    Yes, you are not wrong...

During my early days slogging under the hot sun at Malaysian waters, I witnessed this trick often.

Some of the foreign “rough necks” (american, brits, italian, etc) will take 5-7 days off when approaching the end of certain month. They will go to Singapore and then come back. [Rough neck is a general term for those who do hard physical work at the rig)

They entered this country as tourist but worked illegally. They were in high demand for that kind of specialized physical job, not enough locals who can handle that kind of job at that time. They exited the country and re-entered again after the alllowable period for tourist expired.

I remembered vividly two fellas (one italian and one polish-american) always wanted me to help them preparing detonator used for well tubing perforation. This is a dangerous job and I am sure they think I am good candidate to take advantage because I am young and is an Asian. On one fine day when I was in a chopper with them going back to the base, I told them I will report them to Petronas for abusing their entry conditions. Since then, they are as nice as my little pet dog. I asked them to mop the deck, they mopped. I asked them to carry the “sonde”, they happily oblighed.

Why they are so nice to me …. must be good $$$$, or not able to get such job in their home country !!

Earning RM12k per month by picking fruits. Thumbs up… !!

I always have respect for people who work hard during their younger days especially those who go far away from home/family, embraced loneliness in their pursuit of money and have to bear all sorts challenges in the attempt to earn a better income. My advice to them is - should know when to stop and start doing something which is sustainable. Don’t end up like some people here in usj/sj who have to complain day and night about wantan mee is expensive, plain water is not free when they are old folks…

I think the only reason for such influx to pick fruits is the stronger currency exchange and this can happen to all sorts of job including job/career that people dream for. During my short stay at Sagamihara , I met two non-japanese there, one finance guy who was posted by the far east branch in HK and an indonesian engineer from Jakarta office.

Me and the Hongkee practically whacked every single cents of the allowance money in the local bars and restaurants during the weekend but the indonesian fella never wanted to join us, not even one single time. He is not a muslim, nothing to do with food/drinks restriction. One day, I politely asked him what is the fxxxing reason he didn’t want to go out ?? The answer is shocking but reasonable – he told me if he saved all the allowance money during the 9 months stay there, he is able to settle his house loan in Jakarta.. !! [The daily allowance is USD50. All meals, beer/wine/sake/whisky, hotel & travelling expenses covered during weekdays. If chose to live and eat in dormitory on weekend, practically zero expenses needed.]

Just another example of how people earn money (by not picking fruits).

Agreed totally but people born with a 'golden spoon' will never understand such situation.

BTW, that Malaysian with a 3 months working visa but chosed to stay 2 years will be banned for 5 years only. He can always reapply to come back to pick fruits after that.

He may not be so lucky in other countries.

Some countries will prosecute those who overstayed without valid document and prison is the only place waiting for them (one month or one week does not make any difference, the record is tarnished). Even without jail term but straight deportation, with such bad records on the passport, the person may loose ALL his future opportunities to pursue education/employment/holidays in other countries.

That is what I mean earlier - should know when to stop. Don't play play with immigration law especially for young people...

Talking about Visa abuses in Oz, here are some news for thought.

In 2011, Australia was home to 60,000 illegal immigrants mainly British and Americans.

One in three visa overstayers have been in the country 10 years or more.

    Read all about it here:-

    https://www.pri.org/stories/2011-11-...cans-so-wheres

5 or 6 years later, in 2017, things change very fast.

We now have about 64,000 illegal immigrants. 4,000 more than in 2011. Why? You tell me.

More than 70 per cent of the total 64,000 illegals overstayed their visas and as many 20,000 illegal residents are thought to be working.

Student visas abuse account for 15 per cent of the over-stayers and people who came on working holiday visas made up just 3 per cent.

Immigration officials said they were aware one person has evaded them for about 40 years and he is still out there.

Malaysians are reported to be the worst offenders, with 9,440 citizens from the southeast Asian nation in Australia on expired visas as of June 30 2017, Department of Immigration and Border Protection figures reportedly show.

PRC nationals were second highest with 6,500, with the US accounting for 5,710 overstayers while surprisingly only 3,680 Britons were said to be living in Australia as unlawful non-citizens.

Indonesia, India, South Korea, Philippines, Vietnam and Thailand all had between 2200 and 2800 people living in Australia illegally.

Germany, France, Japan and Fiji were also noted on the list of top offending nationals.

Now why are so many over staying?

Size is not the excuse. When enforcement is strict, people think twice before violating the law.

Australia expect tourists to be honest and trustworthy.

For example, in Quarrantine, if you declare you have no prohibited foods, they believe you and Borders Protective Staffs will not physically check every item in your luggage but they send your luggages and have them x ray.

Now if they found you carry meats, eggs, excessive cash, etc you are in deep troubles...fine can be very very heavy

I understand you are allowed to reapply after 5 years but whether approve or not is another matter.

Hahahahaha, that explains why there were '9,440 Malaysians Visa Overstayers' or small-time business-like Malaysian-tourists in Kangaroo land as at June 2017

    Malaysian Boleh.

BTW, I was told because of these over 9,000 over-staying Malaysians, you can not apply to enter Australia On-Line any more.

You need to go for interview. Don't know true or not.
