Many who have migrated still consider Malaysia their home country whether or not having given up the citizenship. But let's not pretend all is well in Malaysia. Only the blind and those in denial of facts and reality will claim otherwise and can only add to the worsening situation. Yes, for younger generations, they need to be globally competitive and pay their taxes elsewhere, not here.

For retiree, here is ok. Healthcare cost is not an issue if you planned early. Life is not about finding another country that pay your medical bills, this is for those who are neither here nor there...

There is nothing wrong with your views. But in the same vein you should also respect others who have decided to move elsewhere. Like in any endeavour they will bound to be some who choose to change their minds, failed or succeed for multitude of reasons eg family ties etc.and return back to Malaysia. It need not only be due to money or careers.

But I can safely say there are more who have decided to stay on than return given the state of happenings in Malaysia. As I have mentioned before, even the parents who send their kids overseas for studies are asking them to stay out if they can find the right turf. This is sad. I would imagine you may also do the same when that time comes for your kid.

I play badminton here with 2 different groups of people numbering well over 20 Malaysians, some are ex while some still keep their Malaysian citizenship. Most if not all have no intention of going back even in their old age. Socially I mixed with many others from Malaysia who also share the same views.

I just completed a 3600 km long lovely drive from Sydney/Melbourne/Adelaide/Sydney over a week. Met with old friends along the way who tells me there are many others from Malaysia living nearby them. Most have children in high schools to uni. Most have no plans of returning. Not after you lived outside long enough to compare the pros & cons on life outside compared to Malaysia.

Bottom line is this - we have no good reason to return back and unless there is a complete change of how the country is being govern. But the way many of us sees it, proper governance and fair justice is too far eroded. The system of education is not getting any better despite or because of the continuous changes to it. We are not disparaging Malaysia as a country rather the bad politics and the ingrained policies and practices has gone too rotten to see a real change will come. I am sure you will have to agree the sort of politicians that runs the country now leaves much to be desired.

And then there is the race and religion issue......

BTW, what's wrong being a uber driver, cleaner or whatever blue collar worker? We come into this world with nothing and goes the same way. For me it is more important one have lived a full and honest life rather than one that look down on others trying to earn an honest living.

Have some compassion and empathy. We don't need to be always confrontational to push one view across. At the end of the day, what do we gain out of it?

I say this while waiting for the inevitable whatapp message that will come bearing news of an old friend last breath as he lie in Sg Buluh Hospital.

I have made it very clear of my intent, I am only against those people as I described earlier, please do not generalize my intention and drag to other things. If you are not belong to people of such behavior, you don't need to reply to my post.

I am not comparing the two countries (malaysia vs the newly adopted country of someone). There is no comparison between this country with other developed countries that practise good governance.

I often hear people criticize this country when they are permanently somewhere else. They give an impression that everything in this country is not up to par in comparison with their new place. It is interesting to find out whether these people are doing better than many others who are doing fine here.

Don't know why, I just despise these people who possess such mentality. When these people are permanent somewhere, they criticize everything and anything about their previous identity/homeland like this is the only root cause of their failure without knowing they are others here who also have similar fate like them before but they have adapted, improvised and survived, and survive well

Tiny issues, you are right also. To me, at my age and what I look at my present and future retirement life, a lot of the issues that you mentioned in post #155 about Malaysia are tiny to me too. I think the age gap between most of us who post here are not much different so I would think we are all in the same boat somewhat. I would have thought this is a common factor that can bring more people to discuss topics of interest but instead many have opt not to post anymore or hardly.

But what is more of a concern is the slow slow decline of usj.com.my. I am sure you have noticed there are very limited postings (mostly yours!) and on certain days none. Unless you like to play Lone Ranger I doubt you enjoy posting and no one reply (or read) as it already happens on some threads. Playground to yourself aint a playground.

I would hope good sense prevail and not let this forum die of natural death. Will be a sad day. All of us can help to prevent this from happening if we can all be more courteous and tolerant to each other. Some empathy mate.

Jenny, with all respect to freedom of speech, what Mat said is his own opinion (which can be disputed and some may disagree with). In all discussions on the net, and even coffee shops, such statements will only make listeners (or readers) form an opinion of the person who made the statement. You may agree with him or disagree (and your reaction would be disgust, which was your rightful reaction). But do the coffee shop patrons go make a police report? Me, as a "policeman" cannot throw him into the banana plantation for declaring his opinion (without attacking a specific person).

Our rules in the forum are quite clear. We do not condone personal attacks. That is a call for a banana. But Mat did not refer his statement to you or to opulent. He was making an opinion (right or wrong). He did not attack you or any member of the forum.

I do not know who Mat is. I am not defending him. I am explaining the rules of engagement in the forum.

He may have over-generalised and that is his own undoing. Not very articulate. He probably proves opulant right whereby someone who chose to migrate may only have bad opinions of the country he came from. Ouch... Mat, you just shot yourself in public
