    https://www.bloomberg.com/news/artic...t-half-of-2016

" In the first quarter of this year, Uber lost about $520 million before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization. In the second quarter the losses significantly exceeded $750 million, including a roughly $100 million shortfall in the U.S. That means Uber's losses in the first half of 2016 totaled at least $1.27 billion."

" Uber's losses and revenue have generally grown in lockstep as the company's global ambitions have expanded. Uber has lost money quarter after quarter. In 2015, Uber lost at least $2 billion before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization. Uber, which is seven years old, has lost at least $4 billion in the history of the company. "

Although my math is quite poor, I still can visualize what is USD4 BILLIONS in accumulated losses mean..
For a company with valuation of USD 68B, losing money in the 2016 with 1B is chicken feed for a dot.com company in my cooking book over the dot.gone era 2000 where the dogs just got cooked as hot dogs in Nasdaq like pet.com to AOL.com.

They have almost monopoly of 85% of the ride sharing market share. They may be losing monies but they are growing. The losses comes in subsidy for the drivers and riders especially in China. Uber has 8 billion of cash reserves.........All these according to the commentary in the video provided above by Speeg.

Despite the burnout cash, the video guy sounded optimistic about UBER. I dun mind to put my money with my foot is on the gas pedal to invest in UBER once it goes public in NYSE or QQQ. ( Caveat Emptor : These views are IMHO and invest at your own risk )

The other dark side or back side of UBER is they are ruthless in driving out competitions from taxis to other similar startup riding sharing apps. And they are backed by team of experienced lobbyists to mobilizes public support for the service. Maybe they also lobby hard enough for Ah JIb to encourage MY rakyat to grab a car with Rm4,000 discount from Proton to drive UBER.

The Good Side of the UBER

I can drive anytime I want

I can stop driving anytime I want.

I can rest anytime and how long I want

I can have a short or long break I want.

I can work overtime if I want.

I can cancel my trip if I want.

( Last year, I got run around like a mad doggie after my mother in law passed on in KL hospital. Got to arrange her body to balik kampung and etc. The real nightmare was I got to cook for 120 pax corporate party at the Clubhouse the next day. Think about the preparation, cooking and dishes.......to getting back to Balik Kampung to pay respect in the funeral rites. All 1 leg kick up the storm by Mean Olde Chef all by himself with 13 ovens and 8 burners fired up. I even had to serve personally a special menu where it seated by Japanese HOU executives where buffet spreads of 25 dishes were offered to the rest as in the contracted menu. It was a hell of experience as I had hardly any sleep for days. Luckily I had a relative who drove me back to Kampung in his BMW the following day after the dinner. )

Now with UBER features where it could be a heaven sent to employees with time of thier lives to work as they please and for a Ex boss turned KULI driver like me , it is a blessing in disguise for me to drive than to rent space to Cari Makan or Masak Makan. Most of all, I can cancel the UBER trip on any emergency and get a replacement driver within minutes on the apps. If I Masak, ......how to stop and tell the hungry souls ?

As I have said " Apa U Mau Lagi? Belum Cuba, Belum Tahu, Sudah Cuba, Hari Harimau........or Ubermau.

I read Uber doesn't even have a vehicle.

How did it lost so much money?

Uber lost their battle to the local player in the biggest market in the world - China. They exited from China in August 2016. What is the meaning of 85% market share when the market is without China ??

    I don't know..

I would think the losses are caused by business overheads as this tech company is clearly playing the “grow first, make money later”, typical Silicon Valley style.

It should be no surprise the company’s costs have increased as its operations expand into new cities all over the world. Driver subsidies, promotion and all the tech infrastructure are elements of cost too, in my opinion.

Yes I noticed you bold smiley faced.

Still in the view with thrill that it is chicken feed and MCD dollar menu for its net worth and ownership by major stakeholders from Google Venture, Baidu and Toyota. However, being a private company, not much of the info can be sourced out.....where the other funds comes from or goes........

