    SUGGESTION: Member Intro ?

I've been hanging out in this forum for few months, seen some cool people with cool posts and comments (of course, there are some very "sakar-stick" or unique people around here). Therefore, I suggest site creates a separate forum called "Member Introduction", allowing new or active members to introduce themselves. Of course, we don't need to review our DOB, how many wifes we have, how much we make, etc, but maybe a brief intro on ur background, the reasons we are hanging out here, etc. I guess when we know each other better, get more aquaincted with one another, that will help create a more fun community site. Yeah, we might enjoy reading those complaints and trashing of crazy things/people/events, i think we need more fun...friendlier atmosphere!

    Just a suggestion...

Jeff & Co - What are your views about having a web-based chat so that if we happen to meet online, we can talk to each other? Thanks.

Or chat like as though it is ICQ but via the forum. Well, I don't own this place.

I think that a chat-based forum will definitely draw traffic. Getting replies instantly and a constant flow of discussion will make it a lot more exciting. Jeff's wife will not be happy if he spends any more time online than he already does.. hehehhehe
Insecurity is unattractive. Smile and the whole world smiles with you.

we can always experiement with it.

Just that, this forum engine may not be able to support an IRC-type of chat that cluster all chatters in one panel.

Let's see if El Ho has time to explore on this. We need to find something that syncs well with our Open Source config because nothing that we use at the back-end is Microsoft.

We also need the class monitor as, Debbie is right, my wife will strangle me if I spent too long on the chat room.

    Red face Introduction

    RE my previous posts....

I brought up the issue of using "real" names at our e_community,
    to be more informal..nn such....

A lot of people were against it..Therefore, it wud be quite difficult
to interact wz the other in our Forum if we are still using "handles". Say we decide to meet at WengSoonJaya..
I have to go forward and ask..are u "sky"..if the real sky is the one, no prob..but imagine another person..he will say...
"no..I do not belong to the "sky", i live on the ground!

    2 sens..

Satish - I disagree Handles are interesting. Apart from Jeff and a few others who use their real names or a combination of their surnames and initials, the rest prefer to live in mystery. It is a lot more fun chatting to Angelina Jolie or Brad Piit or Idiot Luke than Wong Siew Siew or Siew Siew Wong. Let's give the chat some thought. We can all chip in to help if it is needed. Anyway, you do not want to know my real name. It is Harry Potter.

Good for you. You obviously have less skeletons in the cupboards than I have. I cannot afford to have 15 loan shark agencies, 4 banks, 56 friends whom I owed money to and my long lost uncle to know where I am!

I don't think chat room is a good idea, unless u have a moderator moderating the chat room. Bcos you don't want to repeat what FM988 is doing http://www.usj.com.my/bulletin/uploa...&threadid=3709

I was just suggesting a place where members can intro themselves (if they choose to), tell us about yourself. How much u want to review urself is entirely up to u! That way, we can get acquianted with one another (for those who want to be acquainted! )

Just start a forum in this community called "Member Intro", that will do the work. Don't waste time integrating a chat room into this site, bcos this is not a common practice anymore, especially now we have all kinds of Instant Messaging services like MSN, Yahoo.....which are much much cool and fun!

My idea on a chat forum is so that it can be answered whenever someone gets online. This is so that people can come at their most convienient time to chat albeit the response is not instant. I agree MSN, AOL, YM, etc. are good for instant chat and we do not need to re-invent the wheel. As for revealing our real names, I am Snoopy a.k.a. JoeCool.

In a way, what I am suggesting is already what is happening here. Quite a fair bit of chatting in the forums here going on anyway.

A chat room or forum is good because people are usually not that comfortable in the beginning to get into a person-to-person MSN, Yahoo and ICQ. A common chat room would be good for a group of people meeting online to throw ideas around and become friends. I don't know - maybe I am getting old and out of touch (at least that was what my daughters said), I feel that MSN etc is 'personal', in that I know the person really well already. But then I may be wrong and need re-education in that!
