ATM machines removed from petrol stations.

The ATM machines in two of the petrol stations I frequent have been removed.

The only reason I can think of is cost cutting.

With ATM in retail stations, safety is the primary concern for oil company .... but ATM is a must to stay competitive..

If the reason is cost-cutting, then it is the cost-cutting measure from the bank.

Possible. The banks will certainly have data of the least used ATM machines. These ones will be the first to be yanked out.

Although many transactions have gone cashless, cash is still needed for many more.

Basically the problem started when individual banks were no longer able to place their ATMs at their choice of petrol stations. It was all replaced with MEPS ATM where there is a service charge of RM1.00 for every transaction and quite a lot people stop using it. Probably the petrol stations have to bear the electricity and data line charges with some commission in return, so no customers using the MEPS ATM no commission.

Not forgetting the 6% GST (6 sen) on the RM1.00 MEPS fee. People may be reluctant to pay, but driving to the nearest bank will still cost money and time.

For me, its been a massive benefit I've an account with a bank that's nearest to me. 300meters from home. Easy, avoiding MEPS interbank charges incurred as I only use at the same bank ATM. Other transactions are online but incur IBG and GST charges.

It is really funny when I see my bank account statement shown GST charge of 3 cents on each cheque that I issued out.

The ink used to print the description of the charge and the value of of the GST charge is certainly cost more than 3 cents. ..

Hahahaha, that ink can print a few thousands statements and at the end of the day, it's cheap.

Due to the insecurity and lack of privacy of using the ATM at other than the bank locations, the IPD Subang Jaya/ USJ 8 Balai Polis have been identified for the installation of several banks ATM there. They are located in an outbuilding on the far right corner as you drive through the gate. You may think it is safest there but where they are sited, it is not only dark but also out of view of the police guards stationed in the booth at the entrance. The last time I was there three months ago, the machines have yet to be installed. And I understand it has been at least a year since they first started work and nothing much has progressed.

Nowadays, it is so damn blardy convenient to access to some basic banking services like withdrawal, deposit and transfer via the ATM.

Branches of banks are everywhere including foreign banks... and ATM are more than toilets in shopping malls and petrol stations. Just pay around 50 cents to 1 or 2 ringgit to get things done instead of driving there and looking for car park, worse risk being run over by vehicle while walking to the nearest bank...

Of course, if your account is with some apanama banks like bank pertanian, bank rakyat etc, then this is different cerita...

ATM must be a profit center. High patronage means lesser Q at the bank counters plus income generation for shared ATMs.

BUT why are the banks reducing the ATM number?
    1. It cost more $$ to let it remains where it was due to low usage...OR
    2. The dark conspiracy side. SO ponder this: With your apanama pendatang Acheh dep peeem already fired a salvo to ALL the banks that each ATM machine, nationwide, must engage a security guard* 24/7....apa lagi???

*Footnote: he sudah tahu as the toal # of ATM per 100,000 adults from '13-'14 had dropped , 54 to 51units...so it could be fewer & fewer machines hence no need for 1,500,000 Banglade$hi guard$...PANIK!!!!

Anyone know how much to supply and install ATM machine cost? I was told its like 6 figures. I once had a look inside a 1980's Philips ATM machine under repair. Hellava complicated machine.

This is based on a make believe scenario. Any resemblance to a living or dead Malaise bank is purely coincidental.

So, a decade ago...not more than rm40,000 sale& installation. Which was then at a dark side of possible mega kickback$ involved too.
