Termites tend to 'migrate'. If your neighbour's house is really close to yours, then be a bit careful. They might migrate over if your house is untreated.
Happen to my house too few years back in Sunway. First neighbour had the problem, then I had it, then another neighbour, and so on... I'm not sure when the pest control comes will kill them all ... maybe that's why they 'migrate'.
A wise man refrains from talking but a fool utters rubbish.
I used the Sentricon system - it is expensive but I can tell you that it is VERY effective. By the way, it is not limited to one pest control company, a lot of them offer this technique - so I am not advertising for any particular company, the important thing is the method of pest control. Oh, by the way, it does not use chemicals - very environmentally friendly and safe for kids.
before i move into my new place, i have checked around, sentricon is very effective for premises already infected with termites. for those looking for prevention, they suggested thermidor (drilling method). and that too very expensive but comes with 5 years warranty.Originally Posted by kwchang
Our house got infected last year, and after shopping around, we opted for the drilling method. Different people have different opinion about the effectiveness of the methods available.
If u are infected, try not to touch and clean up the colony. They build dirt tunnels, so try to leave it alone. Call the pest control to come and assess the situation. Get a few to come, prices and supports vary.
Also, if u are doing treatment, pls inform your immediate neighbour. Luckily we did, and in 3 weeks, the termites moved to our neighbour. They were able to detect it almost immediately, and call for help.

And after all the drilling, I have ugly patches of holes on my tiles!!!! Everytime I see those patches, my heart aches!!! And it's been 6 years since my house had the treatment. I was given a warranty of 7 years, but within the first year, I had my next attack!!!
So if there's other better method, consider them and NOT drilling!!
roly, i am no expert in this, drilling method wud stop any termites colony from occupying the earth under your house, while for those that comes from your neighbours house, i think sentricon wud be a better solution. as the termites will bring the poison back to their colony occupying your neighbour premises.Originally Posted by RolyPoly
drilling method does not mean you stop doing regular checks on your house.
Yup did that & quite happy with results ...... hey guess what ??? neighbour happy with results as wellOriginally Posted by kwchang

U c this Sentricon thingey apprently kills the entire colony of termites in their underground nests. So neighbour very thankful .... however not so thankful as to want to share costs (Not cheap)..... the A**HOLE ( I mean my neighbour lah
).
Something to do with treated pine wood slabs used to attract the soldiers who gouge on it and regurgitate for the Queen termite to dine. Said Queen would then proceed to dine and then, as they say " She will be history ".
You are right that these chaps will not start you off on this Sentricon thingey if there is no trace of termites in your house .....Originally Posted by gtl
But drilling ..... oh oh go easy on that bro. Dont rush into it.
Apart from leaving very impressive evenly spaced dots on your living room floor ( and hey, they managed to match the colour with the rest of my expensive marble floor !!![]()
) how effective is that Rm 1 k plus treatment ?
I see some ant poison sold in packets which works on the same principle, ie. worker ant takes the bait and subsequently bring it back to nest. Feed poison to colony, colony dies................
It that poison works on termites, Sentricon is history because that packet cost only RM1 each !!!!

Then I have to get the pest control company back here again for prevention treatment!
I had a bad experience with the drilling method. The guys didn't manage to patch up the drilled holes with the color of my tiles in my kitchen. So they look real ugly! And I have deep regrets over it. Cost about RM1,200 when it was done about 6 years ago. Came with 7 years warranty.
Most ppl would not want to have smelling & toxic chemicals around the house, be it in the ground, between the walls or under the roof.
The reason is simple, you do not want you or your family and children to breath in this toxic chemicals day in and day out.
It's not heathy!
A long time ago, I had seen a very successful Pest Contractor mixing a very toxic chemical ( 4got the name) with diesel and it is very effective. But nowsaday, this chemical is banned.
But what I learnt from this is simple, you can actually use diesel if your house is not affected. Spread diesel around outside the house. By doing this, you are forming a barrier on the ground and the termite would not want to cross it.
Please only do this if your source of water supply do not come from underground.
Try it out, the smell will go away after a few days.
Correct me if I am wrong, I am only assuming diesel is harmless.
Normally how much does it cost to call the pest control and for the whole process of terminating the pest?
I know it depends on the situtation and the area involve. But can anybody give a price range, from the cheapest (use diesel??) to most expensive?
We paid RM1400 for our corner house, including spraying of the roof and garden. It came with 3 years warranty. Our neighbour (intermediate) paid around RM1100 with 5 years warranty.Originally Posted by TepenPucong
The smell is awful, we had to stay out for a few days. And we have to plan where they drilled the holes so that it's covered by furniture or hidden from sight. That's why the Sentricon system is so 'attractive'.
Err...just wondering...anyone staying in USJ 2 having termites problem?...or is it just some areas in USJ that is affected?![]()
