    Re: 3 Questions

Please note that you do not backup programmes. For example, you cannot backup the Microsoft Word application. You can back up the data such as the word documents but never the programs.

That is because programs must be installed from the installation disk. The process of installation involves a lot of processes, the main ones would be to create codes in the Windows registry and creating dll's in the systems area. To install just one program like Word would actually involve installing a large number of configuration files in various parts of the harddisk. So it is never possible to backup a program.

Keep the original installation CD that came with the product. If your PC gets corrupted, you will need to reinstall the applications. No short cut for that.

There is actually one - Norton Ghost for example which makes a complete backup of your whole harddisk but I have no experience with that hence can't elaborate.

    Re: 3 Questions

    1. Does anybody know any kind of programme that monitors the O.S for problems if any & fix it ?

    That's a very general question.....
For XP it already has the Event Monitor. It doesn't fix the problem per se. It does offer some hints in its text explanations. You would have to do some research on the Net to find/decipher the solution. For other OS, I'm not familiar...

As for "problems" - jeez! that's pretty vast. For starters:
    For viruses, you have AVG..
For spywares, you have Spybot and Lavasoft....
For registry problems, perhaps EasyCleaner may help..

    2. How about any good back up programme & what is the size of the file ?

Back up programs are usually paid softwares, like kwchang mentioned, Ghost is one of them. Sorry I don't use it and don't know its size..

Know what? The best back up program is a CD writer...-
Just burn all the programs you have downloaded from the Net on your broadband connection into a CD\CDs and keep it in a safe place.

    3. Other than backing up of files , what more that is important should be backed up ?

If you wants to "back up" a program, you can, as an example, cut Window's Service packs into a CD by way of streaming. You will have to do a google on "streaming windows service packs" to learn how to do that.

Heck! With a CD writer\burner, you can do "wonders"...wink, wink!-

My back up strategy: I have an old PC running Win98SE. I bought an additional harddisk and placed all my data files there. Now when the PC goes haywire and I need to reformat, I just reformat C:\ drive. My data files are safe in the other hard disk...

    Cheers!
