Don't forget that person is not the Boss & what happens if these notes are fake, he will get the sack.

I have been living in Sydney for nearly 16 years this time round and I have never encountered any form of overt racism. They may have been disputes but nothing to do with race. I was told and have read on forums that they (local whites and those labelled racist) have no issues with Asians from countries like ASEAN but more to do with recent migrants and students from China. Frankly, with the massive increase in Chinese students, I do feel it is not entirely a good thing - while they bring economic benefits there are also many negative repercussions. Take Education for example - despite needing to attend and pass English test, their English language proficiency is still very poor. Yet these same students attend universities and eventually graduate then apply for PR to stay on. Many chinese parents send their kids overseas not only to get an education but seek residency as well.For sure we Malaysian also practice it but our numbers pale in comparison with mainland Chinese.
I personally come across many Chinese students who cannot converse well in English and that is after living in Sydney for many years. The crux of the matter is to with their inability or lack of opportunities to mix with local people. The Chinese come to Australia and basically eat, live and sleep together with their own kind. The only time they need to communicate in English is during classes, so how to improve. And yes, lecturer friends have told me they are being "told" not too be tough on marking.....
They have been a few reported cases in the news which are mostly targeted at mainland Chinese (there are also cases against Indians, African and even white Europeans) especially the new arrivals who are not familiar or refused to follow or blend in to local practices. Case in point are those that keep talking in Chinese when they are non Chinese people around them. Many still behave as if they are still living in China. They are those young ones who for some reason like to walk in the middle of main roads despite having pedestrian walkways on both sides. Can't figure it out as me and my wife have encountered this on separate occasions.
They have been many valid grouses by the locals.........eg. they (daigou) buy all the milk powder to sell back to China. And I do not mean a few tins, they buy the whole crate off the supermarket floor leaving local mothers with nothing! How do you feel seeing a chinaman wheeling out trolley load or whole pallet of something you need for your baby?
And many locals perceived the Chinese are the reason for the spiraling property prices.....and I do know of some who bring in cold hard cash to pay for properties. All of it maybe legitimate but the perception it creates leaves the locals feeling very negative. These are just some examples but it does go a long way creating negative impressions.
The rise of Trump politics is also another event that is flaming anti immigration particularly against Muslims and the concept to Big Australia. There is now a upswell of anti muslim sentiment and again many of those that subscribed to it are due to ISIS and the recent killings (eg.Curtis Cheng & Martin Place Siege - see below link) done by wayward Muslims.

I am not saying there are no racism, it can happen anywhere in any country. If it amounts to anything, Malaysia is probably worse than many as racism is widely and blatantly practiced, even sponsored by the government. Perhaps after so used to it, most Malaysian no longer feel or recognised it anymore.
So no need to start bashing Australia, god knows why that particular person keep doing it! One need to look at the mirror before branding others LCLY!!

I find it shocking and hard to believe they are people who whitewash and defend racist violence with all sort of petty excuses like buying milk powder, walk in the middle of the road or just because of poor command of English.. !! Perhaps one day when his loved ones become the victim of racist violence, It would be interesting to see how he reacts to it...
I guess after staying in a fxx#¿! place for too long, god knows how a particular person had completely become wTw ... even by looking at the mirror every hour, he still believe he is white in color....

I find it funny that the locals (including some of the pseudo locals who migrated there) have so much grouses and resentment about the mainland Chinese... right form how the Chinese cross the road to how they shop.
Why not just ban/restrict them from residing in sydney, bar them from investing in the property and business.. or tell them they are not welcomed to study in the local college/university, etc...
You want their money to help the local economy and after earning their money, you started to talk about their failure to assimilate into the local society be it cultural, behavioural or language. The worst part is not a word of condemnation of the racist remarks and racial violence committed by the locals... !!
Such condescending mindset speak volume about someone there..

Let me give you 2 examples:-
London:-
Gave a lady teller £50 note after purchasing some groceries in a supermarket. She held the note high towards the light to check & said " Haven't seen this for a long time."
Perth:-
Gave a $100 note to a hardware store & this is his response..."where the hell you get this f@#$#@ 100 note from?"
In both occasions, I just laughed to myself, that's how they talk.

What I wrote in post #48 was not my experience. I was thinking this can be the reason why it irked Jan.
An experienced and seasoned sales staff (irrespective of ordinary shop or high-end retail store) will know how to say/ask question to avoid misunderstanding.
As you know, I seldom carry cash notes and lazy to change to local currency unless it is really necessary. I shop by card whenever is possible from convenient store to subway ticketing machine... So far, no one asked questions about my currency notes ..

I tell you where I was recently 'honoured' by the angmo, of whom ALL are perfect strangers. The sweet senorita barkeep freely poured me many small glasses of the local brew. The old guy on my right shared his dinner with me (for a taste test). A solo, dandy gentleman on my left, finished his dinner & glass of Port and quietly paid for my dinner & drinks too! Another man approached the bar to enquire my status and proceeded to present me with a beautiful red color diary, with a title "my life begins today..." That super friendly place is in Porto... (and then there was this biker who went outta his way in Zaragoza but thats another story..)
2 months later, I hogged that red diary away to a toothless Mak Cik, water melon seller in Permaisuri. It was part payment, as I didnt have small notes and she didnt have change. I still owe her RM0.80... but that's yet another story in this little green patch of mine, here there and everywhere in this multiverse.

A number of corporate/professional/high places angmo ozzie friends (includin a handful of 'kenot let go-past xmsian' -tryin' hard to fit to be aussies) told me that there is only 1 Oz uni that somehow 'soar' above the rest. And their graduates are more often than not, be given preference and fill the one vacant position and 'won over' many same but diff Uni applicants with same discipline, same results, same same everything applied for that 1 post...
The only one where they dont advertise itself in bus back, not have twinning program and where nobel prize laureates will come & give free talks... That 1 & only is Melb Uni...true or not?...and yet it lost ut to so many Little Dotter's Uni

Actually, I don't have problem with universities in kangaroo land, just beh tahan someone (as described by my signature..) thinks so blardy great about little achievement.
Come on lah.. my nephew graduated with 1st class honour from imperial college london (ranked #9 in QS World ranking), he later got a Phd scholarship fron NUS Singapore (ranked #12), I also think nothing to shout lah. I warned this young man that his worth comes from his job... go get a serious job after completing your PhD, don't keep on study...

The cardiologist from a nearby cut-throat private hospital that always asked me this question during my yearly visit - " Wtf did you do to be able to keep your bp lower than 130/80 and how come your calcium score is zero in CT cardio angiogram ?? "... He is an alumni from Sydney U.
Maybe in my next visit, I ask him why he did not stay put there to earn millions in Aussie$$ as a renowned cardio consultant whereas any tom, dick and matt tried so hard to sneak in there..
