He is born in Singapore, a third generation Singaporean.

Father is a Eurasian who also born in Singapore, mother is a Malaysian Chinese.

The swimmer has nothing to do with Ipoh, let alone Malaysia..

Either The Star Paper was blurred sotong to print as such in the link where it happened to splash with the headline " Perak school boy smashed meet records" ..or I am mislead into believing he was not Ipoh Mali school boy to enter into the pool tank. Or was it a different Jo or not from the same school?

" Perak schoolboy Joseph Schooling smashed meet records en route to winning the 50m butterfly and 100m backstroke in the Group 4 category, taking his tally to four.

Schooling again erased the meet records set in 2000 belonging to Daniel Bego of Sarawak in both events.

He won the 50m butterfly in 31.48, bettering Daniel's time of 32.49. Schooling finished 0.04 seconds inside Daniel's previous mark of 1:14.89.

Schooling had also set two new meet records in the 200m individual medley and 100m butterfly on Friday.

BTW, I know of many kiddies who own 2 different passports due to different parents nationalities and etc of endless possibilities.

I was born in Malaysia . Her mum was second generation from Malaysia.

My dotter is a swimmer who could outswim two years her seniors where she could elect to swim for MY home or US place if she qualified since she holding a Malaysian passport and at the same time automatic US citizen now. ....

Her senior swimming partner whose dad is a professional diver has gone back to Japan with her mother and probably full swimming lesson and facilities. Right now my dotter is not competing because lack of MY support of water facilities.......unless if I jet plane her back to USA pool.

But what is her chances of striking Gold? Not 1 in a million. But 1 in 300 million in US and 1 in 30 million in MY home. 1 in 7.5 B chance of winning Olympic gold.

This is interesting and something new to me. Can you help to elaborate more on your daughter (a US citizen) and at the same time she also carries a Malaysian passport... ?

What I know is --- if someone who is first a Malaysian citizen and then voluntarily acquires a new nationality, they automatically lose Malaysian citizenship. This loss of citizenship is automatic by operation of law. Since you already lost Malaysian citizenship, you cannot use your Malaysian passport anymore.

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Joseph_Schooling

" Joseph Schooling is a third-generation Singaporean, and is of Eurasian ethnicity. He is the only child of May and Colin Schooling. May is a Chinese Malaysian and a Singapore permanent resident who previously represented the Malaysian state of Perak in tennis while Colin, a businessman, was born in Singapore and educated at Raffles Institution who is a hurdler and a water polo player who represented Singapore in softball. Colin Schooling's grandfather was a British military officer who married a local Portuguese-Eurasian in Singapore. Joseph Schooling was also born and raised in Singapore. Schooling received his primary education at Anglo-Chinese School (Junior) in Singapore and left to complete his education in the US after his second year of secondary school at Anglo-Chinese School."

Perhaps he was over here for a holiday or a visit and decided to join in the competition. It could simply have been a mistake of the headlines, calling him a Perak schoolboy...

From the words of his maternal Malaysian aunt... " As a child, Schooling would take trips down to Ipoh on long breaks with his parents. But even on holiday, he never missed a swim. He would swim at the Ipoh Royal Gold Club, the family's pool and at Ipoh City Council swimming complex. He loved swimming when he was a child. He basically lived in the pool,"

Every1 wanna to claim credits for Schooling success in Olympic golden quest ......

Singapore where it provided the hospital with maternity ward to deliver Baby Jo by Singaporean Daddy

Malaysia where it gave youngster to swim from bottom to the tops at the start with Ipoh Mali Mummy.

Philippines where meals from breakfast to lunch, sometimes dinner and supper were cooked by Pinay Maid.

United States where extensive swimming training and massive Mac D value meals were served by MacDonald.

I think it is the natural instinct for some people to bash their own country, irrespective of where...

When a Singapore swimmer won the 1st Olympic gold, some losers here bashed the Malaysian gomen of losing this talented swimmer just because he had took part in swimming competitions in Ipoh during his childhood holidays.. !!

Over to the small red dot.. some losers there are damn worried of the influx of foreign talents (FTS). For sure they will capitalize on any opportunity to magnify the "failure" of their government to help the locals and the "over-emphasis" of their government in bringing in foreign talents...

Many of MY fans bashed her for flashing ringgit sign with hand gestures after her 1st silver victory but I stood up for her ......which I posted as such " This is MY girl gesture after winning the silver in Olympics synchronized diving. She deserve it where not only her but her dad who works as a labourer and spent much time for taking her to training, Most of all, she earns it." https://www.facebook.com/groups/4342...1054604425875/

And just posted it this afternoon after a bird tweeted to me " Thank you but no Terima Kasih from the Bronze medalist to MB Terganggu in this recycling reply. Imagine how politicians would try to gain political publicity ......with their thick rhino face.......
    https://www.facebook.com/groups/Gene...7449784712687/

And even for Jo Schooling ....who have had sacrificed time, money and effort to ensure the golden opportunity to earn GOLD? IMHO there is only Daddy Cool , Mummy Dearest and the Kiddie passion. This is main material truth unless and perhaps it is the China where kiddies were sent to the academy boarding schools and never to be seen again except Chinese New Year and other special occasions. Some says Russia too. others said Japan too in some sporting games.

Just wondering how much did my Gomen spend on MY Astronaut or Cosmonought Sheikh Muszaphar Shukor where it doesn't win any Gold , Silver or Bronze medals while the Bronze Olympic winner was left all home alone with his basikal where oil rich dun bother to give a liter of PETRONAS gasor lubricant ?

Those were the days where kulitfication was taken into account before you were selected for a position in football or hockey....either in the game or outside the game as coaching. probably that is the downhill for our balls after Soh Chin Aun, Arumugam and Mothar Dahari era.

But now....even PETRONAS also no view Melayu unless you have cables to be connected as Dacing saudara saudari to be given any free lunches or free rides or donation in sporting events
