Here we go again. Water disruption 23rd October

WATER SUPPLY INTERRUPTION DUE TO ODOUR POLLUTION. SOURCE SUSPECTED FROM NILAI, NEGERI SEMBILAN

Several areas in the districts of Petaling, Hulu Langat, Kuala Langat and Sepang are currently experiencing temporary water interruption following the shutdown of the Sg. Semenyih water treatment plant due to odour pollution in the river at 7:30am on 23 October 2016.

The source of odour pollution in the river is confirmed to be from Nilai, Negeri Sembilan. Odour from upstream waterways at Nilai is found to have strong unusual odour flowing into Sungai Buah which leads to the Semenyih Intake Point. Dead fish have also been sighted around the area.

Two (2) teams of Air Selangor and the Selangor Water Management Board (LUAS) river surveillance teams have deployed this morning to narrow down the contributor to the odour. This afternoon, the main team has been joined by SPAN Central office. As of 1600H the odour at Nilai is still evident and all efforts are still ongoing to pinpoint the contributing source. The information has also been conveyed to DOE Negeri Sembilan through DOE Selangor and LUAS.

The key areas including surrounding areas which currently experiencing water interruption are as follows:

• Hulu Langat District: Bangi, Bandar Bukit Mahkota, Kajang, Semenyih and Rinching.
• Kuala Langat District: Morib, Banting, Bandar Saujana Putra, Bandar Rimbayu and Telok Panglima Garang.
• Petaling District: USJ 1- 27, Puchong, Seri Kembangan and Serdang.
• Sepang District: Putrajaya, Cyberjaya, Bandar Nusa Putra, Putra Heights, Pulau Meranti, Kota Warisan, Bandar Bukit Puchong and Sg. Merab

Relief water supply are being delivered by tankers to affected areas and critical premises, such as hospital and dialysis centres.

Consumers can get latest updates and details of affected areas via "mySYABAS" smart phone application and www.syabas.com.my.

We consumers don't want to hear all this cerita cerita. What is Syabas doing all this while? And what is the Selangor government doing? Please come up with an action plan inclusive of strict law on water matters to curb this pollution issues. We know how to complain about the annual haze from our neighbouring country. Our papers would report pages and pages about how haze came about and how damaging it is. Are we going to do the same thing about water pollution.The buck has to stop somewhere and it should rightly stop at the table of the Menteri Besar.

My take is to start a new thread each time new incident happens. Otherwise it's confusing.
The MB should be held accountable and stop the blame game. Offenders should be dealt with severely. This water scare is now a nightmare. Pointless to give excuses each it happens.

We have heard more than enough of finger pointing and all this consequences squarely goes down to Enforcement , Zero enforcement to be exact , to the rules laid down . Are we have a sleeping enforcer here....??

It is obvious the contamination of rivers is a deliberate attempt to discredit the powers that be of Sirlanngor. Having said that, come on, surely more can be done. Allowing this nonsense to continue unabated is ridiculous and they are going to lose some votes come GE14! Do something for God's sake!

When something of this sort happen, there's involvement of many departments, state AND federal, sometimes seen as overlapping and thereon confusion who's responsibility or take the ultimate lead in addressing the issue. Now its the blame, point fingers and confusion game...from MB to some politician, to parties and factions. Then the media will blow everything up and incur rakyat's wrath. I suppose Malaysia loves to thrive on such sensation. Malaysia is somewhat an overregulated country but yet when a big problem occur..this is what happen, state of chaotic damage control (as impressed on by the main stream media that loves to report and sensationalize such news). End of the day, WE common people ARE FARKED AND SCREWED! and the TV station will conveniently broadcast to the whole country of consumers in tears and crying out loud they have to walk up 5 flights of stairs everyday after receiving water ration from water tanker. It imply and put some authorities in bad light.

This is the idea. The Sirlanngor authorities had better "fight" back to earn the voters' trust. I have a feeling GE14 will be in 2017.

I would consider her to be senior enough to announce some policies and action plans that will not only nib the issue in the bud but also to ensure such problem will not become a habit to haunt us again and again. But no, she dares to come up with a ready standard press release again and again to tell us the same old sad story. We are looking forward to her to tell us something we do not know. Since Syabas comes under the Selangor government, the MB should step in and says Enough is enough. If you can't manage a local government, how are you going to convince me you can manage to run the country.

Similarly, our defence and security is telling us stories about the Eastern Sabah Security Command or ESSCOM and how our territories are invaded by mere pirates so regularly. They are not even armed terrorists.

In both cases, we want to see something solid that are being done to ensure us our live are safe. Don't let a couple of people to fall dead before waking up to do something.

Yes, the Sirlanngor gomen has to "fight" back or at least be seen to do so. The situation is getting dangerously close to voters getting really pissed and that is not good for them in the next GE which, of course, is the idea of the saboteurs. Yes SYABAS IS state gomen owned BUT, when there's disaster like water pollution, SYABAS is likely limited and answerable from Water treatment to consumer affairs BUT its their duty and responsibility to investigate the source of pollution and liaise with other FEDERAL departments (which is obviously BN ruled) to solve the matter and bring about justice. But then, this isn't the case impressed on the rakyat who have no blinking idea whats going on or how its handled. Then come all the tit for tat and blame game. AGAIN, in the end, WE ARE FARKED by any reason of delay, confusion, whatever events and reports that follow suit. Politicians also in the fray making comments relevant or irrelevant or even stupid and ludicrous..then again another round of 8pm prime time news of consumers crying their eyes out on water disruption woes.

If this water problem is the result of 'politics' between the 2 camps, then I have this to add.

These 2 camps are putting the lives of 1.6 millions (?) or more consumers to risks.

BN Selangor chief Noh Omar has challenged Selangor Menteri Besar Azmin Ali to lodge a police report if the latter has proof BN had sabotaged the state's water supply.