It was being tweeted by birdies......MY GLC also have shares and stakes in Uber Malaysia.

For a company with low overhead and operating costings, it is hard to imagine how this company which makes 20% of its drivers is not a mean money machine. The subsidies, incentives or promotional activities would be recouped in matter of time. Take for instance.....driver with RM3000 fare, Uber takes the cut of RM300. This is sufficient to pay the subsidy of RM300 given to the driver in just 1 month and if they remain in Uber, all these drivers would become cash cows with plenty of fresh milk. And they only a pay nominal sums to advertise in the facebook. Yet to see any other media like the Sun , Star or TV3. And they only have 1 office to maintain to service all drivers throughout Malaysia.

This is like a telco or internet service provider model and these companies would definitely operate with higher expenses than UBER with fibre optic and offices maintenance throughout the states, coast to coast.

The 85% of market share is in US market ( in the video link ) ....and of course if it has 85% of China then, it would be pudding on the pie.

The only worry is if there is another outsatnding startup apps company which can grab drivers and riders from UBER if they are not aggressive and mean enough in driving strategic games or marketing, then Uber may ended like Yahoo or MSN where new boy on the block - Google just became Giant Killer. Uber would become Uapa?

Last but not least, this is just my cooking stories from yours truly......Mean Olde Chef who is trying to Zing Zang Zoom.

Belum Cuba, Belum Tahu, Sudah Cuba, Hari Harimau........or Ubermau.

Just back after pickup 4 ladies for a 30 minutes ride from Starhill Gallery. . Amazing but true, they are paying me instead I am paying them for company where they were seated up close and personal while we were chatting , joking and listening to cool music.

When I was back, my wifey just asked " How's your driving day? Have a lot of PYT?" I dunno if she is reading usj.com.my or because she smell traces of Parfum Poison, Contradiction, Guess EDP, Obssession from those fancy ladies from Starhill.

Dunno whether or when she will cook my UBERmau driving career.

Driving satisfaction of the days where I got the honor to drive a Malay family home with thier merchandise were loaded in my trunk. The partially blind woman and her brother (also blind) together with the children were selling merchandise to Cari Makan till 2.30am. The man was asking " Wah....Pandu sampai lewat malam. "Tak susah kah? I was shy to tell them I just drove for a couple of hours. Instead, I sang to his tune with " Apa boleh buat? Cari makan mah. Siang Malam tak apa, Asal Cari Makan Cari Rezeki tanpa curi curi atau tipu tipu. Tanik Spring to them for inspiring me and happy to see their young teenagers with great personality helping them happily.

And giving a lift to a young American Malay Malaysian gutsy 5.1 footer lady who back packed to Nepal, flew to Bangkok and took a bus to Penang and took another bus to KL Sentral and stay at Chinatown BB hotel. Offered to take her 25 kilo baggage from the trunk but she took it while I was parking my car. The only help she asked ensure she got up to the second floor BB hotel to ensure her safety. This is because she encountered some crack head addicts on the 1st floor stairways two weeks back when she was staying at the joint. She said she left home ,,,,,and would be back to New York in 3 months. It shocked me that I asked her if she was running from her parents that i would be calling 999 here and 911 there. Apparently, she ran with her parents blessings. I would have had offered to stay at my pigeon hole, but she was so nippy and fast to check into the hotel despite sitting 30 hours on her butts with just forty winks. She said she didnt sleep on the Penang Bus cos if she doze off, she might be awaken in either Melaka or Singapore. Apparently sitting on the car seat for 10 hours in 1 of my trial marathon UBER already pain in the ass for me. This lady beat me by Kilo and Metres.

Therefore, I made up my mind to sit for 12 hours Hari Harimau driving around to Cari Makan and would not complain about my sore butts.

