    Hope they extend the time. Any news of extension? Of will they wait until last minute to announce? To get the best of this run. With extension, the fees should come down if the demand is not so hot as not squeezed into a corner? More time to find a good quote.

    I think the bulk of the fee comes from engineering consultancy fee. The IR who inked his signature on the drawings is legally responsible for the structural integrity and safety of the building. This commitment comes with a fee...

    For renovation without the need of engineer's input, this can be very cheap or even free. Draftman is not a regulated profession, you can draft your own renovation drawing as long as the council think it is just a minor renovation or extension.

    My opposite neighbour did quite an extensive renovation by extending both ground floor and upper floor all the way to the edge of the backlane. She told me she paid to the draftsman RM 4,500 which is inclusive of engineering service but EXCLUDES the RM500 flat rate fine and the variable processing fees.

    Note that engineering services are only needed if you do renovation to the upper floor. If it involves ground floor only, you don't have to engage them. The draftmen will find you a architect to sign off your plan. I understand it cost between RM2,000 to RM 3,000 to legalise your renovation. The above EXCLUDES the RM500 fine and another RM300-800 processing fees which is dependant on how extensive your renovation.

    As at today, the amnesty does not cover those who extend an additional whole floor to the existing structure. Example 1.5 to 2 or 2 to 2.5. There were appeals that the amnesty should cover them as well and it is duly being considered. Hopefully, MPSJ will make an announcement soon.

    I support you based on case by case. Sometime MPSJ does not think for the ratepayer until they discover why aren't people taking up their so called fantastic offer or things are not happening the way they want it to be. It is only after feedback by ratepayers or pressure group will they listen to us. Here we must thank the pressure group who are working closely with the authority that we are getting the concession in term of reduced cost or the ease of doing things. But I would not support those who are building their castles in the air. I think MPSJ should not extend this concession to these people who extended upwards. They were too blatant and should be penalised. If MPSJ really go by the books, these people would be fined easily RM15K onwards depending on the extent of their renovations. If extension is deemed unsafe, should even demolish it.

    Agree that it is a bloody mess, who was in charge of planning and approvals and the subsequent follow up and enforcement?

    MPSJ extends deadline to legalise renovations till 31st August 2017

    SUBANG Jaya Municipal Council (MPSJ) is extending the grace period for another six months for houseowners to submit building plans if they have illegally extended or renovated their homes in Subang Jaya.

    It was announced at the council’s monthly fullboard meeting yesterday that the grace period was supposed to end in February 2017 but the council is now extending it because of public request.

    This means those who have not submitted renovation plans to the council are exempted from the penalty, which is 10 times the processing fee.

    Property owners will still have to pay the plan processing fee, which ranges from RM100 to RM1,000 depending on the extension, and compound arrears.

    It is an important piece of paper, just like the title/grant of the property.

    Well, the underlying reason for the extension after extension is obvious - who want to piss off voters during this time ????
