1 man is pretty hopping mad about UBER.

After just graduating from the college, his son decided to be a cabbie to ferry passengers in USJ. Easy to Cari Makan and dun have to take nonsense from employer, and works whenever he wants. The father dosent mind if his son works in my Hell Kitchen but strongly feels that driving cab is all craps for young fellas with a degree. He was shocked when I told him that I may be driving instead cooking where I turn coat from Mean Olde Chef to be a smooth driving driver.

And he is more hooping mad because he is not getting his meals of impression from Double Agent Chef where he thinks my talents got wasted in the the trash can.

You read from this thread that even 70+ years old is working as uber driver, this is not right to me. Not to discredit senior folks of this age but I think people of this age is not the right people to be a cab driver.

I have no problem with any cab service as long as it is a legally registered entity, the driver possess the right driving attitude and is a legitimate cab driver ...
There maybe 1 or 2 that is over 70 and I suppose still healthy & kicking but then +99% are younger.

Surely you can not apply to all.

Uber drivers in HK, London, Perth are young fellows

Got one over 60 in Sydney. But this guy is fit like ox. He drove me back in his BMW from KL to IPOH, Next day, he rushed back for Bersih Event and stayed overnight sleeping on the street.

Have been driven by over 70 taxi driver.......oops 70 years old in MY street. But I think those over 60 are subjected to be approved with a medical certification of fitness in MY road. As long as MC or medical chit, semua OK.

If this 84 years old or older can act in action packed movie, he can be a cab driver as long as he wants.

My first Uber driving experience comes with Lady Luck. And she sat beside me instead of at the backseat. Instead of being a cabbie . she is like a date for me to drive to city sight seeing while asking why I Uber and we ended up chatting our life stories. The fare was RM12.00 but she gave RM20.00. Though I said no tipping......She insisted on tipping....being having a ride in my HRV or perhaps I was such a pleasant driver. Next it blinked on my Uber app ....it was a gentleman and a pleasant one too. Along the way, my tyre punctured. Told him to hitch another ride but he said never mind and even help me with the jack. It turned up that this guy was in the F&B and we were cooking stories from our experiences in overseas. That was it...... I was driving and cooking stories in 1 hour ride of midnite driving where it is jam free.

For those who wanna to give up cooking and drive for fun, you can PM or follow my stories in FB. Or you can become like me by clicking online

Here's a good tip - for those time and gas to spare.... Who knows you be meeting some hottie PYT who will be seating beside you for sight seeing in the city.

Yes, this is the right mindset....

Instead of complaining and mourning non-stop about living costs, positive-minded people will try to alleviate the impact of higher living costs by doing somethng especially when one has the free time to do something...

Some people just like to complain , complain and complain but refuse to get out from their comforrt zone...

First time I had a Uber ride, the ride costs $6.50 for 2.5 mile. The driver asked if I could manage with 3 luggage travelling by subway, she said she's going to San Francisco too, $11.30 by BART vs $76 by Uber! She usually earn some extra income before heading to work in downtown San Francisco, must be good money if she could give someone a ride to/from SF daily!
So far, the drivers we met in CA are all part-timer earning extra $.

The saga continues with same pattern of passenger. 1st in was a single PYT - younger and sexier. sitting beside Mean Olde Chef......oops ...Mean Cool Transporter like Jason Statham. Somehow, she asked almost identical question why I dun cook and why not teach to cook? Why Uber? The she ranted about MY taxi driver of thier pick and choose attitude. Uber is like God's sent parcel where the service of well presented drivers in gleaming clean car. And where got taxi HRV presentation.

And the next following is one interesting guy from Indonesia where stories were exchanged about MY and Indo political policies. He is a Chinese and here because of threats of public riot threats in the couple of days. True or not he did not want to relive the days back in 1990's where racial riots resulted in ugly incidents. He was sleeping in the airport for two days while awaiting for his traveling documents.

End of the story .....it was a good start to a great ending in my first Siang Malam driving and cooking stories experience.

Today is a special day as 80% of the rides are free!!! Majority of them kiddies got couponsto ride free when I started to drive around in Sunway Pyramid. I ended up driving to Cyberjaya who is a movie maker wannabe from Indonesia before I call it a day. Olde Mean Chef lasted longer than my phone battery which went kaput. If I keep on driving .....it would be free because I cannot process any fares at all without the app. Somehow, I be lost without the waze.

Uber in London is a lot cheaper by about 40% as compared to London Taxi fares. Drivers are mainly from Africa, India, Pakistan.

Uber in Perth is cheaper than Taxi by 10%.

But Uber in Hong Kong is a lot more expensive. First, Uber vehicles here are larger, more comfortable & more expensive.

I just remembered having had one from HK to airport & the fare was HK650/= for 5 persons. For the 5, if you take the 2 taxis (need 2 cos' of luggages) to express train station and then take the train, it should be about HK$510/=

Last night, we went from HK to Tsim Sha Tsui for dinner & we ordered Uber.

Going over was by a Toyota Istima, a very comfortable one, including the Tunnel Toll, it cost HK$240/=. Taxi is about HK$150/=

Coming back to HK, we also used Uber, cost was HK$260/= because it is more luxury.

Here is a photo of that Uber just before going inside.

You can see the Uber driver, he must be less than 30 years old

In the events of untoward incident caused by uber in foreign countries, is your life insurance and accident insurance provide the coverage ??

Fom my experience of the reliability and quality of local taxi in Japan, I doubt uber or other similar service can survive in Japan. Recently, i asked the hotel to book a taxi at 6.30am to catch an early airport train. The journey from hotel to the train station is less than 20min. It only cost 1500 (RM60). If I use subway train, the cost is 600 ( 200 x3 persons) but it is a hassle to travel by subway with big luggages. It is good to get a cab when there are 2-3 persons for short journey ..

During my last trip in London, I also hired a cab via the hoteln from Kensington to St. Pancras international station, quite a distance which took about 30min. Somehow I just don't trust those people who are not a driver from a legitimate taxi company in a foreign country. .

Of course, all are covered by insurance.
