Not true Raymond. This morning, I got a call from the MP for Kelana Jaya YB Loh Seng Kok to collect some cheques from him anytime tonight. Why some and not one cheque? He said as a MP and a public servant, he has been approached by many bodies for donations. He tried to oblige on a selected basis. But when the SJ/USJ community approached him for this good cause, he went one step further. He passed the hat around among very close friends. I don't know the amount but am making arrangement to collect the cheques from him. The key thing is we should not be competiting nor arm twisting. We should give like God giveth - "My cup runneth over."

    Members of our Community

It is fair comment that Raymond made about the MPs not forthcoming with their donations.

I have initiated the contact with all the MPs and ADUNs since the very beginning on 28/12/04 and can assure you that there was never any arm twisting as you have indicated. (You should know me better)

All the ADUNs responded first, and as leaders of our Community, they should. We respect and accept their contributions, it reflects their active participation as members of our Community.

It is therefore only right that we ask of our MPs, who are not only leaders of our Community but of other similar Communities. This is what is called accountability.

It maybe ok for some people to just let things roll along, but when we start something, letís give off our very best, for we have also been taught that God helps those who help themselves.

My thanks to him. I reckon everyone would not mind mileage, it is after all human nature. I am hoping the best mileage we get is that we show what a caring neighbourhood we are, and perhaps the uncaring ones amongst us will fall in line too, for when something is praised, everyone wants a part of it. As long as they are, and it helps them become better people, it bothers me not. One good thing is, a good deed is done.

    Tsunami Disaster Relief

    GOING SLIGHTLY OFF TANGENT

BANDA ACEH, Indonesia : Indonesia told foreign troops helping tsunami victims to get out of the country "the sooner the better" and defended tough new restrictions on aid workers, while rich nations prepared to freeze Jakarta's debt repayments.

Vice President Yusuf Kalla said foreign troops should leave tsunami-hit Aceh province on Sumatra island as soon as they finish their relief mission, staying no longer than three months, state media reported.

"Three months are enough. In fact, the sooner the better," Kalla was quoted by the state Antara news agency as saying.

The armed forces of Australia, Japan, Malaysia, Singapore and the United States have all rushed task forces to Aceh in the wake of the December 26 disaster which killed at least 106,000 Indonesians out of a total of more than 158,000 deaths in Asia.

    ....
    See Channel News Asia

This is the "thanks" that the rescue forces get..there were not there to fight a war..they are there wz manpower and equipment, when it was needed most..
Now they saying.."get out..we do not need you"!

    Where got road?

Mystical, are you still in contact with the airlines re sponsorship?

If they are willing to sponsor tickets to New York, I will put up a tour package (complete) to Florida, plus a day at the races in Daytona and a cruise to Barbados for 2 people worth USD 2300 for auction, proceeds going to the fund as a last measure of our effort towards our fund.

I don't feel like holidaying anyway.

    I refer to this post.

Re: USJ Tsunami Disaster Relief Fund

I should like to confirm that Cheques totaling RM25,028.00 collected under the SJ/USJ Tsunami Disaster Relief Fund were handed over to the

    Malaysian Red Crescent Society

at a simple ceremony at their Headquarters in Ampang this morning at 10.30am, the event was well attended by the mass media.

Together with 12 other Organisations including the Insurance Brokers, Car dealers, and the Korean Community a cool ľ of a million was collected.

It was also pointed out that more than 30 tons of aid was received and awaiting shipment to Aceh, Sri Lanka and India.

Once we have the pictures of the handover, they will be posted here.

A quick thank you for your contribution toward this Community effort.

    MRCS Drawing Up Post-Tsunami Programme

KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 4 (Bernama) -- The Malaysian Red Crescent Society (MRCS) is drawing up a post-disaster programme to help the affected people in the countries hit by the Dec 26 tsunami, MRCS Vice-Chairman Datuk Dr Noordin Abdul Razak said Friday.

He said the programme would be carried out with the co-operation of other international voluntary organisations.

The programme, which had a span of six months to a year, was still under discussion, he said.

A team of seven MRCS volunteers would leave for Aceh Saturday to hand over humanitarian aid to the tsunami victims there, he told reporters at the presentation of donations amounting to RM252,798 from 14 companies and organisations at the MRCS headquarters, here.

The contributions were handed over by representatives of the organisations to MRCS Chairman Tunku Tan Sri Shahriman Tunku Sulaiman.

The donors were the Korean Society, the Korean Women's Society, Malaysia National Insurance Berhad, GD Express, Lanson Place, Sunrise Mont Kiara Community Berhad, Clipsal Manufacturing Sdn Bhd & Management & Staff, Insurance Brokers Association of Malaysia, Exxon Mobil, Kuala Lumpur & Selangor Car Dealers and Credit Corporate Association, Unilever Malaysia, Mediconstant Pharmacy Sdn Bhd, USJ Residents Community Association and Circle of One Charity Auction and Donation.
