The wounds shown by her is plausible to be self inflicted. It is just the matter of whether that person has a high treshhold of pain or the pain is worth the gain. It all boils down to what is there to gain. So far RM 30,000 or equivalent to 7 years salary is worth the pain to a simple farmer's daughter. God knows how much more to come. Just like the Norita and Canny Ong case, nobody can imagine the kind of cross examination that are done by the defence counsels. So do expect a twist of event when the victim breaks down under heavy attack. Here, we must be careful of what we comment and don't overstep the line of contempt as this case is now in court. The defence is definitely interested who is the unconfirmed source of KH EE's posting and also what he says here as this will help in their argument. May justice prevail.

    Actually I agree with PCY.

If this becomes true under cross examination by defence lawyers -just imagine the implications for our media groups, the politicians and the YB yada yada yada who have all been falling over each other to grab some political limelight thru this episode.

They would look totally stupid and foolish!

The Venucular newspapers - tak payah cakap lah we know where they come from!

joker2107, since ur nick includes "joker", i take what u wrote as a joke!

since when stuffs at a forum can be used in a court of law? the earlier bazz-cassa thingy established that the forum moderators r not responsible 4 postings at the forum but any take on posters on the forum?

    if i can't "sembang2x" & "borak2x" at this forum, where can i go to?

in the spirit of the forum's dna, "independent, neutral & responsible", i leave it at this.

dis letter was sent 2 a couple of newspaper in respond 2 statements attributed 2 the minister of hr's as reported by the star.

    ---------

I refer to the articles, KL, Jakarta to sign MoU on maids (The Star, 20th May 2004, page 12) and Maid agents to be accountable (The Star, 31st May 2004, page 3).

In one statement, it is said that there are about 100,000 Indonesians working in the country. In the new statement, it is acknowledged that 57,000 maids ran away from their employers in the last four years. Can this is analysed to imply that not less than 25% of maids become illegal imigrants?

The problem of run away maids is far from new, obviously not as young as the four years used for the statistics provided. After penalising hapless and frustrated employers for so long, we now have a Cabinet minister coming out to blame Jakarta and the agents for the happening. It seems that the Government is perfectly happy with the present routine of victimised employers making a police report for formality and cancelling the work permit of the run away maid.

It is so very discouraging that an elected representative of the Malaysian people could put the electoral so low as to suggest that run away maids were merely an expensive inconvenience and possible cause of social problems. I am sure every other Malaysian knows that every persona-non-gratia immigrant poses a threat to our national security. It is a mockery of the defences of our boundaries. Monetary loss and inconveniences are painful, but a shaming of our motherland is hardly a pill to swallow or garbage to sweep under the carpet. What then is the purpose and meaning of the hastily implemented National Service programme if not the urgency to inculcate appreciation of the soils we toil on?

I am ashamed through and through to know that there is absolutely nothing done by the authorities concerned with national security when maids run away. We have been letting it go on and on and granting amnesty every now and then to legitimise the wrong. I can only interpret such a practice to be an open invitation to perpetuate the misdemeanour, and figures have proven me very right.

When an Indonesian absconds from her legitimate employer in Malaysia, it is entirely a Malaysian problem. It is up to Malaysia whether to let it pass or to investigate and stop the rot. It is nothing to do with Jakarta. We cannot fault Jakarta if we have been condoning the crime. Malaysia must be seen to be doing something serious to arrest the problem instead of pointing fingers. This is not just a human resource problem It must involve national security people who have to date been defeaningly silent or missing in action.

Discarding the covers, it would not be far from wrong to suggest that there are syndicates involved in the disappearance of maids. It would be preposterous to suggest that the majority of the 57,000 run aways made their own arrangements to renege on their contracts. Especially not when the majority of them are first time visitors and hardly literate.

It is also a disgrace that the Minister should suggest that the holding of travel documents and bonds could check the problem. It is open market knowledge that when maids run away, the only things they take with them are the clothes on their back. And our pride. Travel documents do not mean much to them. Rarely do they depart with assets, not their own, not their employers'. Wages owed to them by their employers are no incentive for them to stay put.

