It seems that the rising cost has affected more people than I thought.
I happen to see people "selective on their spending" and at places which I FEEL (my humble and personal view) could be avoided or to save money for better use.
Places are those selling fast food and die die must eat food places. Imagine how much per head is spent at 1 sitting? And to see these restaurants packed with people?
Cook often at home, its much cheaper than eating out.
Don't buy new car next few years.. repair existing car if anything.
Don't simply balik kampung for slightest reason. Outstation trip and travelling have just been increased in cost..
Just noticed my big pack of Lipton tea leaves at Spmart99 from 8.60 to 10.30, 19.8% increase in price. Imported goods mah! HAPPY MALAYSIA!
(Kick their asses if Boh tea increase in price..but didn't monitor it.. BOH is 100% LOCAL from leaf to packaging! Lipton is Ceylon tea if not mistaken, not grown here and its better taste)
The trouble is, when prices go up, it won't go down, even if our Shringgit appreciate by a third..mark my words. They can have price controls anywhere, yet your economy priced meal outside will still rise and rise incrementally.
Although it's locally made but if everything else goes up, they have to increase the profit margin.
In the past, if the profit margin is RM 1 per pack, now you need RM 2 profit to buy the same thing due to inflation. So you don't just look at costs.
The staff also need a salary increase because everything has gone up. Their RM 2000 salary can't buy the things now that they could buy in the past.
It's a domino effect caused by two main causes i.e. the GST and the weakening Ringgit.
Toll rate hike, public transport rate hike, electricity rate hike, food hike in the same year are effects of the two causes above.

The Sing dollar is now RM 3.10.Many people are dumping the Ringgit.

Another article on spending cuts by average Malaysian. It seems that more and more people are affected
Quote:"I try not to pay for drinks of any sort, to be honest. And I try to eat out less.”
ME and maybe someone else doing the same thing . I've said the same thing many times in the past. I would NOT order drinks, but surely pay for it if I happen to order one, even then its AIR SUAM!..plain water is best for me...period!
Was it someone else who keep a bottle of water in the car and drink later on? Good habit too!
If anyone ask me, ALL drinks are OVERPRICED in restaurants..PERIOD!.. but fortunately a couple of economy food places I goto...they NEVER charge me for plain water..FREE! Not once...everytime!
Yes, drinks are overpriced.
I usually keep 3 small bottles of boiled water in reusable container inside my car to drink after the meal.
Sometimes I bring along my own teabags and just order a chinese teapot of plain water if they charge cheaply. Otherwise, a teapot with the shop's tea costs RM 4 for one person.
If only a lot of people practice more prudence and wisdom as above which may help in prices going down, if its the only way possible. But it won't happen, people aren't flinching to change some ways and business people aren't going to budge on price reduction unless they're forced to do so. That's the situation here. As long as there's high demand due to obvious reasons, willing seller, willing buyer. I won't budge on my practice, eventhough knowing it won't help in price reduction. Ultimately I know, air suam is BEST for me and my own health. Restaurants and vendors ain't paying for medical bills..
