    Re: SJ/USJ Tsunami Disaster Fund

Maybe a gist of what happened at the meeting just now.

    1. Plan A - In order to launch the fund, we need to open a bank account. We chose the USJ 18 Neighbourhood Watch as they are a NGO known to this community and is registered with the Registrar of Society. This means their account is auditted and thus will show full transparency. So they look more credible but alas their constitution is a stumbling block. Their bank account can accept deposits but prevents disbursement. For disbursement of RM 10,000 and above, it requires a AGM to approve it. This means money can go in but cannot come out. This is a great hassle and it is no go.

    2. Plan B - Use USJ Residents Association (USJRA) to do the same thing. But to open an account, the bank wants to see a resolution passed by the committee at a valid meeting. The earliest the meeting that can be held is only on Sunday afternoon as due notice has to be sent to call for such a meeting to pass a resolution. A meeting has been called.

    3. Plan C - Get PC Yeoh and Robert Chan to open a joint account for this purpose but then the issue is "Who are these two people that we can trust them with our money? Outside SJ/USJ, their credibily is next to Ground Zero.

At the meeting, we have people who have already pledged over RM 10,000. Our Chairman of this Tsunami Relief Campaign, Mackzuklifi is optimistic to achieve a collection over RM 50K.

Can someone provide suggestion the quickest and the most credible way of creating an account for this purpose without losing the SJ/USJ identity? Will provide further update.

I personally feel that Plan A is still the best.

So we need a USJ18 Residents’ Association AGM to approve the disbursement of amounts above RM10,000, so be it.

It maybe a hassle, but I am sure our friends at USJ18 will accommodate. I am assuming that they did not come outright to say it was a problem.

Guys we really need to start this off.

Err...Robert ...Orchi was at the meeting last night...the response from USJ18 is overwhelming...until the AGM issue hit a snag...which according to them...they would not see a quicker solution n could not jeopardize their bureucracy issue under the constitution which requires the AGM to approve all withdrawal above 10K as 'expenses' or 'perbelanjaan'...n calling each AGM or EGM would take at least upto 2 weeks prior notice to each effects...

On the suggestion by PCYeoh...co supported by Jayan...they could do with much less with their ends of the hassles...meaning...DO FIRST...answer for the good cause later...n they could get the donation mechanism started much quicker...so as the donation drive could immediately follow suit...

Err...by what we understood...this would be in place without further ado..within the next 3 days or so...excluding off banking time...due to the fact that they would have to open another account n account name for the purpose of the donation drive only.....

So Please Gentlemen....What say you n the rest of you?

    Re: SJ/USJ Tsunami Disaster Fund

Since there are so much red tapes. My suggestions is

    1) Ask the donors to write the cheque directly to the charity organisation, Mercy Malaysia, Red Cresent, BH-TV3-NTV-NST, etc. We just help to collect the money and pass it on to them or bank in for them. Paste the receipt and information of donors on usj.com.my website.

    2) If paid by cash, then give the donors a receipt and then bank in the money into the organisation and then paste the receipt and information of donors on usj.com.my website.

    3) As for the clothes and etc. Anyone can hand it over to the Indian Temple near Summit, Budhist Org in Brickfield, USJ 4B on their own. If we wait, they will die of cold!

All this had to be done on a daily basis, in order the money to arrive on time. Not to keep for a month or more then hand over.

Better be fast, people are dying while are are still thinking how to collect.

I know everyone is doing their best and is keen to help. Better MALAYSIA BOLEH.... than MALAYSIA BOLEH mati!

    Typical, Malaysian!

In my eyes, things are suppose to be so very simple, but then, I am shortsighted.

You guys make the final decision, you have my full support.

Just one request, make it quick.

    Re: SJ/USJ Tsunami Disaster Fund

The constitution of USJ 18 NW demands that the committee calls for a AGM to endorse any withdrawal. The BM word is "Perbelanjaan" which can be interpreted in two ways - expenditure or debit. The expenditure can only mean "spending" while debit or withdrawal encompasses a wider scope including disbursement of funds. The AGM mechanism is to prevent extravagance. But constitution is sacred and there are no two ways about it and the court cannot be symphatetic even if you have mitigation factor.

