I just checked the costs to cover a distance of 21.2 km and from A to B and compare the cost between Taxi & Uber here in Perth & elsewhere.

From A to B....Distant of 21.2km and about 24 minutes drive in normal traffic.

    Taxi costs AUD$47.50

    Uber X (4 passengers) costs AUD$32.44

    Uber XL (6 passengers-SUVs, Minivan, ...) costs between AUD$55 to AUD$73

Uber Black ( Luxury Service) costs between AUD$73 to AUD$95

    xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx Others xxxxxxxxxxxxx

In London, Uber XL costs 35 but driving time is about 1 hour.

From Hong Kong to Kowloon & using the underground tunnel using Uber Black costs around HKD$250...Driving time about 35 minutes

    How much in KL?

According to Grab Car Apps, that distance of 21.2km is like taking Grab car from Subang Parade to the KTM station in Batu Caves a distance of 20.4 km. It's fare for the basic (Perodua MyVi /Toyota Vios/Honda City) is RM33. It is RM 54 for a MPV or 6 seater and RM 63 for its luxury car. Uber fare is RM 26 for Uber-X and RM 44 for its XL class. For its Luxury car, it is RM68.

In Malaysia very cheap compared to your locations.

I have done my home work. I use Grab car apps and key in Subang Parade as pick up point and KTM Batu Caves as drop off point and Grab calculates the distance as 20.4km.

I am looking at the comparison cost as if I went to those overseas destination and paying through my nose converting my shringgit to the local currency. Of course if I was working there and is paid the local currency, the story would be different then.

Confirmed PCyeoh is Korek where he Grab the car at that price for that distance based on Waze route. Uber is even cheaper...unless the road is jammed packed.

Whatever it is, just pay the amount of the fare displayed on the driver apps where the fare on your apps is based on estimate which could be more or less.

Once my rider was caught in massive jam in Spain, the amount was 20 x of the estimate. The ride to the airport should be about 30 minutes but ended 3 hours later. She did not missed her flight but was an expensive loving affair trip to see her boyfriend pilot.

Her ride to the KLIA airport took about 1.15 hour where I waze around with my secret route recipe from KL center city at 5pm despite the massive jams in the highways ( the week before the CNY ). Most had probably missed thier flights as they would be stuck for 2 to 3 hours.

It pays not to use highways during peak hours and rainy days as you cannot waze your way out with alternative route if there is any peanut jam

Awarded my first 500 Five Stars ratings by my riders where many enjoyed my cooking stories or driving skills in about 5 months of waze around Klang Valley, some appreciated where I driven them to airports and one Malay chap in particular thankful where I drove him to Port Dickson from KL Sentral past midnight. Most of all, I appreciated those who left their marking comments in the feedback. Some said in two words from Best Driver to Thanks Abang while others left about 100 letters.

1 Slingapore lady driver in between 2 passengers in Grabshare or crappy service story. http://mothership.sg/2017/03/grabsha...e-off-instead/.

She earned my respect........ ( Uber or Grabcar is a platform for drivers and passengers where mutual respect is expected. And Uber has the rating mode done by both riders and drivers. And mean olde chef has had banned two riders for thier disgusting attitude. )

Just read the above link from post #130

    1. From my personal experience, local and abroad, it's a standard practice (although not a must-do obligation) for taxi driver to help the passengers in loading and unloading the luggage.

    2. This Grabshare lady driver is not fit as a cab driver. Although the pasengerrs are being bossy (thinking it is entirely the driver's job to put their luggage into the boot), but her decision to leave the luggage on the roadside and drove off is completely unacceptable.

There is no such thing that the fee is only for the ride excluding of helping to carry the luggage in the boot !! She is lucky that she met with two young fellas who did not play hardball ...

I guess some people who want to earn extra bucks but their ego is too big to swallow the shits that might come along with the job....

I took a GrabCar ride yesterday from Taman Petaling Utama to USJ 4. The car is a Proton Persona.

Using the NPE, covering a distance of about 11 kms, the fare was RM16. I gave the guy RM20.

From my up close and personal experiences since decades back about luggage - It has had been observed that western culture as seen from my American bosses that they prefer to carry and handle thier own baggage even from the long flights. I was trying to help my local immediate boss but was forewarned that he and other bosses would appreciated that I carry thier baggage unless being asked.or thier hands are full. My boss then was in my hometown alighting with his two hands full and a sling bag contained his suits and pants of 5 days supply. I was just carrying a bottle of duty free cognac and a box of Marlboro which was the buah tangan.

And just weeks ago, I taxied Hongkies lady who had no air about trying to help me to load her own smaller luggage into the car after arriving at the airport. She is easily over 70 years old and worth a billion as she owned a mainland mountain among other diversify businesses in Hong Kong and landed properties at Desa Parkcity.

I sokong with the Grab lady like many in the link comments though I have my reservations about driving away without the rider baggage...........For me when I faced with nasty and disrespectful riders......I would told them upfront " I am just a Uber driver with shiok shiok driving attitude and I am cancelling thier ride because it is my right to drive deserving passengers to thier designation safe and sound. That is why I usually locked my doors before accepting any passengers in the city. Why should I prostitute myself with nasty drunk riders in my car? If the employee of Uber has the rights to resist the Uber executive grabbing her tits in the sexual harassment http://www.independent.co.uk/news/bu...-a7603541.html

There were 3 riders I nearly kicked them out in my history .....(1) one that refused to wear safety belt when askeed (2) other that wanted to finish his two ice cream in my car and (3) one asked me to go into no entry lane just to save a few bucks.

And for the record, i believe I have gone beyond my duty where I have parked in no parking zone to help a couple of blind riders to the elevator at USJ train station and waited for ladies to board train safely at night or for them to open and locked thier house doors before zooming away. Once I even waited about 10 minutes to wait for her family to arrive as they were out shopping because she left the keys at her office.
