Angry Another Woman Attacked In Subang Jaya!

    A CASSA ALERT SEPTEMBER 13TH 2003
    -------------------------------------------------

On Monday September 8th at around 5 55 a.m. a young 28 year old woman was a victim of a savage robbery attempt that left the woman with severe bruises all over her body!

The incident took place at SS14 in Subang Jaya as the woman awaited for her bus to work.

A vehicle, a blue Proton Wira Sedan with registered number BFN5798 with three Indian men aged between 20 to 30 years of age stopped in front of the woman. One of them got out and grabbed her handbag. When the young woman resisted, the individual went back to the car, and took out a wooden rod and assaulted her while two others sat in the said vehicle.

Despite receiving a savage beating, she refused to hand over her handbag and fought back and the arrival of the bus with the driver horning prevented further injuries of a "worst kind" to this woman.

I am advised that this incident like several other cases made known to me by grassroot community leaders and residents was not reported.

When I met the said victim at her residence in Subang Jaya yesterday, I was shocked and saddened at the extend of her injuries and enquired why she had not made any police report, to which she answered that she had “absolutely no confidence in either the police or the effectiveness of police reports!”

She refered to a statement of the PJ Police deputy Chief thretening a e-mail sender with "penal santions" who alerted the public on a rape incident in Subang Jaya which at that time was also unreported and claimed to be a "hoax" by the police!

It is now confirmed that the incident did actually take place! And the PJ police deputy chief has alot of explaining to do let alone issue an immediate apology without fail!

In my humble opinion this police statement has damaged the image of the police further!

Damage control efforts must now be put into action and I will do my part in bringing this incident to the attention of the office of the deputy premier and home minister without fail!

If a victim wishes to refrain to report a crime we should ask sincerely why is this so?

Perhaps too the likes of the PJ deputy chief should do the same and take the necessary actions to facilitate a change in the communities’ mindset and perceptions towards the police rather than issue threats on E-Mail senders alerting a e-savvy communities of attacks against women and crime in general which only worsens the situation further.

In the public interest, I have decided to highlight this incident in both the CASSA Website at: http://cassa.org.my/ and in the Subang Jaya community website.

If the Petaling Jaya deputy Chief Assistant Commissioner Hassan Abdul Rahman is serious about his threat as it appeared in the Malay Mail report of 12th September on page 7 to charge individuals of "rumour mongering" under the Computer Crime Act which carries a jail sentence, fine or both upon conviction, I now challenge him to now charge me also with “rumour mongering” for informing/alerting the community of another attack against a defenceless woman under the Computer Crimes Act as at the time of this statement there is still no police report made by this victim!

We enclose herewith a statement by Mr. S.R of Malacca, father to a former 17 year old pre medical student in one of Subang Jaya colleges who was also a victim of attempted robbery and physical abuse.

" CASSA and Dr. Jacob George a sincere thank you for highlighting this incident so another student can be protected.

My daughter was a premedical student in one of Subang Jaya colleges. She is physically big for her age and used to rent a room in SS15 area from where she used to walk to the college. One afternoon as she walked towards her college a motocyclist stopped before her alighted and dragged her towards the back lanes of SS15 homes where there was a parked Proton Wira with three other men. There was loud music coming from the said vehicle that silenced the screams of my daughter as she was dragged towards the said vehicle. She fought back but it was in vain. Her gold chain was taken. Luckily for her two other motorcyclist came by and on seeing them the men drove off leaving my daughter bleeding. With Dr. George assisting I made a police report in Subang Jaya.

I contacted Dr. George from Malacca and he immediately assisted me to make a police report and also arranged for Malay Mail reporters to be at the station to publish this matter which they did.

The police officers at the station did also confirm that it was true that they were aware of the increasing crime and attacks against women but was ill equipped in terms of manpower to cover the geographical area which continues to grow unimpeded bringing with it the various problems like robberies and other serious crimes!

I am saddned to hear of this rape case involving a college student and the attack against this 28 yer old woman which has left her severely bruised

I hope something will be done soon"

My wife, daughters and I are really upset at what is becoming of Subang Jaya. Robberies, rape, murder, assaults, dan macam macam lagi. Now the guiness record breaking jams are not just the problem but serious crimes. What can we do to protect our women and property? Incidentally, are there other reports of similar cases that have gone unreported?
Perhaps, CASSA can take the lead here and assist. I as usual will volunteer my services.

Sad to know what our society has degraded itself to. Is this the fruit of success or progress?

It also speaks about the level of social responsibility the ppl of SJ/USJ have towards these things. At 5.55am, I'm pretty sure there were cars plying on that way. Why weren't there anyone who stopped to help the victim? I'm sure someone saw that thing happen.

Sure, times are bad, economy is down, companies retrenching staffs, there are more ppl without a job and blah blah blah. Crime rates have plumated but it sure doesn't mean we can't do our bit to help curb or stop one from occuring. I don't mean to sound like a saint here but I have watched ppl drive by slowly to catch a glimpse of what is happening rather than to stop their vehicle and put a stop to what is happening.

If we can stop our car and scare these culprits, I think daylight robberies by roadside can be reduced. When you stop, the guy behind will, and so will the rest.

In the past, my parents have always asked me not to get involved whenever there is crime. Why get killed for someone you don't know? I guess the best one can do in this circumstance is to honk the car non-stop like the bus driver did. But I too have this fear of Indian thugs (not a racist statement. ok it is.) from the news you get from the damages they have done in the past at Old Klang Road.

'ANOTHER WMOAN ATTACKED IN SUBANG JAYA! - Another e-mail feedback posted with the readers permission! This is translated from Bahasa Malaysia

" I praise the Almightly that we have brave strong women who are willing to fight back to protect their right and honor from these thugs. I praise the Almighty that her life was spared despite receiving a brutal beating. While I may not be as brave as this sister was, if I was in similar position, her reaction and example inspires me and other sisters to do the same! We must show these thugs we fear them no more. God Willing there will be a uproar over these attacks and that in future members of the public who witness such incidences will come forward to help those in need as the next time it may be their mother, wife, sister or daughter! ANOTHER WOMAN ATTACKED IN SUBANG JAYA - AN UPDATE!

Below ps find a few notes from Ms.SS who was the victim of a brutal attack on the 8th of September 2003 at SS14 at 5 55 a.m.

" Just want to say thank you to Dr. Jacob George of CASSA, Mr. Jeff Ooi & friends at USJ.Com.My and all for exposing this matter from the bottom of my heart!

I want to specially thank the bus driver who honked and flashed his lights on that morning which saved me from further harm or even death as my assailants took off immediately when this was done.

We have had countless incidents - the late Canny Ong, the poor girl who was raped a few days ago also in Subang Jaya and it is important that our community stand by each other and against these predators and show them clearly, by force, if necessary that these attacks on women will not be tolerated! That they have no breeding ground in Subang Jaya or any where else!

I share the incident of another friend who had gone to withdraw from the ATM recently, only to be stabbed when she put up a fight and resisted handing over her handbag.

The culprit was chased by onlookers and caught - he was a teenager!

And my friend was lucky that the knife just missed her vital organs by fractions!! She is still in hospital. Please let us do something together to make our country and homes safe!

Victim- Ms. SS of Subang Jaya"

Thank you SS for these words - we trust it will serve as a reminder and facilitate a community coming together to fight this growing menace.

Those were words of the victim.

The bus driver role in this matter. This is a good deed indeed. Straight ambil tindakan - bagus. Usually, people do not get involved - takut.

Perhaps, our friends Dr. Jacob & Co of CASSA can find siapa bus driver ini and organize a reward lah. Boleh Kah?