Just back after a marathon ride of almost 12 hours which is my personal best of lifetime to date. Never have I been driving and sitting on my bum that long. I could have lasted longerlike Eveready bunny battery but my two phones batteries dried up all the juices with a power bank. The last ride was done without any record at all.

What doesnt kill me makes me stronger than ever ......but a different case with the phones. When the juices are sucked dried , habis cerita Uberman..

Sejarah Hari Ini was driving in KL city in the rainy peanut jam and cruzing through the nightspot of city where ladies and ladies-like ply thier trade.

Uber driving in "The Good, Bad and Ugly".

After some good driving experiences , here are the compilation of bad and ugly.

There are a number of riders who ordered rides and then cancel the rides. Some are fined are RM 5 after 5 minutes and many are not just fined but get blacklisted with deactivation. Twice I was asked to collect from the rider with RM5 surcharge. One didnt pay and the other paid RM10 instead of RM13.80 because that's all he had in his wallet. I reported the sum collected.......which I think their account be deactivated.

Bad One dude pimp my ride and eat ice cream in my car. He is not a kiddie but a Nigerian student of Unitar. Told him off and would not drive until he finished his ice cream. Told him to take other ride if he wanna another ice cream in his plastic bag. When he reach his drop out designation at Unitar....he paid 60% of his fare.

Ugly Another one was a white dude from Downunder who sounded racist and used profanity when he ranged me to pick him up at another location of pickup. Asked him the address of location instead of just Raja Chulan, he said are you a stupid xxxx Malaysian and XXXX ? Told him if he used another profanity word, I am gonna to cook him menu of Malaysian oily lemak and American hot dog to stuff his drunken state. He hunged up and cancelled his ride which cost him Rm5. I waited for another 10 minutes but he did not call for UBER afterwhich. If he were to call, I would the driver as I should be the closest driver in the vicinity to meet him in person. He probably Grabcar or grab another cab to bully.

But there are many Goods than Bad and Ugly. Just completed about 100 rides with 71 five stars rating out of 80 who rated me. ( 9 must have rated 1 because of my Mean to Drive well behaved riders with no hanky panky biz from point A to point B. And most of the riders said Thank you for the ride before I could draw Terima Kasih for riding with me. Berbudi Bahasa where I rated the riders with 5 stars rating accordingly

In fact, one socialite lady even invited me for a dinner date at Pavilion diatas rumah after a comfy UBER ride.

Necessity is the mother of all invention.

I get to know that people in the Hamper business are using this Uber to get delivery assistance. They will use the apps to recruit their first recruit. If the driver is interested to earn extra income, the Hamper guy will then deal directly with the driver thus bypassing Uber. By doing so, the driver now gets to pocket 100% of the face.

The Uber app will be used to determine how much the driver will get. With this alternative use of this apps the Hamper people have solved their problem of delivery. In fact they can do simultaneous delivery. While on the way to deliver the Hamper, the driver can still pick up anyone else who requested for the Uber service.

What ever happens in Pavilion, stays in Pavilion.

iSayman, I got to drive to Cari Makan....so kenot cari PomPuan. Sumore, what if my wifey were to see usj.com.my accidentally? It might be Potong Saga story.....

Anyway, she is some lady who has the heart for cancer patients.....in fact she was driven to some red hot light district in Imbi to see her friend with stage 4 in the Middle of the night though her close friend was reluctant to see her.

She got interested in me .....not my bald head and body......but being busy body as I have experience in oncology and associated with Dato DR Suseela Nair to jump started Breast Self Exam back in the 80's. She was with some cancer survivor society. And probably the gesture to ensure she gets to her friend place safely by eyeing her before I leave. I may be a mean olde chef .....but I always make sure women gets into the door before I leave even in the guarded and gated community as Uberman.

The Teh Tarik gesture is probably to thank me and also wanted to share our common interest which include invitation my wifey who is with the Pantai Kiwanis club as the Chairlady. So read my lips.......no hanky panky. It is a bersih invitation.
