Fook Moon Restaurant at SS18 also closed shop about 2 weeks ago. The HK owner said it is difficult to run a Chinese food business in neighborhood like SJ, maybe Puchong is a better place.
I agreed with him. Quite a substantial number of the Chinese residents in this neighborhood are ocbc who either don't know how to appreciate Chinese cuisne or think Chinese food is EXPENSIVE compare to those apanama food. Well, some even complained drinking water should be free !!
Chinese cuisine is not like the apanama food which can be readily prepared earlier. Chinese cuisine requires "wok hai" (鑊氣) which is the "essense" imparted by the wok when cooking over very high heat. The preparation is a very time-consuming business. Wake up very early to go to wet market to buy the fresh ingredients (especially seafood) and business hour is normally from 11am to 10pm. The only rest time is between 3-5pm in the afternoon..
He is only few years younger than me. Life is tough, hope he makes it in other places..
Food business nowadays are very competitive . Fook Mun came to SS18 a little late as many establish ones are already there. Give too, many Chinese are non beef eaters.Sometimes those shops with low attendance customers should do some promotion like lunch/dinner packages.
