You see, it is people like you that killed the sharing. Every time someone shared something, you shoot them down with your condescending attitude. I did not share because of people like you. You are just looking for ammunition to have an argument. So to avoid that, I stopped posting so the forumers should blame you on missing out. On the contrary, my son has been offered a permanent job even 1 year before graduation in Australia. To have a top firm in Australia giving you a letter of offer 12 months before graduating,is something I am very proud of, but you will beg to differ with your agenda. Certainly you have IQ but no EQ.
It is the 'best of both worlds' and not neither here-or-there. You seems to think that I am driving Uber or something. A failure in your eyes. I am not driving Uber but why not? It is a great way to earn some money and enjoy conversations with a captured audience.
I got my degree from Australia university and many other qualifications so I don't think you are referring to me. Btw, I got my education free from a country that do not have a systematic and institutionized discriminatory against the Chinese. Thus one of the push factor.
I am not undermining Malaysians or ungrateful to Malaysia but there are many areas we must change and improve. If I do not care anymore, I will not even come back to Malaysia.
Also, why put people down, those who wants to migrate to seek a better life elsewhere. Like if you got really rich with money, you should live in a bungalow instead of an apartment. Get Jaga and maid to look after your property when on holidays. We are discussing if the grass is greener the other side and I say it is. We are not discussing why I am here in Malaysia or Australia. If you want to know, I am having the best of both worlds.
I beg to differ, I think Kwang has shown restraints and fairness, it is just darn hard to moderate a forum, so a 'thank you' would be nice. If this looks like, sound like ' brown nosing', it is not. Just paying gratitude when it is due. It does not mean that I will shut and roll over and die because he tells me to either. I am Malaysian too for the moment.
First, you said you son have "good degree" and all his friends wanted to emulate him.
I/we want to know where the "good degree" came from, in order for others to benefit from his university/degree by emulating him. I have posted the questions to you couple of times but you ignore and did not answer. That's fine, it is your choice to reply or not to reply.
Now, you tell the forum your son is so great gain (highlighted red above), you expect people to believe you ??
Mat, it is ok if your son came from a low-ranking university, nothing too shame about it. As long
as his possess the right attribute to excel further in life, life is a long marathon journey.
Don't worry, I will praise you (being successfully coach your kid) and your son (being as good as what you told the forum) but at this moment, what the forum here is only your side of story, you dare not even tell which university or what degree ?? What is so private about it ??
unless you just cock and bull which I hope you are not !!
It is good to know you got a degree from Australia and many other qualification.
Maybe I share with you what I got...
I came from a poor family, studied in a Chinese school until SPM in 1985. I got 8A in my SPM but I failed to get any scholarships {8A in SPM at that time is big deal}. My science teacher told me to apply UTM. At that time, UTM offered a direct 5 years engineering degree without the need to study form six.
I didn't have the luxury of choice from other universities at the age of 17. I wanted to secure a place in university soonest, I don't want to spend extra two years in form six. I decided to try my luck in UTM. I told myself, if the UTM degree is useless, I still can apply to become a teacher. I applied to study Petroleum Engineering and I got it. Btw, all my Chinese coursemates and uni mates possessed similar good SPM results.
Life is very funny, this decision proved to be the most significant decision I made in my life. In the 80s and 90s, IEM (Institution of Engineers Malaysia) still recognized the direct degree offered by UTM and because of this, the degree was also accepted in Commonwealth countries and UK. Also, Petronas was in a huge exercise to "malaysianize" their expat staff, so job opportunities were abundant.
I was offered the job of Junior Drilling Engineer one semester before graduation by Petronas Carigali, office is in Wisma Peladang (next to Lot 10) but I refuse to join them because I was still pissed I did not get a scholarship from them.
I applied Halliburton and Schlumberger and secured a job from one of them. (I believe you heard of these two companies before and should know what sort of pay scale they offer to field engineer working in hostile E&P environment). My first workplace is in Aberdeen, Scotland.
I don't blame and don't criticize things that I can't change.
Maybe I am lucky, life is good here
Obviously, you don't get the point and missed it by miles...
Jenny is saying in simple English that whoever find my comment (post#141) befitting is his own problem. If you are not the one, why so worked up ??
The Chinese people in the late 1800 and early 1900 migrated in a large scale to South East Asia due to the prolonged civil war, great hunger and social unrest in China. Those who did well sold their belongings to escape to other countries to start a new life, those who are poor came here to work as coolie. They did not emigrate to another country because they were the "neither-here-nor-there" who can't make it in their homeland. They didn't came here so that they can brag to their countrymen that they have migrated to a more advance country...
Btw, a few questions since you brought out the topic of forefathers..
- Do you know exactly where your forefathers came from - which province and which village ??
- Have you visited your forefathers hometown in China ??
- Do you know any of their descendants there who are still alive and do you keep in touch with them ??
- Can you communicate with them in their local dialect ??
Lastly, just curious ... Can you recognize which ones are your ancestor tombstones and the names on the tombstones when you pay a visit to the place where they were buried ???
Yes, I tried to convince myself you are telling the truth.. but I found a lot of contradictory points of what you said !!
I am sure you are here in Malaysia because there is a job for you. You have mentioned it few times in your previous posts. Good to know you can find a job here at your old age and this is a testimony that you still have value in the job market. But I doubt you can find a decent job in Australia, a job that can utilize your skills and working experience...
You see, this is the part that is perplexing- YOU HAVE TO COME BACK HERE TO EARN SOME MONEY (unless you tell me you work for fun, for hobby or for any other reasons but not for money !!) whereas you can't have a decent job in Australia but you are telling the forum that grass is greener there and you have the best of both worlds !!
Just find it hard to understand !!
.
Good for you. I know drilling engineers are one of the best paid. And the last few decades were the boom times for O & G. The good times are over for the next decade. Why did you not get a scholarship? Maybe your skin color is the wrong type? I agree we don't sit and do nothing.
Yes, my skin color and my name don't fit to be the chosen one. I was as depressed/mad/frustrated just like everyone who were discriminated. We all are the victims of the social injustice.
Yes, you don't need to believe me. You make your own judgement. I don't get a million dollar if I do convince you.
Your measure of success is not my measure of success. If I am to bs the forum, then they can ask others and make a judgement themselves.
My skills are relevant in Australia and I can get work there with my skills and experience. You just need to keep updating your skills. Don't assume if you don't know the market. The contractors market there is big. Only if you want a permanent job, that will be harder to find as most jobs have migrated to India, China and even Malaysia.
If I sit at home, I will be looking for fun in poking people in this forum. That cannot be a good thing. I think if this forum can be an active contributions by people from USJ and Subang Jaya with a spirit of true sharing , then that would be a nice objective. So what if I drive Uber or I come back to get a job? There are many other reasons why I am here. What had that got to do with me supporting that the grass is indeed greener the other side given all things in considerations? I think your posts in this forum is very damaging for this forum, and you keep changing your nicks to slip into this forum, much akin to your accusation of me trying to slip into Australia to get free medicals. You did not get the hint? You are not wanted in this forum. We don't just want to hear from you but we need to hear the other opinions. Not even sure why my financial status has got to do with it. So people with lower financial status, bs more? So your financial status having worked as a field engineer in drilling entitled you with special privileges and your posts and comments are more true. Stop analyzing and just buy a ticket to Australia and buy a property there and stay there before you whack others.
You started the whole thing.. and if you want to continue, it is fine for me.
Go read your earlier posts...
