    Book by its cover.

This is one book where it can be judged by its cover and author. Here is one chapter from TAR to THO. And the rest is Sejarah Hari Ini http://www.scmp.com/week-asia/opinio...ysian-pm-tunku

Yesterday and today, my favorite papers were flooded with 2 full-page report/summary of his memoir.

Interesting to read although it is a translation... but I am more interested to read what he didn't say, not what he said in his memoir..

Will get his memoir once it releases here in Dec. If not available for whatever f#^@# reason, will get the book from Singapore or HK in Jan next year....

From some body parts of the book where it goes like this...........

Orang Cina are simply the most amazing economic ants on earth.

The transplanted Cina were born entrepreneurs. The bulk of the overseas Cina in Southeast Asia have their roots in the coastal towns and villages of Fujian and Guangdong provinces – and these have been blessed with some of the best entrepreneurial genes in the world. They came very hungry and eager as immigrants, often barefooted and wearing only singlets and trousers. They would do any work available, as an honest income meant they could have food and shelter. Chinese entrepreneurs are efficient and cost-conscious. When they search for foreign hardware and expertise, they know how to drive hard bargains. They work harder than anyone else and are willing to “eat bitterness”, as the Cina say.

Majority of Pendatang Cina are moral and ethical people who practice fair play and possess a sense of proportion. I will concede that if they are totally penniless, they will do almost anything to get their first seed capital. But once they have some capital, they try very hard to rise above their past and advance their reputations as totally moral, ethical businessmen.

A few bad apples or a couple of Chou Dan

Mr Kuok concluded with this: “Now, before I finish, I want to state one strong caveat. Some of these overseas Chinese will become very big crooks, and if you let them run rampant they could ruin your nation.

Why were these people allowed to wreak havoc? Because the leaderships have been weak. If the leaders were strong, all these devils would have disappeared overnight. Singapura had the same number of Chinese crooks, but you try and find one today. They are all hidden, camouflaged, or dormant. The crooks were held on steel leashes by two iron hands: Lee Kuan Yew’s left hand and right hand. With the unsavoury elements under control, look what Singapore has been able to accomplish by harnessing the energies of the overseas Chinese.

"Other countries however have thier hands tied or go in hand in hand from Jho Low of 1MBD to George Tan of BMF fiascos." iSayman

This is what Robert Kuok said ..........on MISC which was set to become a major shipping company in making. http://www.scmp.com/week-asia/opinio...d-what-genghis

What he did not said he was actually involved in the negotiation of blood money from the Japanese war crimes. Not only he was an authority in negotiating but fluent in Japanese.

And what he did not said at all, after selling his part of MISC at the Gomen request because it was a goose that is laying golden eggs, MISC cease the shipping container operation entirely in 2011.

And the rest is history where he was asked to sell his sugar biz which earned him the titled of Sugar King recently. He was supposely to be dethroned with the Sugar King title with the sales but somehow kept the title with his wiz and foresight with Indo and Downunder overnite operation.

And it has had been an open secret that part of the economic China success begins with President Deng inviting him to be the advisor where he remains unassumingly till today to President Xi. This also he did not said.

Though he own a large media company, he shunned publicity and seldom gives press interviews or blow his own trumpet. Only until now he is writing his memoir to get the stories off his chest at ripe age.

In fact, a busy body like me who loves to cook stories I did not know much about his doings until I was told by my Hongkies friends couple of years back.

This is one of the rare interview by China TV

Not true... every era is different.

Due to the lack of education of the Chinese immigrants at that time, the only way to get out from poverty is to work hard, accumulate some money and then run a small business. Irrespective of their wealth, they will do their very best to support their children education with the hope that their children don't need to go thru the same curve like them. Those who made it in business will donate money to build schools and this is the origin of many Chinese schools. Mr. Robert being born in a wealth family and with elite english education cannot see this.

When life is better for the next generations who later emigrated to other western countries due to the discriminative affirmative policies, very few of them venture into business, let alone make it in business in their new place unlike their ancestors in Malaya last time. Most are the educated middle-class in their newly adopted countries, some are just the so so "neither-here-nor there" over there.

I am never the type to read bios or memoirs.... simply because it is a one sided story. Plus the mind is a fickle thing. Cannot remember exactly what is said, but can write down exactly what transpired like 50 years ago?

nonetheless, can be a good entertaining story telling like romance of the three kingdoms or official sanctioned history textbook.

btw, so far from all media reports, Robert Kuok only talk abt his interactions with leaders who are no longer around. Is this on purpose?

Robert Kuok did reviewed about his interactions with the living subjects in his book naming people from Tan Koon Swan to Ling Liong Sik.

It has been a long patience where he revealed interactions which Gomen policies which has had cause the chains of reaction to the present economic situation. MISC shipping container biz gone taupau to UMBC gone with the wind after takeover.

And in the above video posted earlier, he could recollect the events how he corner the sugar market to help China in sugar shortage and how he needed to build the Beijing convention center.

Robert Kuok and Lee Kuan Yew are the same rare spices where thier minds are razor sharp despite the age .

Many write bios or memoirs where it can be best seller to make some extra dough......This is true from lists of US Presidents where they become overnight millionaires after leaving white house. Some people have remarkable memory and Robert Kuok is probably a few of them where he can recollect accountable events. My Principal from St Michael Institution is one of them who could remember the names of thousand of pupils after years leaving the school. I was surprised he could address my name in full when I met him 5 years after school though I have just a few interaction with him. I was not awarded with public recognition like sport medals, academic achievements or friday assembly canning awards.

The only person who can forget at will would be Apanama lekas lupa doktor where he could get away to remember and forget at will when questioned in the court hearing.