The statements attributed to the Human Resources Minister reek of ignorance, mischief and gross irresponsibility. If the policies implied by the offending statements are indeed the the official position of the administration which the said Minister serves, we can forget about a Malaysia for Malaysians. We can kiss Vision 2020 good riddance. We might as well revisit history and reinitiate Malindo or have a pact akin the European Union.

Just last year itself, some 17,000 ran away at a rate of 46 a day. From the 4 years record, the situation is getting bad to worst. If there are 100,000 maids now, this means that your chances of your maid eloping is 1 out of 5 since I expect in 2004, the figure will hit the 20,000 mark. If you are one of the victims, you can imagine the havoc it causes your family. Since Datuk Fong is the Minister of Human Resources, he should know how many man hours were lost and not forgetting property or valuables. I know of a case where the family was simply helpless as all their lives, they evolved around the maid. She became so indispensible. I think the whole thing should be re look starting with the maid agencies and no amount of MOU signed will solve the problem. The And with the recent high profile cases, in Hokkien, these maids will not hesitate to "pek lu eh toh kak teng pang sai" (go up your head and **** there).

I don't hv a maid & I did forsee certain probs in having a maid, so me & mrs. managed to work out schedules to fit in the family. On saturdays an Indon lady will clean the house for rm40 (abt 3-4 hrs). We do our own dishes & laundry.

We leave our 2 kids at different daycare centres until 6-7pm & if it's a s'gor public holiday, one of us will hv to take leave to care for the kids as both of us r working in KL region. It's good to hv a whole day with the kids - QUALITY time-lah!

It's nearly a year since that incident and everything is so quiet these days.

I am wondering aloud what is the latest news.

Has the wife taken to court yet?

    What is the outcome?

    Thanks

NOW somebody tell me if this is a sure sign of the Immigration Dept's lack of attention or apathy to rules....

Every other day when I am at the KLIA, I see these domestic helpers' come in... and when you look at the faces, one can clearly see that half of them are hardly out of their teens... much less 25 year. Sometimes these teen DH's goes thru cultural shocks and sometimes the employer goes thru it... so who's to blame... one can be a professional this or that, but an inhuman being when handling or dealing with a DH.

I have a Domestic Helper (I won't use the word MAID) for the fact that she is a great help in the house - We respect her as a person and an individual and she respects us as her employer. Imagine, my neighbor envy us because our domestic help ... now how?

It all boils down to MUTUAL RESPECT.

10 years later, this is the news:-

KUALA LUMPUR: Former Indonesian maid Nirmala Bonat could not breastfeed her two sons due to injuries to her breasts inflicted by her ex-employer, the High Court heard on Monday.

I wonder how long this case will drag on

Problem is that people pay big bucks to maids agencies who cannot guarantee that the maids are capable of doing the job. The maid is then expected to do wonders as the people who employ her expects to get their money's worth. Most agencies do not train these maids and you have to do it yourself. The result...the maid forgets, under performs...and the frustrated woman of the house takes it on the maid. It's like buying an expensive product and finding that it is not what you expect it to be. My neighbour also scolds her maid everyday and I used to advise her...but that is all my interference. We don't feel their frustration but we have no right to treat another human being like a slave.

'Yim is currently serving her 12-year jail term for causing grevious hurt to Nirmala in 2004. The hearing continues Monday.'

Any competent psychiatrist, on evaluating her, and anyone with knowledge
of child and adolescent psychology as well, would conclude without doubt
that this was a clear-cut case of self-harm, extremely common among
adolescent girls of the 15 - 24 age group.

They put away an innocent woman for the past ten years, and are adamant
in keeping her away for quite a few more, despite independent expert forensic
and even prosecution witness testimonies validating the above mental disorder.

A consequence of a legal system without any jury and entirely dependent
upon the wills and fancies of judges ill-informed on adolescent psychology.

That was why I had no interest during my younger years in taking up law
as a career in this country, particularly criminology.
