    This problem is with WinXp.

What was the previous graphic card you were using? If it's any other than NVidia, then you need to uninstall it first. WinXp must revert back to the default SVGA driver at 8bit color and 800X600. Then swith off uninstall the graphic card and install the new one.

    Good Luck

I suggest you check the graphic card's compatibility with the type of motherboard you are plugging it to.

When I bought the parts to build up my own PC, the shop assistant warned me about using a particular Nvdia graphic card with the ASUS motherboard I was buying. Apparently the graphic card would burn out if plugged in to that particular motherboard.

Moral of the story - not everything is plug-and-play.

It's more appropriate to say PLUG and.... PRAY ?

I have one GeForce 4 MX440 that I couldn't get it to work properly yet for quite some time . Google on the MX440 give me a shock ....hell of a problem...

Speed is always backwards compatible, for example, a 4x device must be able to run at 2x and 1x.

The signalling voltage is the only incompatible part.

An 8x device must be 0.8v,
    a 4x device can be 1.5v or 0.8v,
    a 2x or 1x device can be 3.3v or 1.5v.

    Read it all here...

noooooooo......it's not because that....i think that your monitor have problem and does't support that geforce fx 5200...

then..if you can see the first screen like the
    "
    CPU: intel p4 bla...bla....
    ram: 2567345 mb bla..bla

and hit del tu enter cmos setup screen"

the your pc is ok..you must enter the windows safe mode...
-by press F8 key after you see the first boot screen just like i type...nah...
-just trry it then, now you must in the safe mode hit ok to continued..
-right click the desktop ~ click properties ~ settings
    -click advance ~ click monitor...
-in the monitor screen, click monitor settings..
-change your monitor settings by click in and choose adapter default..
-then click apply..and restart your computer...

*this if you can see first boot screen...

    Capacitors ....

Some boards may employ temperature sensitive fan control . It only turns on when it's hot .

Err...I've no answer for that myself . I've four motherboard lying here gathering dust here. My trusted supplier says that if the warranty is over ,the repair cost comes to almost the cost of a new motherboard . They have to ship all the way oversea n you will have to do without one for as long as it takes .
Warranty stuff is normally swap for you .
