermination?

Do I need to anticipate a move?

    Cheers, m

In most cases, termites is not a difficult problem to stop esp. if you already found the trail. Get those termite powder and put it in their path.....the whole idea is to kill the queen...then the whole colony will collapse.
Worst case, call the pest control guys.
In extreme cases, they ( the termites) have already done severe damages by the time you notice them.
    Good luck.

Very true... Better arrest then problem fast.

Added after re reading your posting....

Time to move house. Since the landlord is not bothered, better move out now before you have to pay for the door , door post and all wooden fittings replacement.

What they eat...anything wood!!!! even cardboard, cloth, anything!!!!

M.. are you sure they are not having a party at the roof ?
They can bring the whole roof down if nothing is done now to stop them. Do a gentle knock on all the wooden frames n listen for some telltale hollow echoing sound. Prepare for some shocking revelation or some relief....

Hi AllUrban. Looks like these six legged iron teeth creatures fancy your house so much. I am surprised that you don't even know there is a gourmet kitchen within a kitchen serving gourmet food that even make these white ants to eat their way through concrete to patronise this kitchen. Tell you what. Screw your landlord. If he thinks you gonna bear this cost to protect his house, he must be nuts. But I have a irresistable offer for you. I know a company which is the Ghostbuster equivalent of white ants and better than Air Asia with money back guarantee. I spoke to him and he wants to offer only to you a 3 month trial on his wonderful product that will kill all those damned white ants FOC. Those Houdini ones which survive this annihilation will be so scared that they will pack their bags and never to be seen again for 3 long years. Within 2 weeks, you should be able to see the results. You then come here and tell all. If you are game on this, you know my number, you call me. We can start this this Sunday. This FOC offer is only extended to AllUrban because he has an Uncle Scrooge houseowner.

Ooops my 30 minutes is up and I couldn't edit my earlier posting

It is not a company I am refering to but just a friend who is looking for someone who has terminte problem to prove his product to me. We were having an interesting discussion on termites when he said he has found a way so much much cheaper and so much effective that I practically told him "Then in that case you will practically put the thousands of ringgit Sentricon system out of business."

The other thing I need to stress and edit is I don't want to be seen that I am making use of AllUrban to testify the product. He does not need to tell all. Looks like I may also have to bring this secret with me to my grave. This is not a business proposition. It is a challenge to prove a point between two friends. The product is so cheap that for this challenge, it is offered to him for free.

No, it didn't work for me. In the end, I called up pest control company, and after a year, the termite was gone.

roly, i am no expert in this, drilling method wud stop any termites colony from occupying the earth under your house, while for those that comes from your neighbours house, i think sentricon wud be a better solution. as the termites will bring the poison back to their colony occupying your neighbour premises.

drilling method does not mean you stop doing regular checks on your house.

When I bought my house I checked all the timber frames and did not find any traces of termites. When I moved in I realised my house was infested by ants, all kinds of them small red ones, big red ones, black ants etc. Just when I was about to do something to get rid of them, a friend advised me against it. He told me that where there are ant colonies there won't be any termites, so i let them be. How about trying this natural method..may work
