Question Waste of funds on traffic light timer ?

Do you think that by installing a timer counter would reduce traffic congestion .
Other than a sheer waste of funds , this idea of telling you that you have to wait another 50 seconds really does'nt help to
speed up response to clear traffic . Don't know if it is to be install in all traffic junction other than the usj4-usj2 junction. Another avenue to pay out $$$
    to someone , I suppose ?? . Any comments ?

    Watch Out!

    Hey Folks,

Everybody would be watching the "timer" clicking..down, Nobody is watching the traffic or the "roads"....?

What would they be thinking of next to install...A "TIMER" BOMB!

i dont see anything wrong with the timers - i like them

i like to know that in 10 secs the light will turn amber. then i can judge whether i should slow down early, if i totally cannot make it.
( i know if i say then i know whether or not to tekan the gas, you all sure whack me one)

and i guess if i have a countdown to know when the light will be green, it also helps. In today's world, everything is about time. People don't like waiting. Patience might be a virtue, but people wanna know exactly how much patience they need to have!

although i still think mpsj should first concentrate on fixing the sensors at the traffic lights. i think all of subang jaya's lights have sensors, so that if there's no traffic at the other queues, you will get your turn quickly. But most of these sensors seem to have spoilt, and the lights are defaulting to maximum green duration for all lanes. very frustrating.

For the newbies, it is excuseable but for those of you who were reading this Forum way back when Jeff highlighted how advanced Melaka was to have timers at traffic lights, do remember that almost everyone went gaa-gaa over it and wiondered when such an innovation would come to USJ/SJ! Now it is here, let us give MPSJ a pat on the back for trying their best to make it better for the drivers.

It is very easy to say that public expenditures are done to line someone's pockets. Don't fly off the handle so quick. If you have evidence, please reveal, don't back stab without substance. In the meantime, give credit when it is due.

I think the timer is good

    Hi peeps,

I think the timer is good cos it manages my expectations well at a traffic light. Sometimes, when the traffic light doesnt switch, you can see a few people trying to barge their way past a red light and resulting in a chain of hosile reaction. Finally, the traffic is deadlocked.

The timer not only manages the expectation of the motorists but also enures that the traffic lights are not faulty.

Myself, I'd prefer 2 sets of systems.

1st is the timer-based for daytime traffic, where traffic is equally heavy from all directions of the junction.

Come low-traffic hours, a 2nd system (smart traffic lights) where sensors are used to detect vehicles should be used to reduce unnecessary waiting time at an empty junction.

Combination of both would be a killer-app! :P

I notice that lately all the traffic light timer displays installed in USJ traffic lights have been removed. Anyone know why they have been removed? I think it is a good thing to have as you would know how long before the light is going to change.

The digital timer at the traffic lights is good to have. I'm all for it. Unfortunately it's not working of late. What happens? Has the Authority decdided to do away or is it broken down?

i agree that it is good to have the timer...to allow drivers to plan how much time they have left either while it is Green or Red. but seem like the quality is not very good that i see it not working in USJ/Subang more often than it is working

I think those were sponsored or trial basis during last state government here. I observed they were hardly maintained, left to work till it went kaput. I may be wrong though.
I'd like those timers to be installed. I think it does prevent many from beating the traffic lights. There's still many sane and law abiding drivers on the road, not all are traffic light beaters.

I like the timer, lets you know whether you've got enough time to send an sms to a friend or smtn haha!

chill out ppl, it's just a timer , don't be going all berserk on going like ' omg omg wasting money omg noooo ' , sorry but yea that's what i feel, no offence but please stop complaining , it's just a timer. I'm sure there are better issues to highlight about.

The timer counter is an excellent idea. It allows motorists to speed past the junction before the light turns red!

The point is that whether spending on this timer is more important or higher priority than spending on a more intelligent traffic controller. I know it may cool your nerves a bit but it does not reduce your time wasted , like a sitting duck , stuck there unnecessary.

xweird got it right to the point there and if they were to improve on the intelligence , then every one will benefit.

    I also like the timer

From far I can see how many seconds left before turning red so I can estimate weather to speed or not without caught in the middle of red light.
