Digital Gallery... a Sneak Preview

SNEAK PREVIEW

Webmaster Elho is experimenting with a Digital Gallery running on Open Source. If everything goes on well, we hope to launch this new service at the turn of the New Year.

As we are still testing the robustness of the engine, at the moment, we will only limit uploading of photo albums to the alpha testers.

In the mean time, please help us by browsing through some of the sample albums, and give us your kind feedback, while we try to figure out the Do's and Don't's of auto-posting... things like the payload of each photo's file size, and our insistence of non-offensive content - so that the new feature will bring more pleasures instead of nightmares to all USJ.community users.

Good job, Jeff and Elho. . Is it possible to list down/hv a column on what camera was used, the camera settings etc.(just like in dpchallenge)? This will help other photographers understand more about how the shot was taken/how to achieve that kinda of shot.

Ya, Dreamer. We will remind future Gallery updaters to list down their 'vital statistics' for each photo taken. That's a good way of sharing the shutterbug experience.

We are still twigging the Gallery engine to make it run smoothly.

Meanwhile, please peruse the slide presentation effects and speed that you can set to your liking... tell us your surfing experience.

Kewl! No problem loading and refresh.

However, I suggest the main page should display pictures of USJ/sj or USJ/sj events only. Members can open their own personal album or photo blog.

JEFF OOI says: Franky, good thoughts from you but might not be practical... and they might be too rigidly restrictive.

For example, a photoshoot outing by USJ.com reader Dreamer at Shah Alam or Cameron Highlands, or a work visit by Gina Phan to Bangladesh, and both of them get fresh catches on their digital cameras - if we restrict to USJ events, we will be denied many potentially stimulating gallery materials.

Secondly, this Gallery engine has the capacity to run in numerous thematic channels - from USJ events to external visits by USJ travellers. We are only limited by our own imagination. So, we will exploit to the fullest what technology enables us, and at the same time, we will push the envelopes the furthest we can when it comes to FREEDROM for expression, whether in photographic presentation or just thoughts.

We need to be consistent in things we do, and to continue setting examples for Internet acculturation.

We can also work with some photo shop to orders prints via the site (possible). Fuji Film have a website that does this.

Sorry, we can't squeeze too much out of the engine. As you know, we can't reverse engineer such products. All the pics that appear will be posted by members. We are getting there already and we (the admin)` should be starting some channels soon. As it stands now, users may subscribe to the gallery and once the admin logs you in, you will be able to post to the channels.

We will experiment as we go along.
