    Factor Theorem and Cubic Equation

This is Singapore O level Additional Mathematics.

For this example question, anyone knows why 0=8+k when comparing coefficients of x2 ?

I know now... it is simply because

    1. There is no x2 on the LHS, hence the coefficient is zero.

    2. On the RHS, if multiply (x+2) with (4x2 + kx + 3), you will get 8x2 and kx2, therefore it is 8 +k

p/s : I am getting older now... need more brain exercise, I guess...

Yes, Singapore and Malaysia shared the same academic ancestor, the UK syllabus. For secondary school, the assessment is the O level Examination in the fifth year of secondary school (it is called Y11 in UK, Sec 5 in Singapore and Form 5 in Malaysia).

The difference is the level of difficulty and this is depend on individual country. Singapore seems to have the tougher demand on their student. The reason I said this is they start to teach Add. Math to Sec 3 students whereas Malaysia students study Add Math in Form 4.

Don't know and don't bother to know also

The objective of getting Singapore syllabus books in science and math is for my kid to have revision materials written in English on these subjects .

Malaysia don't have good guide books on science and maths written in English. His school text books and materials on science and maths is too simple for him..

Maybe you can tell me why this Singapore O level Add Maths got a " Latest MOE Syllabus" at the right bottom of the cover page??
