Yes correct. By the way, their table water are just direct from the kitchen tap. Not necessarily filtered and definitely not boiled water as here. Water is safe to drink off the tap (at least in Melbourne)

I've lived in rural Pahang during the 70's. Piped water was a luxury back then. Most folks drew water from the river or well then boiled it but unfiltered. A glass of plain water offered to you still looked murky. Didn't hear of anyone dying or gravely ill from it and it was a norm there till piped water was available them much later on after the late 80s. From KL to rural Pahang at that time was like step back in time 30 years. Not to mention, most bathed in the nearby river (if living next to river).

Life is good there. Food is cheap. Weather is amazing. Gentlemen Clubs. But...yes there is a "but". It's best to learn how to DIY things like plumbing, painting etc., as services such as those are costly But I digress.

Repair services are not getting cheaper anymore here at Malaysia, even if simple job like replacing a washer at a leaky tap or clearing some blockage. Prices of home renovation works have shot up in recent times. Of course some people are never concerned for obvious reasons and some cleverly self source some cheapest foreign labor to carry out trivial work. Otherwise labor and material costs have all gone up in recent times. Perhaps one day in future there will not exist jobs based on lump sum but on materials + man hours + logistics + tax. This + this + that +this that + 4 hours@ Rm80/hour + transport + GST = Rm XXX!

At most restaurants in Melbourne, there are free glass bottles of water for all. Take as many as you wish. There is no need to order drinks if you so desire. Our greedy restaurant owners/hawkers should learn from them.

The tap water here have to be filtered and/or boiled before it is safe for drinking. Tap water in some countries is safe to drink directly like Australia, Japan, Switzerland etc.

I believe our "greedy" restaurant owners/hawkers will emulate them when you ask for a bottle/glass of tap water.

Alternatively, for the sake of free drinking water, take as much as you like directly from the washroom/kitchen tap for drinking...

This is ok ... but what detest me is people like to think everything they encountered in a foreign place is better than here WITHOUT knowing what contributed to the difference …

I started to notice this like to blame mindset from these so-called “educated middle class folks ” here after reading an interesting post years ago. Someone shared his experience when he was in Spain during a business trip. (Seriously and honestly, I mean someone, just this particular someone because I can’t remember his nick, and also to avoid other sensitive fella who is not this someone to jump at me !!)

He was in a car driven by his colleague and he reckoned the Euro4 petrol there was really a good boast to the car performance. He then started to blame what kind of inferior petrol we are using here as petrol in this land was not even near Euro2, etc, etc.

Not sure whether is fortunate or unfortunate, I happened to know a little bit about fuel and therefore I am aware that his comment about fuel standard was nothing but crap. The design criteria for fuels from lower grade (Euro2, Euro3) to higher grade (Euro4, Euro5) are primarily focused on the objectives of cleaner air and greener environment, it has nothing to do with increasing the engine performance. If the cleaner fuels (less toxic gases like NOx, CO and lesser harmful contaminants like benzene and sulphur) can result in higher combustion efficiency which contribute to higher power output, this is a bonus on top of the primary objectives of cleaner environment.

Most people just like to blame (this include people who have higher education).They can't even use common sense to evaluate logically the situation.

I guess sometimes, I am right..

My friend overheard an Aussie saying he would like to settle here . Actually, why not? He bring over a million and instantly it becomes three million. Malaysian grass can be green too.


Just to stay on topic. There is also instant Vietnamese coffee. It is quite good. My son was given several boxes by his friend. Inside the box are sachets, one sachet to make one cup.

Tried it once in a restaurant but didn't like the taste. Guess I'm an old fashioned traditional coffee drinker. If only I weren't a shy man, I'd drink coffee off its saucer plate! Thanks for the recommendation, anyway. Should I give it a try again, I'll post the verdict here.

What milk do you use? Condensed milk or creamer? Anyway, this is odd. Somehow when I prepare Nescafe at home, it'll never taste the same as when I drink it at the coffee shop! Next time must go have a peep and see what condensed milk/evaporated brand the kopitiams use

Talking about coffee from Nestle, I have a Nespresso machine and dozens of espresso capsules idling on a table behind my desk in office.

My colleague retired about 2 years ago and he left the Nespresso machine there. He told me to take care of this machine because one day he will be back to collect it !! I know he is joking...

I'm not a big fan of espresso, once or twice in a month I will use the machine when I'm just too freaking lazy to walk to my favourite cafè.

I will post a picture tomorrow when I'm free...
