Forced installation of Win 10

That was what started it all. A HELL (Dell). But mine was a desktop. I swapped out the HDD and it was fine on Win7 and it tried that update..then Kaboom!!!! SxxT happends.

That was what started it all.

In my case, I had to eventually replace the motherboard on my desktop to get the Win 7 OS to finally boot up - the update required a bios security setting which was unavailable with my old motherboard. Since I couldn't boot up the OS to roll back the update, it became a chicken and egg situation.

So no choice, had to buy another motherboard which was hopefully compatible with the update. However because the license/identity information was registered on the previous motherboard and not the replacement one, the OS flagged the original installation as illegal on the replacement board. Yikes, another hair pulling session......

Lesson learnt - don't allow MS to automatically update non-critical stuff, whichever OS you are on.

Do you know that HELL pc's ATX PSU is not industrial standard? The colors of the wire may look the same but the individual ratings are different. I almost blew my HELL pc if I had not checked before stuffing in one.

It is not unusual to find non standard parts in branded equipment. Big brands want to protect their own spare parts market, and also need to make sure a replacement part is within their technical specifications tolerance. If they allowed third party replacement parts openly, it's only a matter of time before someone starts substituting inferior parts (at low prices) and cause problems which could be blamed on `Hell'.....

I think if one wants to have the freedom to choose what parts go into the pc, better not to buy a branded unit. Go DIY lah.

I won't complain too much if they use a different connector or size..but having it totally identical including the color of the wire..that's call booby trapping the unsuspecting.
Did that DIY way in the past, Looks like it will be the same in the near future.

KOed my "Start" button, slowed the PC down to a bloody crawl and have to RESET (reinstall Windows 10) BEFORE everything runs again at full speed.

Basically, if anything stupid happened, JUST DO A RECOVERY RESET - then it works great. It needs a new clean install of Windows and all the applications.

How to do that? The "Free upgrade" do not include a Disk / installation Key.

Go to SETTINGS .... UPDATE & SECURITY .... RECOVERY ... and then ... RESET this PC ... you will lose all applications but not the files/documents.

I would have thought that just going back to a previous system restore point should do the job for you. Doing a re-installation or a refresh which wipes all your applications sounds rather drastic.

Since 26th May, I have done about 5 re-installations. That HELL pc seems to be the most fickle PC I have encountered.

The WIN7 that worked is put aside as I am not satisfied WIN 10 refuse to load at all. Since Friday evening, I had a SSD hooked up and a fresh installation of Win7. After the first found of updates, Microsoft tried to upgrade to Win 10. AND 3 attempts to install, which failed, this morning, it reverted back to Win 7 with 256 updated to install What is wrong with Microsoft.

Strange that you had so much problems ... I just did ONE RECOVERY reinstallation (as outlined in previous post) and it has been running very well and smoother than previous Windows 8.

My PC is a "generic" custom spec unit. I hand-picked my own components and got a technician to fit it all up. Nothing proprietary, all standard boxed sets.

I am still wondering what really happen..HELL PC is now number 2 in the world. Should Microsoft not support them or is that done on purpose so that users need to buy a new PC or pay HELL for support to get the pc working in Win 10?

I gave up buying branded PCs long time ago. More pain than gain esp for personal use. If company PCs or servers, why not ... but not for home !!
