I think in HK, they eat Dim Sum every morning because it's cheap and delicious.

I am not sure what's the price difference between HK and Shenzhen nowadays. Anybody been to these two places recently?

The same with food in Thailand, it's cheap and delicious.

I could agree it could be delicious and better than here, since the food is native to time. But on price..I don't think is cheap by Malaysian desire. Last time I went Hatyai, it wasn't cheap anymore, except some places. Was like KL prices more or less. I was expecting 2thirds at best. I wasn't too happy at some prices which I suspect they charge differently for tourists, and mind you the little eateries I visited were small stalls and common Thai working folk having breakfast or evening meal there. All my friends complained eating out at HK is blardi expensive, even mineral water. Wanton mee is something like HKD27.. ouch ouch ouch!!!!! I think I'll never visit HK..better off those cities back door of HK. Can't even bring in a pack of ciggies (latest tourist policy). You've to buy there..(LET'S NOT elaborate on ciggies..orang sini geram/MARAH!/CHAR you!!)

I am not sure about Hatyai but when I went to ChiangMai last year, most of the eateries were selling at only 30 to 40 baht for one plate of fried rice. Maybe you went to the wrong places.

No lah..not wrong places..I somehow guessed right Hatyai is no more cheaper than here since its rapid development and higher quality infrastructure since 2-3 decades ago. So many shopping complexes equal the ones we have here. I went to those very small shops, no air con, plastic tables, simple stools place, how could I be wrong..3-4 places like this and not where tourists frequent at city central. Noticed one Thai malay selling teh tarik at Lee Garden complex for more than what it cost here in Klang Valley..tourist place mar...and its only a push cart on the sidewalk. I dunno about Chiangmai..haven't been there.
Anyhow, newspapers already forecasted the Shringgit is expected to decline futher. GET READY TO PAY MORE next year..tomorrow onwards...HAPPEEEE NEWWW YEAR to ALLL...and ensure you earn more to keep up. I really have to the way things are heading. I'm already helping to babysit my grandson in due course to save their babysitting fees as it can be quite an burdensome expenditure and BOTH have to work very hard to support their family now. I was told post delivery care for mother is super expensive here and save cost by going back to hometown to HALF the cost seen here. HALF or less! Same services.
LASTLY!..I DO NOT AND NEVER WILL believe that high income salary idea.. I only foresee high income = high COL and high expenditure..= ZERO..

I used to go to Ipoh often but not of late. It was a percentage cheaper than KL. Also depends what and where you eat. Nasi Kandar cost less than here about RM1-2 difference?
I guess their operating cost and rentals are lower than KL. Property prices there not like KL...much lower there. All these factors possibly contribute to lower prices by a slight margin.
Whatever it is, Ipoh, like another other cheaper places are not immune to goods and essential price hikes. You may save a lil bit on eating out but not other consumer or essential goods with imported content.

I find most Ipoh flers are happy campers there, property bought cheap(some live quite well too..can play expensive hifi too), far less distractions than KL to drain your pocket.

People still go to these type of restaurants?

Quote: two glasses of iced milo at RM8.40, a glass of iced green tea at RM2.80 and RM6.40 for two glasses of iced 'teh O limau'.

I normally skip the drinks or just order water, it is healthier for you and save money for the next meal. I only allow my kids to order fruit juice or water.

Yes, prices have gone up even in Thailand but not as much as here. BS has it right, it is our Shringgit that is costing us more. I was in Chiangmai & Bangkok recently, and found things to be much more expensive

I'm cocksure this will be reality for most wage earners and ALL THOSE who still keep up their lifestyle and monthly expenditure like nothing happened. They (including I) have to think of more ways to save and save and save.. there's NO 2 ways about it. This place is not going anywhere and don't live with delusion its going to be better...Its NOT!..despite some who can blare out this and that.
Milo ICE price at coffee shop?......LOL! Cannot make at home ah?
