Km302 Of North-South Highway Closed After Landslide
IPOH, Oct 11 (Bernama) -- The North-South Highway at Km302 near Gua Tempurung had to be closed following a landslide on the highway at 7.35pm Monday night.
Kampar OCPD Supt Mohd Fauzi Arshad said that following the landslide, motorists on both lanes of the highway heading north and south had been diverted to the federal road at Tapah for those going north and Gopeng for those heading south.
He said there was a possibility that there were vehicles trapped in the landslide and police personnel were carrying out a search and rescue operations for possible victims.
Meanwhile Works Minister Datuk Seri Samy Vellu said Projek Lebuhraya Utara Selatan (PLUS) personnel were making preparations to clear the debris.
He said clearing works could not be carried out immediately due to heavy rain.
However, he said, there had not been any report of vehicles being trapped under the debris so far.
This is the second time that a landslide had occurred on Km 302 of the North-South Highway with the first incident in January 1996 about 10 kilometres away from the present site.
Another case of "Divine Intervention"?
or a case of the slopes not being inspected regularly?
Now human lives are involved. Hope all can be rescued in time.
