I think the start-up costs plus other costs for this café would be in the region of few hundreds thousands, not sure whether there is an upfront franchising fee...

The Secret Recipe cake and café chain at Taipan also closed down not too long ago. The irrecoverable franchise start-up fee costs a bomb !!

Chinese restaurants in SJ/USJ also getting lesser and lesser. In fact, the only one left that looks like a Chinese restaurant is Imperial China (Tai Thong). Having said that, last time (only 2-3 years ago), I have to make reservation for dim sum on Sunday. There is no need to make reservation now, I can always get my favorite table next to the floor-to-ceiling windows, and it’s hardly full house whenever I go there…

Sad you you mention, many franchise going kaput. Why? is it no backup support and promotion after taking the franchise money? . Heard Paparich franchise fees in Ozland is Aus.$3mil.

There is no success formula to run a business, it always carries risks. Generally, I think not many people can afford $$$ of few hundreds thousand to few millions for “trial and error” in business. Irrespective whether the business is funded by borrowing or savings, it is still tons of financial consequences after the business fails.

Talk about franchisng, I think the biggest reason why people wanted to venture into this business is to become richer, maybe 1% to 2% is for pastime/interest. But then again, why people want to become richer as the start-up costs is definately not for those who are not rich ?? After becoming "richer", can this have any significant diffrence of their present lifestyle especailly after taking so much risks and time commitment ??

For the reason above, I have respect for people who venture into this business especially those who want to do it (not because they have to do it)….

buy roasted beans (as freshly roasted as possible) and then grind the amount required only when you need. this way can maintain the aroma longer.
