Not even a word of "thank you". Btw, those are not even the daily garbage collector.
Thats why I often have serious doubts about some flers behavior and audacity that may shock the giver. How can these bastards demand or insist!.. Ang Pow is a small festive gift, not something to question, insist or despise if the amount may seem little. When people give out of kindness, accept it with appreciation, thats all. I hate it when I see kids (Yes, I've seen some) open it immediately and you can see face change if the amount wasn't to their expectation. I blame the parents of kids who behave like this. Ang Pow isn't some money making scheme or a business transaction.

Maybe CCF should give them an AP like this: This isn't meant to be cruel..its to teach them a blardi lesson.

Well, nothing to be sad about... you give them RM20 and "semuanya dalam satu ang pow - kongsi kongsi..." or give them 6 packets x RM3-4 it will come to the same... as for being rude, these are garbage men lah... they are trained Ritz-Carlton Hotel Management graduates.... just give and on the fan, on the music and take a post-breakfast nap lah... no need to curse and swear on a auspicious day....

Same mentality to some subsidy-dependent folks in this country...

You give them br1m of 500 let say, you can never reduce the amount. Any reduction would be regarded as robbing "their money"..

    No need lah..

Why waste time with garbage-minded men !!

Give them one angpow. If they are happy, good. If they think it is "not enough" or "not fair", then let them continue with this feeling...

Truthfully, I've personally experienced this with these flers when I was residing in PJ Section something.
They would come by, smiling all the way to your gate every year with everything written on the face that they're expecting something. My mom would give them a packet or two, thats all...but then as time went by, audacity set in and I could tell that they expect something every year..This was in the mid 80's. Its not something new.

That sounded like a horrid experience.

Haven't seen this. God of prosperity? In supermarkets, yes... but you say ...house? You mean young children dressed as god of prosperity?

I think still got lah.. at shopping complexes or shops, troupes going around as a "service provider" for good wishes for prosperity, in return for an "ang pow".

As for angpow amount, Give what you think is appropriate..or not at all, no harm done..no?

As for the garbage flers.. NOPE!.. I think they're foreign labor..no need to give.

For relative, a bit more is fine

And I thought our "homeless generation" have to face a thinning salary packet with imminent increase in house rental rates, couple of hundred EVERY MONTH onwards when new contract is renewed. I thought this is most worrying.

Meagre bonus (if any) or salary increment negated in a flash.

I think jacksonlim is talking about incremental costs when bringing a kid to this world. In my opinion, a parent’s responsibilities end after providing the necessary education to equip the kid in this challenging world. Getting an accommodation should be the responsibility of the kid in future when he is independent.

A lot of things depend on planning. I share with you a real story...

Many years ago (I think 8-9 years) when I was in my former company, I was invited to a farewell dinner for a young staff. She is a promising staff in her late 20s. She decided to follow her husband who was posted to Indonesia by a MNC tobacco company. At that time, it crossed my mind that this may not be a good idea for her to resign and follow her husband. Reason is her husband is also young and I think it is an interim posting probably 3-5 years, she should stick with the company.

I bumped into her last year November in a school when I fetched my kid. She has two lovely sons but she did not look that cheerful as she normally is. A short chat with her revealed that she is now a full-time housewife in Malaysia as her husband has been repatriate back to KL. When they were in Indonesia, they enjoyed full expatriate terms. The eldest kid was enrolled into an international school in Jakarta fully paid by company. I guess this is where the problem began – the kid has to continue with international school with own money when they came back. The problem is compounded when the youngest kid reaches schooling age. You just can’t give different education to different kid !! It is quite a heavy burden although this is just lower primary level, it is around 50-60k per year for two kids . The money will increases every year for higher grade and is 50-60k per kid at secondary level.

Education is a big expenses. Really have to plan it well from the 1st day. International school is a one way ticket, all the way to tertiary level. No chance to change lane to public school and public university, and very slim chance to get scholarships..
