Not yet. It's a court ruling but not yet a legislation.

" Taiwan's top judges have ruled in favour of gay marriage, paving the way for it to become the first place in Asia to legalise same-sex unions."

" The court's ruling means Taiwan's parliament will have to amend existing laws or pass new legislation. But it's still unclear how far parliament will go."

the CONcept of marriage is a scam.
Did the 'accepted' First couple ever got 'wedded' in a church/playground/temple/giant phallic shaped stone/mosque/pyramid/under a tree/ next to a rock? Whta proof to prove my conjecture right or wrong?

So i dont see what is wrong with same sex marriage. In fact i am pretty ambivalent and won't lose sleep over it.

Methink the invasion of personal privacy is so prevalent & invasive that who i wanna play, fondle, kiss, lick, nibble, poke, finger, squeeze and be extremely intimate with behind closed doors also kena registered? That what i like to do is only permissible with a Paid for with a man issued license?

Powerful england mate.....My 2 cents worth: For me (and I believed for the greater of those who voted against it) it is not an issue of right or wrong but more the repercussions that comes with it once it get legislated as law. When it was voted into law in Australia, those conservative MPs tried to put in some exemptions and protection but failed.

The big issues includes protection to those who are against it eg. churches and religious organisation including marriage celebrants who refused to conduct vows on religious ground or personal conscience and certain commercial venues (eg. a religious baker who refuses to bake wedding cakes for ssm - cases are now in USA & UK courts, very interesting - google it), are now required to perform or serve by law.

For me the major concern is the changes and impact to education of sex in schools. SSM will be included to be part of the sex education for the young including those in primary schools. There has been issues of sex education in schools being promoted and hijacked by those with vested interest and links to undesirable (hard core sex) internet sites including "where to go" and "how to" for young children.

Sex education is an accepted norm in Australian public schools and the inclusion of materials will be driven by what the law permits. So ssm and LGBTI will be mainstream and like it or not communities and work places will have to recognise them as normal including basic issues of using which toilets (eg a transgender student will be permitted to dress according to their sexual preference and use the male / female toilet accordingly). We often joke there will be a need for more than just Male & Female toilets in future.

Socially, I supposed we will have to get used to the seeing guys kissing in public (yet to see one)........more TV shows depicting gay sex at earlier or normal hours (Australian TV channels like SBS does have these shows but only after certain hours later in the night.)

As an aside, I read recently school children as young as 13 yrs old are permitted to obtain contraceptives from doctors without the knowledge and consent of their parents in Victoria!

But don't get me wrong, I am not homophobic as I mix with them regularly. But like many Asian parents living in western societies, there is always the concern of our own children being "influenced" (we asians do not want to accept it is in the genes.......!!) into it. I believed one can be born as one or being influenced due to lifestyle or environment and there are ample evidence of people changing midstream for both getting in or getting out of it. Now off to playing badminton with some of my gays friends......Cheers.

My close friend/neighbour in Malacca phoned me to attend his son “wedding dinner”, last year.

He apologised to me that it was such an impromptu decision and it is not really organized like a wedding dinner, it is just a gathering of a few close friends together since his son just came back from Adelaide.

The 1st thing he said to me after I congratulated him is – " Thanks, I am really happy that he got married and he married a Austalian Chinese girl. Gosh, at least he did not married a man !! ”

He is a Catholic and maybe that explain his worry...

Why only now a public survey poll is conducted to kill this topic ?? I think those who want it to happen know this is the right time. I am not refering to aussie specifically, I am talking about how politicians do the "right things" for themselves.

About the 26 countries that officially recognized same sex marriage, my take is when a country is developed with less issue on poverty and other pressing social-economic problems, there will start to find ways to self-destruct. Look at those countries in Europe, you can see the problems they are facing now after being “liberal “on issues like gay marriage. One of the problems is low birth rate and inadequate manpower to sustain a healthy economy in term of spending demand and workforce, not to mention losing their political power to immigrants, slowly and eventually.

When we condemn those radicals from Afghanistan/Pakistan who sanction terirble things like honour-killing or something like that, I see no difference between them and those who think same sex marriage is acceptable and should be respected.

Yes, they are cleverer than the 38.4%.

So, the cleverer 61.6% win and a law to tyrannize the 38.4% is passed...

You and others who are in the 38.4% can either accept it or go to xxx !!

What I meant was OZ Pollies are not stupid.

This was a national referendum sometimes in Nov 2017 where every voter has to vote YES or NO.

The result is obvious and therefore OZ Parliament debated for days and passed into law by majority.

It needs smarter ones to know :

    1) should not provide a fertile soil for such poll because the timing of poll is important and the timing is decided by the politicians.

    2) it is not wise to elect those who want to see gay marriage to happen. You give them the power to incubate (1).

Again, I am not referring to aussie specifically, I am talking about politicians in general..

Pollies/voters irrespective or smart, dumb or dumber are just a tool for the politicians, and often majority of people are simpletons, just look at brexit or the US election.

p/s : Ever wonder why Taiwan never dare to call for a referendum to decide either YES or NO on the subject of unification with PRC !!