Unhappy Re: SJ/USJ Tsunami Disaster Fund

I already posted this message at the Tsunami Eathquake. Just in case u all miss out!!!

    'Indon toll may ‘reach 400,000’

    BY S.S. YOGA
KUALA LUMPUR: Indonesia is facing the possibility that as many as 400,000 people there died from the devastating earthquake and resulting tsunami on Boxing Day.

“Currently, we have about 50,000 listed as dead but there are so many affected areas that we have not reached yet, where there is no communication and the final count might reach 400,000,” Indonesian Ambassador to Malaysia Prince Rusdihardjo said.

He said that from the air, they could see the town of Moulabouh in the west of Aceh some 140km from the epicentre (of the earthquake) had been almost 80% decimated.

“There are no buildings standing except for a military building that was on slightly higher land. There are only bodies everywhere, they could not see anyone alive but we hope some managed to get away. The population there is estimated to be 150,000.

“There are probably about 30 islands that are totally or partially submerged,” Rusdihardjo told reporters after receiving cheques totalling RM1mil from the Permodalan Nasional Berhad Group here.

Rusdihardjo said rescue and aid efforts were hampered by the fact that much of the infrastructure had been destroyed in the northern and eastern coastal areas and in Bandar Aceh.

“We are also worried about the spread of diseases like diarrhoea, cholera and lung-related ailments as a result of so many bodies that are still not buried.

“We really need medication and fresh water as all the water sources are polluted. They need food but you can go three days without food but not water,” Rusdihardjo said.

At an earlier cheque presentation, PNB Group chairman Tan Sri Dr Ahmad Sarji Abdul Hamid handed over the cheques to Rusdihardjo for the Indonesia Tsunami Disaster Fund, while cheques amounting to RM200,000 each were presented by PNB president and chief executive Tan Sri Hamad Kama Piah Che Othman, Kumpulan Guthrie Berhad chief executive Datuk Abdul Wahab Maskan, Golden Hope Plantations Berhad legal and corporate affairs director Norlin Abdul Samad, Maybank Group public affairs head Wan Norhiyati Ibrahim and Sime Darby Berhad motor division divisional director Yip Jon Khiam respectively.

Prior to that Ahmad Sarji had presented a cheque of RM1mil to the Utusan Melayu Group Fund for the Malaysian Tsunami Disaster.

The group was represented by its executive chairman Tan Sri Hashim Makaruddin.

At the way things r doing at the moment.......I personally believe figures could go beyond 10 millions mark worldwide which I shall include possibility of disease breakout which will affect millions of ppls near to the affected areas.

As such, I beg for everyone participation n generosity in helping the victims and potential survivors. While everyone is bz figuring how to come up with the USJ/Subang Jaya Fund Raising..........I would like to ask for your quick response in donating small sums of foods, clothes n $$$ for the Tsunami Fund through various channel or fund already being set up. Pls act now since tens of thousands ppls is dying everyday through hunger, illness and lack of basic needs.

    USJ RA Tsunami Relief Fund

PC Yeoh has agreed to open an account under USJ RA and will complete the task by Monday, meaning which we will be operational on that day. I thank PC Yeoh and Jayan for their assistance on this matter.

Meanwhile, funds are already coming in from bloggers through a blogdrive that has been ongoing. Here for details.

This drive will end on the 15th, whereupon all monies collected will be handed over to the Red Crescent Society. You may choose to donate through other means, since there are so many sprouting up, we only urge you to donate what you can and provide a means to facilitate it through a neighbourhood channel that will be put to good use by the Red Crescent Society.

I can be contacted at 012-2157665 for details, please SMS as I am probably in a meeting with clients. You may also contact PC Yeoh as he is also in the know.

    Orchi, will you help too?

Re: USJ RA Tsunami Relief Fund

Right on brother. I am also organising a charity sale for the relief fund. First i need to collect some barang from my corporate clients then organise a padang to sell. All sales will not be cash transactions but a cheque or bank in to the USJ RA account, then goods may be collected.

But have to go to Papua New Guinea next week so need assistance. Any volunteers?
