The Chinese people in the late 1800 and early 1900 migrated in a large scale to South East Asia due to the prolonged civil war, great hunger and social unrest in China. Those who did well sold their belongings to escape to other countries to start a new life, those who are poor came here to work as coolie. They did not emigrate to another country because they were the "neither-here-nor-there" who can't make it in their homeland. They didn't came here so that they can brag to their countrymen that they have migrated to a more advance country...

Btw, a few questions since you brought out the topic of forefathers..

    - Do you know exactly where your forefathers came from - which province and which village ??
    - Have you visited your forefathers hometown in China ??
    - Do you know any of their descendants there who are still alive and do you keep in touch with them ??
    - Can you communicate with them in their local dialect ??

Lastly, just curious ... Can you recognize which ones are your ancestor tombstones and the names on the tombstones when you pay a visit to the place where they were buried ???

I promised myself that this will be my last post for this week. No, I am a banana and cannot read the names on the tombstones. I have traced my side of relatives and wife's side, visiting relatives in both villages for more than once. In 1989, I invested in an apartment in Buji to help our relatives migrate from other provinces into Shenzhen, as Buji was rezoned as part of Shenzhen. My dad established one of the Victoria Hakka Association in Springvale, Melbourne, my second brother is the current president there. I have gone on trips that trace even beyond our current villages in Southern China. As you know, southern China was the third wave of migrations by the Hakka people. Our members are from the Vietnamese, Malaysian and China migrants to Australia. We established good relationships with the mayors of Meizhou. Not sure if I answered your questions but not really sure of your motives. This year, I am organizing a last call trip in Oct to 3 families of my clan in Malaysia to visit the home village and visit the tombstones. Probably will be the last. Most have visited but this round we hope some if third generations of them Malaysians will be able to go. Most of my nephews, nieces are already in UK, Canada, Australia and they are doctors, engineers and half are in Malaysia.
In Australia, we will have a strong link back to China via the association. As for Malaysia, I have a strong links back to my secondary schools. There is a strong whatapps group going on.
I still work and can tell you it is for the money and not ashamed of that. If I lose my job tomorrow, I may drive Uber. Will I die if I lose my job? I had a few investment properties in Malaysia and Australia that I can sell off, or I can sell my house and move into an apartment. Or withdraw my Epf. But I am not ready to do that today. Tomorrow, who knows? My ideal retirement is to spend most of my time in the garden but still do some part time organization work in Malaysia and Australia. Will come back to Malaysia to eat and visits. I see lots of friends in Australia who becomes more and more detached from Malaysia just like we became detached from China.
There were a lot going for Malaysia, where is your tipping point is important. Migrating is not forever either. We never know. I had 2 staff went to Shanghai to work. My previous Malaysian boss has been in Shanghai for last 15 years! And he plans to retire in a Sydney. So where you get a job, your family ties, your children education and future will determine your path. Your evaluation of your current and future situation in Malaysia will also heavily influence your decisions. If you find a pot of gold here, You may not want to migrate. Maybe then you have other reasons to migrate. As an analogy, I have a ticket to a fun fair i.e. Malaysia but end of the day, I don't want to sleep in the fun fair, I want to go home to a safe and warm house.

I reached the state of "financially independent" before the age of 35. After that, whatever I do is merely for retirement planning. Everything that one needs for retirement and for the kid's future have been ready. I don't need to worry of them.

My parents are above 80 years old and healthy. I want to be around here when they are around. I'm not looking for "warm house" elsewhere. Here is my warm house, for the time being, maybe it is not in future...

Dr Lee Eng Geap (李永業) completed his medical degree in Cambridge University. He pursued his surgical career in Oxford and urological training at Imperial College School of Medicine in London. He was educated in a Chinese primary school and his father sent him to a boarding school in UK at the age of 15 !! He came back to practise in Malaysia after 20 years working in UK.

I don't know the exact figures for experienced GP.

Fresh GP get around £40,000 per year. Consultants in England earn more than £100,000 a year.

Thats not alot for an experienced consultant GP. I know people who sell 'dreams and aspirations and things u dont need' earn more than that. Serious.

Exactly! I read that post, but feel nothing! I don't know why people so worked up!
Is like someone dig a hole, another person decided to take a look and drop inside, then started to blame others for his own doing, worse insulted and defamed Malaysian in the process!

Oh, you are a Malaysian too!
    Let's do a survey:

    1. Malaysians are just cheap labour for Singapore. Everyone is flogging there to work.
    Are you one of them?

    2. Graduate are paid shit here and you are proud of that , to continue to exploit.
Were you paid shit here? Or did you pay graduate shit?

    3. Cannot even have a decent living or walk outside without being robbed, raped and mat rempited.
Were you or your Malaysian family members such as your wife or children robbed , raped and mat rempited when walk outside?

    4. Those who so called rich are kiamsiap rich, you beat and torture your maids.
I am not sure if you are rich, if you are, did you beat and torture your maid ( if you have one), or are your Malaysian friends or family members who are rich and have maids beat and torture their maids?
If non of your family members or friends are rich and have maids, how many percent of rich Malaysian beat and torture maids? Appreciate if you could provide the link to support your statement.

    Look at this news,

    http://www.thesundaily.my/news/2017/...stralia-survey
One in five Australians have fallen prey to abusive behaviour,..

If you think it is sensible to put a sweeping statement, try put up a posting on Australian community website saying

Australians cannot even have a decent living because they fallen prey to abusive behavior?
Provide the link, I would like to see how the moderator respond.

I don’t like to waste time dealing with people like you, however as a Malaysian, I cannot support or justify insult and defamation of something untrue about Malaysians on a Malaysian community website that is open to the world.
